I am wanting to start dieting and I know how to do the Weight Watchers thing, but the issue I have with that is that I spend most of my time awake at work. I drive a luxury taxi overnight, thus I have no access to a microwave for prepackaged meals.
I could take a cooler with me, but don't know of anything that would be "good" for me/to eat on a regular basis.
Any suggestions from SRK fitness freaks?
i think problem with most people is that they ask about what they should eat, but never watch how much they actually eat.
this is the same reason why a lot of fat people keep eating diet foods and drinking diet soda without rational moderation and remain overweight.
most people just simply need to eat less.
also, cutting off sugar makes a big difference.

eat low carbs, or stop eating carbs, its like so freaken hard to put on weight without carbs, seriously.
this means no potatoes, bread, cereal, oatmeal, donuts, pasta, rice, and no sugar.
limit fruits too, cause they have fructose sugar
instead, just eat meat, FAT (good fat), and vegetables.
drink water
I know some guys who were on this diet, they would eat 2000calories over what they normally eat (but absolutely no carbs) and they maintain the same weight. So if you eat normally, you will lose weight.
without insulin your body won't store fat, without sugar and carbs in your system your blood sugar level will stay pretty neutral and insulin production will be at its lowest, your body will then burn fat as fuel

^^ would you do that everyday? even on a job that requires alot of walking/running? or can you simply eat carbs on those specific days?

Here is what I came up with that worked for me (lost 60+ pound on this diet)
Breakfast: Fiber1 cereal with unsweetened soya milk
10:30am: Piece of whole wheat bread, plain.
Lunch: multi-grain rice + grilled lean white meat or fish + salad with vinegar dressing (if I am at work, I eat the low fat 6 inch sub on honey oat bread without the cheese and dressing)
4:30pm: Granny Smith Apple
Dinner: Same as lunch, sometimes I eat multi-grain pasta instead of rice if I had a heavier work out.
Stuck to this diet, in combination with workout I lose about 2-2.5 pounds a week. The amount of food to eat... the simplest is to eat such amount that you are in a perpetual state of not full or hungry.
Some tips:
1. Drink a lot of water, even if you are not thirsty: it encourages faster metabolism.
2. Avoid sugar, Saturated, and the evil trans fat
3. Get enough sleep, it actually helps losing fat.
4. I have a rice cooker, so I cook a lot of rice at once and keep them refrigerated, if I am pressed for time, I just microwave the rice (but it's ok room temperature too) and have them with canned tuna (which I also bought in bulk) and salad.

well this is how I eat everyday, regardless if I'm working, going to school, or at the gym...but on my gym days I just up my protein intake, which is already pretty high
but you have to do some research on this type of diet, if you dont get enough fat, you will feel lethargic, protein by itself can't cut it.
When I was eating carbs as my main energy source, I would feel hungry every couple of hours. Since I've switched to a high fat, medium protein, very low carb diet, I have so much more energy, and I stay full a lot longer. I find it easier to do this when I'm working, because I just don't get as hungry anymore, fat keeps you full.
heres some info from a guy who (http://magicbus.myfreeforum.org/Bear_s_Words_Of_Wisdom_about63.html) has been eating this way for 47 years.

I think to completely cut it out is not necessary, but just make sure you are taking in quality carbs (whole wheat at least, or multi-grain).

why? their effect will be the same in regards to fat...
its like sprinkling some seeds and nuts on ice cream, fundamentally its the same stuff...you just get a few more nutrients out of it...
If you want to go into fat burning mode, instead of fat storing mode, you have to drastically limit carb intake, and inversely increase fat intake.

eat subway roast beef sandwiches w/ sun chips twice for lunch and dinner, and cereal for breakfast, between lunch and dinner, and after dinner, then you'll lose 20 pounds in 2 months like me!
( in the process of gaining some of those pounds back ... i didn't want to lose that much weight )

No...no, you don't.
Eat smaller portions more often. Instead of eating, say, a sandwich, fries, and a drink once every 5 hours, pack some sandwiches and eat every 2.5-3 hours. You'll feel less hungry all day long, wich will start to reduce your regular appetite and fat storage.

splitting meals is ok
what matters more is reducing carbs/sugar significantly throughout all your meals

ketosis breath is not fun for one. And it's very inconvenient to corner yourself into one type of food group instead of a better balance.

except you won't have ketosis because you will be using ketones within a few days
A fully keto-adapted body excretes no ketones in the urine, or breath.
and carbs aren't a balance, since they are utter crap
