.......I'm going on vacation to new york for the first time tomorrow and well I was looking for any helpful tips, ideas....ect.

I bought a travelers guide to new york, but was looking for things locals would recommend(cool places, food, clubs, hot spots, ect.). My hotels in downtown i think around 80th street. Someone told me to stay away from streets 40 and below.:wonder:

Man when I was in NYC to visit my grandma I didn't see no fucking CTF.

I think i saw CTF, but it looked closed down. I even went to the actual address and it looked like it lead to someone's basement.

Anyone got any pics of what CTF's entrance looks like? I was disappointed that I didn't get to see Justin's stomping grounds the last time I visited NY

If you couldn't find CF, then you have a shitty sense of direction.

Anyway, the OP is gonna get mugged. You never come to NYC in the winter. You're just asking for death.

Also, stay the fuck out of my city. I don't need anymore of you tourists blocking my path.

1. 80th street is way uptown, and regardless of side (east or west) you're in a good area.

2. Under 40th is Penn Station, NYU, Chelsea, Tribeca, LES, Soho...etc. and probably where you'll have most of your fun, your friend is a retard.

3. You won't get mugged unless you walk around with a $100 dollar bill sticking out of your zipper.

4. The only problem with New York is your budget is in direct relationship with fun. More money = more fun.

I'm guessing his friend meant to avoid hotels in that area. For the most part, hotels between Midtown and SoHo are expensive.

If not then the friend is indeed an idiot to tell OP to not visit the liveliest parts of town.

Yes really. 10+ minutes to walk down the block for some food because people are actually buying those shitty gift store items isn't fun.

Last friday there were a ton of random ass white families touring around CT. They were those really alien looking motherfuckers with ugly ass daughters.

True, if the only spots you know are in Manhattan, that is. Candy bar for $1? gtfo grocery man. I'd put out some sights to visit, but i'm pretty sure a tourist can only go so far (ya'll not blocking every sidewalk, nah.)

However, to a tourist, everything Orochi Ken said is pretty much right on point. Most of your fun would take place on the southern end of the island from where your hotel's located...unless A) You're rich, B) You're artsy, or C) You like chilling in Harlem.

There's some epic disdain for tourists here, so as the old saying goes "don't start none, won't be none". Stick to that, and you'll enjoy yourself. Have fun. :D

80th street isn't downtown.

-Check out Negril's in Chelsea for some REALLY good food, but don't be shocked if you see a lot of men holding hands with each other.

-Go on a double decker tour

-Walk the Brooklyn Bridge

-Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn is fun

- Central Park

-Just walk around and you will have a good time, really... Just make sure you have $$$ or the very least, manage your $$$ well.

It is an actual place about a block and a half from CTF... don't know why the sign is there because all that's in that tunnel is a couple of restaurants and a pharmacy.

Actually, it IS an arcade.

From Dictionary.com (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=arcade&x=20&y=17)

ar·cade /ɑrˈkeɪd/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[ahr-keyd] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation noun, verb, -cad·ed, -cad·ing.
–noun
1. Architecture.
a. a series of arches supported on piers or columns.
b. an arched, roofed-in gallery. Compare colonnade.
2. an arched or covered passageway, usually with shops on each side.
3. an establishment, public area, etc., containing games of a mechanical and electronic type, as pinball and video games, that can be played by a customer for a fee.
4. an ornamental carving, as on a piece of furniture, in the form of a row of arches.
–verb (used with object)
5. to provide with an arcade.

True story: Before I knew about Chinatown Fair my friend told there was an arcade in the area with a bunch of video games. I walked around and found Chinatown Arcade first and went back home and cursed him out telling him that was no "real" arcade. My friend sweared he was telling the truth and that the place even had a chicken that could play Tic-Tac-Toe. I thought he was really bullshitting me then.

I found CF a week later and I thought to myself "Holy Shit! He wasn't lying!" :wow:

People need to stop recommending this club. $30+ cover and $20+ cocktails does not constitute a "hot spot". Well, I always get in for free but it isn't that great. Not to me anyway.

You want great? Go to Cheapshots. Seriously.

Coming from somebody who has lived in both the EC and Norcal I have some tips.

Walk fast and get the fuck out of our way. Californians are way too calm and slow, east coasters have places to go and SHIT TO DO. Don't expect that shitty tasting california coffee (peets coffee and that garbage) at EC coffee shops, our coffee is like our people... bitter.

Don't talk to random people. I know motherfuckers do that shit on Muni, keep it moving.

Go to the McD's on Broadway it's a cool thing to see and they still got the dollar menu. http://img.groundspeak.com/waymarking/display/cc19eeaf-a0bf-4503-8d7d-a4015c980755.jpg
