If you don't know what Top Gear is, it's a British show all about cars. Anywho, with the WGA Strike going on strong, NBC has ordered a pilot for Top Gear to premiere February 25. Here's the article.NEW U.S. PREMIERE SEASON OF INTERNATIONAL HIT CAR SHOW, TOP GEAR

- With guest stars Simon Cowell, Helen Mirren and Jennifer Saunders -

BBC America's International Emmy-winning car show, Top Gear, returns for a new U.S. premiere season with ambitious challenges only the very brave or very foolish would dare to undertake. The intrepid three hosts race through the Kalahari Desert in 20-year-old clunkers and attempt to break Sir Richard Branson's record by crossing the treacherous English Channel in a fleet of amphibious cars.

Top Gear, new season premieres Monday, February 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Miles away from earnest road tests or statistics, here cars are just a starting point for the adventures of three refreshingly irreverent hosts. The tall and witty Jeremy Clarkson leads the trio with his heavy right foot. Richard Hammond is the feisty daredevil with soap star looks. James May (aka Captain slow), with his amiable shaggy dog appearance and wry humour, completes the gang on one of the UK's all-time most popular television franchises. Rounding out the team is the silent and mysterious racing driver The Stig, who pushes cars and celebrities to their limits on the Top Gear test track.

This season features a transcontinental trip to find the world's best driving road, a drag race between a Bugatti Veyron and a Eurofighter Typhoon jet, man versus machine experiments and weekly power tests featuring the world's most exotic super cars. Once again The Stig puts the rich and famous through the paces in the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car' feature. Getting behind the wheel on the test track this season are Academy Award-winner Dame Helen Mirren, Simon Cowell, Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood, Doctor Who's David Tennant, Absolutely Fabulous' Jennifer Saunders and rhythm-and-blues maestro Jools Holland.

Top Gear takes extraordinary and ordinary cars to the limit and beyond to find out if they're as good as their manufacturers claim. Full of extreme stunts, challenges and weekly features, Top Gear is exciting, inclusive and passionate there are no boring stats and impenetrable conversations about camshafts and tire pressures. But it is the sharp wit of Jeremy, Richard, and James that make it more than just a motor show.

One of the most successful and interesting phenomenon's on UK television, Top Gear defies traditional notions of programming genre and has become a global phenomenon reaching 150 million homes worldwide. Part factual and part entertainment, the award winning car show doesn't fit into any standard category.

Just announced, NBC has ordered a pilot for a U.S. version of Top Gear from BBC Worldwide America.

BBC AMERICA brings audiences a new generation of award-winning television featuring razor-sharp comedies, provocative dramas, life-changing makeovers and news with a uniquely global perspective. BBC AMERICA pushes the boundaries to deliver high quality, highly addictive and eminently watchable programming to viewers who demand more. BBC AMERICA is distributed by Discovery Networks. It is available on digital cable and satellite TV.

the US version is going to fail miserably, clarkson/may/hamster are what make top gear a bad ass show to watch, trying to make a US version is just NBC being desperate for $$. Just keep it on BBC the way it has always been.

I LOVE TOP GEAR!!!! The best thing about the show is 1. They get to drive ridiculous cars, and 2. They bust car myths/company claims, and I loved the episode where the guy got under the "lightning machine" to see if a car getting struck by lightning would actually hurt the driver.

Yes, top gear is the shit. My mom has comcast and i think she gets BBC channel, over Christmas they had a marathon going on. Watched TG for 5 hours straight! My fav. episode is when they had the competition with the big ass tracker trailers....either that or going through the Bible belt with gay remarks on their cars

My favorite top gear ep is when they try to destroy the toyota hilux pick-up.

They:

-Set it on fire.
-Drown it.
-Lifted it on top of a building and demolished the building.

It survived.

jeremy clarksons a beast. the way he talks shit on hybrid cars is hilarious. that and the stig was the british witty version of chuck norris (though stig jokes came out before him)

-his earwax tastes like turkish delight
-his crash helmet is modeled on britney spears' head
-he has hydraulic legs
-he naturally faces magnetic north

WHOA! AWESOME!

Around the 2:35 minute mark, lol at the nascar crowd not recognizing the show. ugh.

Adam Carolla just confirmed he's hosting the US version!
I've always thought he'd be great on that show plus, he looks a lot like Jeremy Clarkson! lol

My excitement for this show just quadrupled! I really hope the producers don't fuck this up.

EDIT:
BTW, wtf 26 posts and 27 views on this thread? That's just sad for something like "Top Gear". A whole bunch of people need thousand point deductions on their manpoints.

There were rumours of Dan Neil's involvement with the US Top Gear from somethingawful.com forums a few months ago but I can't find any other sources. Final Gear (http://www.finalgear.com/news/2008/03/14/dan-neil-of-la-times-to-be-involved-with-gear/) mentions it on their site now however and an article on a local paper mentioned both Carolla and Neil so I guess it's safe to say that he is involved.

Great news to me! If you aren't familiar with Dan Neil, he is an automotive writer for the LA times and you can find some videos of him on YouTube for the LA times. His off-beat sometimes high-brow humor would play off well with Carolla's "say what's on your mind" blue collar approach.

K, it seems the hosts WON'T be the same now cause I just read that Adam Carolla is going to be hosting.

Adam Carolla may have been voted off of Dancing with the Stars early on in Season 6, but he's got a new move ready. The comedian will cohost the U.S. port of the British car show, Top Gear, alongside racing expert Tanner Faust and Eric Stromer (who's known for his home improvement expertise, on HGTV's Over Your Head).

For Carolla, who pulled off the world's first-ever paso doble (or something approximating it) on a unicycle during his Dancing stint, getting in the driver's seat for Top Gear should be a like a Sunday drive. Shooting begins next week — but will you be revving up for this U.S. edition? The first slew of comments suggest that Carolla leaves your engine cold. — Anna Dimond

Oh yeah, and as you can see, the premiere didn't happen in February like it was supposed to & they're starting the shooting next week.

I'm actually a fan of Carolla, but I'm mixed on whether he's the guy for Top Gear. I absolutely love the show but I'm not sure if he's the man for it. We'll have to wait and see

i think only in britain can you find engineers (i think all 3 of them had engineering degrees) with such a witty and rough sense of humor on tv.

thats where corolla comes in...but im skeptical if he has the car knowledge.

i just dont think a richard hammond would fly in america considering how culturally sensitive we are. but i know i sure as hell laugh everytime they crack a pansy joke about him.

hey for the gt.tv top gear stuff- is that free on gt.tv? gonna digress for a bit but i think the discussion belongs here. what do you guys think of prologue? ive got a logitech driving force pro from my ps2/gt4 days but im considering getting the g25.

Adam Carolla? I'm definitely watching this.
Yes, he knows his cars and no, he won't match the original hosts (do you think they would duplicate The Man Show when it was at it's peak?), but damn it - he makes me laugh.

I hope he brings in the same crew that worked on his house from The Adam Carolla Project.
Those guys were a riot!

Producers of Mythbusters and Monster Garage are involved with the US show it seems, great news for the building challenge segments I guess (plus Carolla and Eric Stromer's construction backgrounds).

BTW, Isn't the OG Top Gear's new season starting soon? Like in a few days?
