View Full Version : So what's going to be the next new genre of music?
FurryCurry

And I don't mean sub-genre like neo jazz or punk rock. I really mean like a whole new sound that's like nothing before it. Or have we done everything that we can with music?
Ideas?

Dubstep
We should get animals and use them as instruments. That would rock.

PowerMetal mixed with Hard Trance or Hard House or something similar.

Dubstep
Dubstep is like... hmmm like slowed down d n' b. I tried listening to a SRK recommended radio mix and I found myself being bored although there were some moments where the mix got a little interesting I don't think this sub-genre can grow into it's own real genre (ya know not some small derivative of something else) and be propelled to the spot light as something that represents a whole new generation of music like jazz, rock, and hip-hop have.

What the fuck was that?:wasted: Don't ever post something like that again on SRK. I'll have you modded.
Shit sounded like flowers were gonna pop out of their asses and 90s rave girls were gonna fall out of the sky like rain. *shivers*

draws influences with a lot of different genres, with a foundation in traditional "black" and latin music like house hip hop disco soul samba bossanova etc to with electronic sensibilities.
oh, btw THIS is house http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFuujExs03A
i really wish people would stop trying to write off prog house trance bs as house.

Damn this is nice. Like really fucking nice.... I just can't picture kids getting into this :-/
NINJA EDIT: I'd do the chick in the middle.
And to whomever mentioned Mexican music with techno and probably rap and whatever else too may have a point. Cause I really don't see any new music coming out of the african-american community any time soon.

its deep music, but not to the point people can't tell what's going on if they listen. i mean yeah "kids" aren't going to be into it, but most people iv'e showed with a foundation in black music at many ages can appreciate it.
also, black people are pioneers of the broken sound. kaidi tatham from bugz, 4hero...etc but soul is universal regardless.

Actually that's true.
How many years did jazz, rock, or hip-hop exist before they became mainstream?
and...
I feel like the first decade of the millennium will not have a defining sound. Also, it seems like the 90s as a whole did not have a defining sound although one could argue that hip-hop defined it. Or maybe hip-hop is actually defining the decade right now.

I can't see Emo any more popular than it already is (thank God), it's had it's run from the 90s till now.
I reckon Grunge could see a re-surgence (you would need someone to fill Kurt Cobain's slot though).
Although I can't really stand it, Reggaeton was a pretty new genre of music.
I think we may see more this type of stuff in the future.

Darker aspects of metal and electronic music will merge into one big genre. Hard rock, black- and deathmetal merges with ebm, industrial, aggrotech, darkstep and digital hardcore. It has started to happen in all those circles, all around the world. And it's getting popular.

A question that I don't think any of us could answer. But based on what's been done so far it's been pretty darn good.
Maybe we'll get lucky and aliens into music will come down and show us something hot.
