Me and my friend had a big discussion on this. I say no, He says yes. I wanna get SRK's opinion as to why or why not and if you have any stories to backup your claim. I'll put up my reason later cause I'm at work at the moment =/

It would suck to end up hating one of your friends. Some of my friends would suck to live with.

I'd say no. Roomed with one guy I barely knew (talked to him a couple times since he was on my floor my freshman year) and it ended up being fucking horrible. Guy was dirty as hell, never cleaned anything in the apartment, and was really fucking creepy.

you're friend with somebody doesn't necessarily mean you will get along with them. i would still have to say probability of getting along with somebody you know is greater than with a stranger, but everything is a toss up.

Obviously if you know someone, then you can make a pretty sound judgment on whether or not you would want to live with that person. Thus, you can avoid living with someone who would just annoy you. If it's someone you don't know, then you're just taking a shot in the dark and I really don't like that idea. Some friends of mine have asked me to room with them and other people that I didn't know and I've always declined. I think it would be pretty bad to end up coming back to your apartment every day and seeing someone you can't stand.

Don't be so naive. For a guy having a female roommate sounds sooo fucking cool, but once you live with one much less one you don't know, you'll see they're just regular people with good and bad habits. Trust me.

Best advice right here. All of you thinking that shit is cake? Hardly. When you move in with a female, you start knowing who they really are. And it usually ends up with you picking out the negatives that end up overshadowing the positives.

Very no.

It seems like a nice idea from a networking point of view, but you quickly forget all that once you find he/she doesn't flush the toilet or they walk around naked, or you find out about some other equally nasty ass thing.

I don't think it matters if you know the person, just as long as whomever you room with is trusted not to be a bitch- that should be your top priority.

Whether that person is a friend or not, if you think he/she will be a lousy RM, then don't do it. Don't let any social obligations or other stuff get in your way either, it is not worth the risk of having a bad room mate.

In my next semester at college i'm going to have a new room mate and i don't care if i know the guy or not, just as long as whomever it is, he isn't an inconsiderate jerkass. All i care about.

Yes and No.

Yes,because you always want to explore you options and meet new people, because meeting new people could lead to you doing thing's that you would have never imagined.

No Because the mystery of the unknown can be voided if you roommate turns out to be a nasty stank muhfucka.

When I go to College,I'm kind of hoping that my roommate is White,Spanish,or Asian(Especially this because I can get DAT math homework help).I want to experience different cultures.

When I start Uni, I hope I can afford to stay by myself.

If I absolutely must have a roommate, I'm running all types of checks and asking a lot of questions.

#1 policy - Stay the fuck outta my room.
#2 policy - Don't touch my computer.
#3 policy - If you bring a broad over, share, or don't get mad when I'm hitting it for myself eventually.

#3 is a big fat crock of shit. You probably wouldn't want to follow that "policy" if it was imposed on you and would be like whatever if they said don't get mad cause they're hitting it. Just go get your own pussy and don't expect your potential roommate to do all the work then be expected to share. You might as well go w/option one and find your own place.

Best reply in thread.

I've lived with some really good guy friends, other girls, my girlfriend, and I've lived on my own. Nothing compares to living by your lonesome.

Living on your own is tops and there's no one to get mad at except yourself when things go bad.

Fact is, all the people that I've lived with I've had issues with. Personally, I felt they were all a problem but it really could've been me too that was too hard to live with. If you don't want to be bitter enemies with a best friend, I suggest either stranger or living by yourself. Many a good friends have I lost because you just can't get over how bad the living relationship was.

I lived with two female roommates and it wasn't like Three's company at all.

First of all, they were dirty... I mean diiiirty. It was like a frat house exploded in the apartment. Beer cans, pizza boxes half eaten food and condoms in the sink. Fucking disgusting.
One bitch didn't even know we owned a vacuum cleaner.

Eventually I got sick of cleaning up after the whores and moved out. So much for my belief of the stereotype that girls are cleaner than guys. HAH!

I've told the story of both the females I lived with before on here. One was pretty cool and wasn't dirty but she'd have mad friends over at all times of day and night into the morning. The other would drink and smoke anyone under the table, was cool to chill with but was DIRTY as fuck. I've never seen a bitch with such a disastrous room as her.

This girl had a bar up in that bitch that she got from the Salvation Army or something, clothes EVERYWHERE dirty and supposedly clean, beer cans and liquor bottles everywhere, pizza boxes, just straight up random shit all over the place.

friends are always better if your on the same wave-length. Me and my room mate are both really laid back and hard to anger so we mesh really well, this was my main goal in looking for a roomy. My best friend lives with two girls and I'm always at his pad, but they have never had problems. It's reallly all a matter of expectations and being open with communications.

...Most girls don't mess around with male roommates, unless there's some kind of instant attraction which there rarely is..besides you gotta live with this chick. Sex is a quick way to make the shit awkward...cause are you gonna have a relationship or what? And sometimes you wanna go somewhere and be alone..maybe wax the pole a little bit cause she's not doing it right..But she's always there! Around every corner! Get pissed at her, you can't throw her out, hell you'll be the one storming out, getting halfway down the block and realizing you just ran out ON YOU OWN PLACE!

Guy roommates..shit's a little easier to resolve..you know the lack of sexual tension and all...

But yeah live with people you know and can trust. People you don't know is always a big gamble. At least if it's a friend you won't feel too bad about having to sock them in the nuts/boobies when the shit goes down.

Rod Driguez
01-02-2008, 06:24 PM
I would say no, simply because it's just way too easy for a stranger to steal from you without regard. Granted that acquaintances (and even friends) can do it too, but usually at least the fact that they know you pulls in your favor.

On a related note, if you know somebody and have some background on them it's a lot harder for them to just disappear into thin air and leave you with bills or a lease.

It kind of works in a dormitory setting because you're only dealing with somebody for a year... or maybe just a semester if it's really not working out. Plus it's a necessary evil of sorts, students have to get housed somewhere and the common interest of the college experience tends to help things along. Not having that changes the equation dramatically. There's a reason you don't generally see people past college age randomly rooming with people unless it is absolutely necessary.

All that being said, compatibility is the key stranger or not. And yeah, living alone can't be beat!

The ideal is to room with acquaintances, people who aren't random and also aren't your good friends. If you room with randoms there is always the chance they are fucking awful and if you room with a good friend there is the chance that the roommate situation will ruin your friendship. If you room with an acquaintance, often the chance of you knowing their social network will prevent them from doing anything incredibly stupid and if it doesn't work, no real big loss.

Luckily, I've only had good experiences living with strangers. Both times we had this unspoken mutual agreement that we would just mind our own businesses and keep common areas clean (95% of the time I never used common areas anyway, and I'm pretty sure my roommates didn't either). In fact, out of the four months I lived at each place, I only saw my roommates maybe 5 times, max, and conversation was kept to a passing "hey".

There was this one morning when I woke up and usually head to the washroom to get ready for school, I heard someone was in the shower and was kind of mad, cuz I was gonna be late and no one showers in the morning. Heard the bathroom door open and saw this girl walk out wrapped in nothing but a towel, gave me this smile and said "oh, sorry for keeping you waiting". Turns out my roommate had her friend over the night and didn't tell me about it. Good times, good times

Pfft... Reminds me of an asian friend of mine's mom who didn't want him rooming with me because I was black so naturally I would a terrible roommate, but she approved of the random nice clean cut white boy he introduced her to.

Turns out captain whitebread was a big time heroine dealer and the cops ended up busting down their door during a drug raid. Asian friend's parents ended up spending a fortune in court costs trying to keep him out of jail and it nearly ruined his life.
Better Luck tomorrow, SUCKA!

I was personally the dream roommate: Paid my rent on time, kept the place clean (as long as the roomie helped), quiet, knew plenty of hot women and was an avid gamer. Hell I could even cook.

Anyway, the moral of the story is, don't judge a potential roomie by their color. Scum comes in all shades.

Nope she didn't say it to my face.
Now if she didn't know me from Tyrone and was your typical ignorant sheltered old asian woman then MAAAAYBE I could understand her not wanting her son to room with some "strange negro", but the fucked up thing is, that we were friends since 4th grade we spent the night at each others' houses all the time and both our parents' were cool with each other as well.

All that changed when he told her we were going to room together.

We don't talk much these days.
