View Full Version : Where does Murphy's law hit you?

Anything that can go wrong will.
We all know Murphy's Law is BS. It comes from the human tendency to look for purpose in the world. I think. Anyway, it's not real.
Still, is there something you try to do that always gets screwed over by a random event?
I don't have an example from recent memory, but I think you get the point.

Videogames, coin tosses..
Everything and ANYTHING that can go wrong in a videogame goes wrong for me.
Or maybe I just suck at videogames.

Nah. God of War 2's Titan Mode took me through Murphy's whole library. And I'm not even past the Barbarian King yet.

Meh. I say Murphy's law is less a matter of teleology than one of meticulous policy. The argument follows that if "anything that can go wrong will," one should ensure that nothing can go wrong, regardless of how improbable it is.
Anyway, on topic: For me it seems to be whenever I need to get somewhere. Either the bus ran into construction or is delayed or my ride is snowed in or slept in or there's been a traffic accident and they're in a parking lot of a freeway.

For me, through out the course of my 20 something years of being on this planet I've noticed some type of pattern. I don't quite have it down but i get the idea that...everything sort of has a way of balancing itself out. I.E. If I happen to look down and spot 100 bucks lying on the street then most people would say HORRAAY!...however I look at at that 100 bucks and immediately take a look around for the car that I'm supposed to get hit by. It doesn't always seem to happen in that type of extreme way but I think it paints a picture at what I'm getting at.

Back when I was way into Legos, when looking for a specific piece in your puddle of pieces, you would never find it. Until you moved on to something else and 4-5 steps later when you can't find your new piece, you suddenly find the old one you were looking for 5 steps ago.

Fighting games for one. My execution is bad and I beat myself a lot of the time.
Another is my diet. I'm consistent with exercise, but can't stay focused on eating right.
Then there's women. See the crazy story thread for (tons of) details on that one.

Twice. Whenever I'm broke, my truck knows EXACTLY when to act up. Not like 50 bucks act up, I mean like at least 200 +.
And when I was working in the bar it would be super slow or dead and I'd see someone I'd been trying to hook up with come to my station, a million other folks show up and don't leave until he did. Oh well.
