Anyone else here snowboard? I'm heading to the slope tomorrow, but not really in the mood for it. I'm not that good and always falling on my ass, ugh. When I get home i'm going to be really tired though.

I'm not that good and always falling on my ass, ugh.

That happened to me during my first season. I became better during the next season and it felt pretty rewarding. Still, I hate going up on the ski lift that takes FOREVER. I'd rather just ride downhill for a good half hour like in Sonic Adventure or some shit. I tried to learn how to ski this year. You can go faster on skis than you can on a snowboard, but I still don't know how to stop. It's also easier to control, but that's just my opinion.

I try to go out for around 10 or 11 full days every winter. I'll also hit parks to practice rails and generally goof off. Snowboarding is so relaxing it's like therapy. You hit the mountain, forget about everything else for the day, and just ride.

i'm going back to whistler for 2 weeks on the 19th of Jan. i'm so fuckin pumped to try and nail some rotations, i'm going for than 540 this time. last time i tried a 360 i only made it 270 around. snowboarding is all about goofing off with your mates and cruising the powder.

For me, snowboarding is as good as sex.

Signed. Snowboarding is awesome. I try to get out as many times as possible a year, and I'm planning a couple big trips to the mountains with my friends. Should be a good year for it.

I go to Mammoth mountain a few times a year with my uncle and sister. I'm actually heading there again in a couple weeks. Might have to relearn how to carve, though.

If you aren't used to it, it really burns your quads out, FAST.

I haven't gone in 4 years now and I'm getting angry. I really miss it. I don't really ride parks, though. I prefer just cruising the trails and getting yelled at by ski patrol for going too fast.

Nicest things I think I own for snowboarding are my Bonfire pants / jacket. Shit keeps me warm and dry. Makes the trip 100x more enjoyable. Gloves are always nice, too.

I am snowboarding for more than 10 years now... I used to go there pretty much every weekend when lived in Europe...

I am probably going to Niigata on the 19th. I couldn't ride much last season as there was no snow in Japan last year.

But I am getting old... the tricks are harder and harder to land... -_-'

Man if it's your first time, buy a box of Icy Hot.. you're gonna use muscles you probably don't normally use so you can keep balance on the board.. and you probably will fall. Hard. And alot. Thankfully it's all powdery snow, so you shouldn't get any bruises although breaking something is a real possibility..

I haven't snowboarded since 04.. I went to Niigata too that year.. I wanna hit the slopes soon before I forget everything..

What's a good place to buy ski/snowboard clothes online?

I plan on going with my girlfriend since we've both never tried it and it seems fun.

If I go to like Big Bear or some mountain, how much do I expect snowboard rentals with all the shit I'd need be? I'm down if its like less than $200 or so, more than that for rentals is a rip imo

Don't rent at the mountains it usually cost more and there a line. If there a Sports Authority around you, then you can go there and pick it up the day before you actually go. They charge about $24.99 to rent. In my state most places are around $50-$60 for lift tickets. That is about $75 and as for food well it can get expensive so if each person bring $100 then you should be set.

Oh really? Just $30 to rent all the equipment or just the snowboards? I'm guessing I gotta buy my own helmets and stuff, iono what else I'd need. Wow thats cool, I'm guessing you'd have to put some sort of deposit or something so you dont take off with it right? How does this work?

$24.99 for snowboard/boots/binding of course. As for the clothes/gloves/goggles (optional) that you have to take care of yourself. You probably won't need a helmet unless your going to be trying to do back flips. As for the paperwork they take your credit card # just in case you don't return the board.

Maxx: The Sports Authority around here usually have a spot in the back or near the area where they sell snowboards/skis for you to rent.

Mountain Creek 'cause my friend who has been snowboarding for 17 years suggested it. I only fell like 10 times which I was super excited about and only four or five times were they really bad wipe-outs. I figured I'd fall at least 50 times knowing me.

I told my brother that I wanted to go snowboarding sometime, but I live in florida so no chance of that happening anytime soon. My brother was like "You don't have the douchebag hair you need to have to be a snowboarder." What does that mean? Do they all have bleached tips or some shit? But for real, looks so fun, I really wanna try it. I skate vert from time to time, and I can surf, maybe that would help?

I've never tried Snowboarding before. I went to France on a ski-ing trip and asked if I could have a Snowboard and they said no, only ski's. That shit was mad scary, I don't know, I just don't like the thought of me plummeting down a cliff with my ski's crossed awaiting the inevitable snapping of my legs. It's just not something I was comfortable with. But the snowboard looks so much better and easier too. Good hanling, really fast and safe too. You haven't got ski's or sticks getting in the way and you can just fall on your arse if you feel you're going to fall. As much a ski-ing sucked, snowboarding is something I'd deffinately like to try...

Maxx: looks like you went to Wachusetts mountain, right? I was just there this passed sunday. I went for the first time ever! I didn't do so bad. I mean, I could board, but I still need to learn to brake! Lolz! I collided in to 2 people. I have a story posted in Crazy Story Thread. It's relatively short, so I'll just summarize it here.

After going on the beginners mountain, I decided to go on the advance mountain (no not the black diamond), cuz I had more confidence in myself. It didn't go smoothly as I thought it would. As I kept falling every 30-50 feet, cuz I didn't know how to brake and I was afraid I was going to fast. So half way down the hill, I trip this chick from behind, and she proceeds to free fall flat on my face. Not my head, nor my cheeks, but SQUARED directly on my face. To top it all off, she bounced a few times on my face too cuz of the height she fell from. I thought it was hilarious, I still laugh thinking about it. Embarassing, yes, but it was well worth it. Also, it's not like I could really feel anything, because of how cold it was.

I was gonna say.. who actually wears helmets? I don't really ride parks or do big jumps anymore after a close call, so trail riding wearing a T-shirt, beanie, and stylish Black Flys goggles.

If you're just starting out, the best way to brake is to never get that fast in the first place. Nice, smooth carves. "Overcarve" and spend most of your time riding horizontal to the mountain. Ride lasts a lot longer if you want it to, also. If I do end up braking hard, I'll usually have my backside downhill so I can roll with it incase I go over. Feels more natural going into a fetal position than having your back arch and your feet go over your face. It's also how I broke my habit of breaking my falls with my arms.

EDIT: If you took lessons, try to get away from that "falling leaf" style of riding down the mountain. You look like a dork and you'll never really learn how to carve if you don't try sometime. I'd also recommend getting on the "intermediate" slopes. Bunny slopes are usually too crowded and the hill is too small to really learn how to ride. Most of your time is spent walking up the hill / riding a lift and dodging people.

I kept falling getting off the lift. lol. it was hilarious.

Snowboarding is my life.

I've been doing it for about 5 years, just going 3-4 times every year up until this current season. I have gone like 10+ times already and i'm hoping for at least 10 more trips. i used to skateboard a lot when i was younger, but snowboarding to me is the ultimate extreme sport.

there is no better feeling than being on the mountain with that fresh air. it is seriously Zen.

like someone said earlier, all of your stress and problems are left at the base of the mountain and the second u get on that chair lift the world is a better place.

this season i have been craving for the snow like a crack head. i'm praying to god i can go up this weekend since my big bear trip was thwarted last weekend by unpredictable weather.

i love rails/boxes, kickers and jumps, but my favorite is the half pipe. i can't wait until i go to mammoth so i can hit the super pipe there i have been hearing so much about.

i have a relativelly bigger board (162, i'm 5'11) but i like it better.

i have sprained both of my wrists this season more than once, almost broken my back, almost broken my legs, but thats what i love about this sport. you can get back up again and get revenge on the mountain, and that feeling of accomplishment is indescribable.

my biggest quarrel this season has been trying to master riding fakie. i can go down blue diamonds fakie, but i cannot bomb black diamonds like i would regular. it's critical to learn how to ride going both directions, because thats how you save yourself from eating shit a lot of times. especially when you are doing 180's and 540's (and 900's if ur semi-pro).

i am definitely landing a 540 this weekend, or at least a FAT ASS 36.

edit: bruised my tailbone as well, still recovering from that. a skiier that wasn't paying attention/going to slow got in my way, and i slipped and fell and busted the hell out of my ass.

Any tips for landing a 360? I am a intermediate I guess I can do180s just find but every time I try a 360 I somehow fuck up. Oh and what about half pipes I been in one when I was a little kid so that doesn't really count barely could even get to the top >.< but I am curious now and wonder how good or bad I would be if I tried it.

This was after my last trip in 2005, broke my thigh! I like to ride fast, and I hit a tree after skidding out of control on the mountain. I bounced off two tree's first and broke the nose and tail of my deck and the third tree I hit did that! Yea, they dislocated my hip, hollowed out my thigh bone and put a piece of metal in there, screwed it in.

Just started to get out there again a lot this season, and just got back from a weekend trip to Okemo. Ride hard!

Well here's the thing about 360's, and any other larger rotations for that matter. its all about rhythm and speed. what intimidates peoples is the amount of air (which isn't that much at all) and speed it takes to land a CLEAN 360. i have landed plenty of sketchy 360's with not enough air, and almost busted my ass, but i have gone big for a flawless one not too many times.

you should get comfortable with busting big slow rotating 180's, backside and frontside. once you get that down, a 360 is all about tweaking your edge right before take off so you can gain that extra momentum for the rotation. for a fronstide 360, when you are going off the jump, start to slide your heel edge slightly so that you go off the jump and you sort of fling yourself. throw your hips into it, and when you complete the first rotation, be sure to bring your legs around to stomp the landing.

the world tends to lose image when your spinning, so keep your head straight for that landing.

the way i describe it sounds very systematic, but it all happens so fast in real life that you will get what i'm saying. its all about surrendering your fears and focusing on having fun.

oh and be sure to keep ur legs up so you dont land on a caught edge.

backside 360's... thats a different story.

Wow you fuck up bad haha you should of ask someone for advice lol

Actually the pic makes it look a lot worse than it actually feels. It doesn't hurt at all after a week, before it hurted when I pressed on it and the sometimes, blinking, but thats about it.

Just hope the same shit doesn't happen again.

Mountain Creek 'cause my friend who has been snowboarding for 17 years suggested it. I only fell like 10 times which I was super excited about and only four or five times were they really bad wipe-outs. I figured I'd fall at least 50 times knowing me.

Haha, that's where I go. The last time I went, I fell too much. So i'm taking it easy for now. We might go this Friday, but i'm opting to go hang out in New Brunswick.

I'm heading to the mountains tomorrow, haven't gone in over a month, this'll be good for me since I'm going to kicking horse mountain in mid march.

ZOMG double post bump.

Just got back from kicking horse last night. It was tight as hell, went down the Feux Bowl and almost killed myself. Escape with just a bruised shoulder, but my friend wasn't so lucky. Hit a 10 foot drop in whiteout conditions and dislocated an elbow. Had to spend half the day sitting in the hospital with her ><!

But all in all, an excellent weekend.

My oh my, triple post because... no one snowboards?

Anyways, the season is upon us once again (in a couple of weeks, anyways). Where are people headed to this year? I'll be hitting up Jasper and Banff for sure, and than might head up to Whistler later in the season. I really want to go to Mount Washington on Vancouver Island as well.

I picked up new bindings this weekend (2008 Burton Triads on clearance, gotta spend within the budget). I want new boots too, but those can wait. Midway through the season, I might get a new board since the K2 I'm riding now is starting is show it's age.

The mountain is opening on Tuesday! I don't think I'll have time to go till the end of the month though =(.

Pac Sun is awesome, too bad they don't ship to Canada. It makes me so sad.

I've had the same snowboard, boots and bindings for like over 10 years now lol. Never changed once, same with my sister since we got them at the same time. We're like the only people in existence now that still have the CLIP ON bindings lol. Doesn't matter to us really though. Definitely got our money's worth out of it and we're too lazy to get new stuff.

Damn, I probably won't be able to get out till the end of November. My weekends are mega booked till then.

Night: How often do you board? That's pretty crazy that you've had the same board for so long. Mine's only 3 years old and it's already showing wicked signs of wear. Mountain free riding does a number on the board though haha.

I go up there like 2-3 times each season. I don't go enough to warrant a season pass, but we still make it each season. The board has the wear and tear, but I don't care heh. Until it literally snaps in half or something, I won't be replacing it anytime soon. It's more of a loyalty thing now.

Snow Jam is pretty awesome. I went a few years ago, got a 200 point lift ticket to Mt High for free. Good excuse to go to SD also for some mexican food.
