Dealing with asshole neighbors

Not too long ago, some new neighbors moved in next door where my sister used to live. Their dog took a shit on our lawn occasionally, but other than that I really didn't have any beef with them. In fact, I've never had any serious beef with any of my neighbors. Fast forward to a month later, January 17, 2008. I'm laying in my bed, dreaming about banning newbs in the Mvc2 forums, when all of a sudden I'm jarred awake by the sound of limp-wristed vocals and wooden maracas. I look outside my window and find my asshole neighbor blaring loud mexican music at 3:00 AM on a fucking Wednesday.

"Okay," I think to myself, "They probably just don't realize how much noise they're making." I turn on my comp speakers all the way and played "Let the bodies hit the floor" as loud as I could. Surely if they could hear me, they'd realize that I can hear them. How naive I was to presume I was dealing with reasonable human beings. After the song looped 3 or 5 times, and no noticeable change of behavior from my neighbors, I realized something. They are too drunk and/or too stupid to realize what I'm trying to communicate to them.

By that time it was 3:30 AM, knowing full well I had to wake up at 7 in order to go to school, I decide to pull out all the stops.

Operator: "This is the Houston Police Department, Debra speaking."

Me: "Yeah it's 3 am and my wet back neighbors are blaring loud mexican music outside"

(Note: I'm mexican myself, and thus by invoking the "nigga rule" I can use racial epithets so long as I belong to the race I'm currently using them on)

Operator: "This is in the driveway?"

Me: "Yes"

Operator: "What type of car is it"

This is what I wanted to say:

Me: Didn't you fucking hear me? I said they're wet backs, OBVIOUSLY it's a black pickup truck.

This is what I actually said:

"um... black pick up truck"

She didn't seem very surprised. After that she asked for the street name and the address and asked what my name was. I told her I wanted to file anonymously. The last thing I need is a cop telling my drunk gorilla of a neighbor something to the effect of: "Your neighbor (points to my house) notified us of a noise ordinance violation. Yes, your neighbor, him (points to my house) over there. He made this complaint, and if it's not too much to ask I think he'd like ya to stop. kthx"

Actually, sans the repeated pointing at my house, that's pretty much how it went when the cop arrived. In the cop's defense, these monkeys aren't completely stupid, they turned the music completely off the second the cop pulled up. They made some small talk and promised the cop they wouldn't be making any more noise. Of course, the absolute instant the cop turned the corner the music was on again. I noticed they also turned up even louder out of spite. "These motherfuckers," I thought to myself.

Here's one thing they didn't count on however: the redial button on my phone. I called again, explained how they turned it on the second the cop left, and within 5 minutes or so Officer Friendly was back.... except this time, he wasn't so friendly. He was actually quite pissed. In the span of 5 minutes he had transformed from Officer Wiggum to Detective Stabler. Not the normal Stabler either; I mean the child molester interrogating, might get suspended at the end of the episode, K-Groove level 3 RAGE super in your face Stabler.

He harassed those guys for what had to be at least 20 minutes, if not 30, and I loved every second of it.

"Who's truck is this?"

"What are all these beer cans doing here?"

"Do you want a ticket?"

Just a few of the gems I had the pleasure of enjoying throughout this encounter. To be frank, I haven't had this many laughs since they canceled Chapelle show. I wish I could say I laughed myself to sleep and the story ended here, but it didn't. I could still hear them talking, loudly. Drunken jibberish about how, "This is MY house," and other such nonsense. Then at 5:00 AM the music came on again, and I was too tired to care. I slept through my alarm, missed my class, and woke up exhausted at 10 AM.

I've been wanting to break that nako's jaw ever since (for those who don't know nako is basically the mexican equivalent to the N-word. I.E. An uneducated piece of shit that's a discredit to your race.) It's been at least 15 hours and I'm still no less pissed than I was then. Now I ask you SRK, what should I do? Should I try to call immigration and get his ass deported? Should I go upside his head with a baseball bat and crack open his empty skull? Or should I just go buy a gun?

Seriously I want to know.

I'd like to thank the 2 people who actually sat through all that.

Anyways, they were quiet for the remainder of the month. Then they moved out for no reason and I got.... well... I wouldn't say normal neighbors or ones without problems... but I have enough patience for the current ones.

Very true. But if the shit had gone to court, the judge could have been a real dick about and given everyone the same amount of time. The amount of people who get locked up over association shit is crazy. This is how you should deal with neighbors, in this order. If one step doesn't work, move to the next.

*Speak to them face to face.

*Call the Cops

*Tell the Landlord

*Take it to court

Its that simple. No need to get violent. Stuff like that can escalate to a situation that neither one of you wants to be in. And use some tact when you talk to them. Ive only raised my hand out of self defense. Because of my background, I will be held to higher standard in court.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. With most people you can nice and reasonable, and things generally work themselves out. But then there's the other type of people. People who lack consideration and empathy for their fellow man. They don't learn anything from people cutting them a break (like the cop who was nice enough to let them off with a warning the first time around), they need a sharp kick in the nuts before anything penetrates their thick skulls. They are the lowest common denominator and a few steps away from being sociopaths, or at the very least, extremely ignorant.

I love my fellow man, I always try to go through life causing as little pain and inconvenience to others as possible. But these people are pigs, and sadly they are not the worst humanity has to offer. At this point it's not even about what they did, but how they did it. That's what bothers me most.

Ryaahhh! This grandma two stories below me constantly calls cops on me in the middle of the night because she is delusional and thinks I'm blaring music. I had a neighboor once who is a pervert, and he likes to look through our backyard fence, and our windows. Needless to say i didnt have to confront him about it, pretty much since he is a big pussy. Luckly for him he moved out, otherwise i would of broke his fucking jaw.

You want JIN to move away to avoid it? Fuck that. All you are doing is putting someone else, who doesn't deserve that pain, in your place. That's running from the problem, and the biggest pussy thing I've ever heard.

Talking straight up to them probably wouldn't have worked, but as Sep said, it should have been done FIRST. Trying to out-blare them with the stereo wasn't really a good idea - they probably took it as a challenge.

Beating them up/pulling a gun/whatever is also a good way to find yourself in court. Elder, you are LUCKY you didn't get arrested for what you did - and brandishing a firearm, even if it wasnt YOU, can screw you - just look at OJ right now.

Ask politely first, then use the police (so you skipped to this step, no biggie).. If that doesn't work go online and check to see who owns the house.. THey might be renters, which means you can get a hold of the real owners and complain to them which may get them evicted. Depending on the rules of your homeowners association, you can also file a complaint there which will cause them a hassle (maybe drive them to move out.)

The LAST thing you do, when all else has failed with Cops and other options, is to fuck shit up. And this is only if you are prepared to face the consequences, like them jacking up your house/cars/anything you leave outside, and getting their 30 family members who live in the basement to join in the fun.

Bad neighbors are terrible, I've dealt with some before who finally moved out.. Also, remember you are not alone. Talk to your other neighbors and see if they too can file complaints/call the police on the next occasion. The more complaints that come in the better off you are, and you'll have people 'watching your back' in case they try to retaliate.

I lived next to a French artist once. Worst living experience of my life. He would blast really shitty house music that his amateur friends would make. It sounded like someone hitting a cowbell and yelling non-sensical French/English phrases to a bassline.

Sometimes, we would leave our garbage in the hallway overnight to take it out in the morning. We had a nice enclosed rubber can out there so it wasnt obnoxious. He used to take our trash out of the can and dump is right in front of the door.

By that time it was 3:30 AM, knowing full well I had to wake up at 7 in order to go to school, I decide to pull out all the stops.

Operator: "This is the Houston Police Department, Debra speaking."

Me: "Yeah it's 3 am and my wet back neighbors are blaring loud mexican music outside"

(Note: I'm mexican myself, and thus by invoking the "nigga rule" I can use racial epithets so long as I belong to the race I'm currently using them on)

Operator: "This is in the driveway?"

Me: "Yes"

Operator: "What type of car is it"

This is what I wanted to say:

Me: Didn't you fucking hear me? I said they're wet backs, OBVIOUSLY it's a black pickup truck.

This is what I actually said:

"um... black pick up truck"

She didn't seem very surprised. After that she asked for the street name and the address and asked what my name was. I told her I wanted to file anonymously. The last thing I need is a cop telling my drunk gorilla of a neighbor something to the effect of: "Your neighbor (points to my house) notified us of a noise ordinance violation. Yes, your neighbor, him (points to my house) over there. He made this complaint, and if it's not too much to ask I think he'd like ya to stop. kthx"

Actually, sans the repeated pointing at my house, that's pretty much how it went when the cop arrived. In the cop's defense, these monkeys aren't completely stupid, they turned the music completely off the second the cop pulled up. They made some small talk and promised the cop they wouldn't be making any more noise. Of course, the absolute instant the cop turned the corner the music was on again. I noticed they also turned up even louder out of spite. "These motherfuckers," I thought to myself.

Here's one thing they didn't count on however: the redial button on my phone. I called again, explained how they turned it on the second the cop left, and within 5 minutes or so Officer Friendly was back.... except this time, he wasn't so friendly. He was actually quite pissed. In the span of 5 minutes he had transformed from Officer Wiggum to Detective Stabler. Not the normal Stabler either; I mean the child molester interrogating, might get suspended at the end of the episode, K-Groove level 3 RAGE super in your face Stabler.

He harassed those guys for what had to be at least 20 minutes, if not 30, and I loved every second of it.

"Who's truck is this?"

"What are all these beer cans doing here?"

"Do you want a ticket?"

Just a few of the gems I had the pleasure of enjoying throughout this encounter. To be frank, I haven't had this many laughs since they canceled Chapelle show. I wish I could say I laughed myself to sleep and the story ended here, but it didn't. I could still hear them talking, loudly. Drunken jibberish about how, "This is MY house," and other such nonsense. Then at 5:00 AM the music came on again, and I was too tired to care. I slept through my alarm, missed my class, and woke up exhausted at 10 AM.

I've been wanting to break that nako's jaw ever since (for those who don't know nako is basically the mexican equivalent to the N-word. I.E. An uneducated piece of shit that's a discredit to your race.) It's been at least 15 hours and I'm still no less pissed than I was then. Now I ask you SRK, what should I do? Should I try to call immigration and get his ass deported? Should I go upside his head with a baseball bat and crack open his empty skull? Or should I just go buy a gun?

Seriously I want to know.

I live in an apartment complex, and the person directly above me insists on blasting his electronic russian music from 6-10pm daily. Now here's the thing, I don't even care about the noise, it's the god-damn BASS. Sitting in my living room (which is directly underneath his, and his stereo), I can literally feel myself vibrate. I've even set a glass of water on a table and saw the water ripple. I've complained to the building managers; no help since their office is open from 8am-5pm (they don't actually catch him doing it). I've went upstairs and confronted the guy; no help because he's old country Russian and didn't understand jack.

Then the other night it's really bad. Like, I feel my organs shattering because of the bass. I walk upstairs, SLAM on this guy's door with my fist 5 times, kick the shit out of his door a few times as hard as I can. No answer, but I hear him moving around inside. I basically yell through the door that if he keeps this shit up, I'm calling the cops. And if the cops don't get his attention, that him and I will be having more than just exchanged words.

To the poster who said I shouldn't have "snitched on him" for a first time offense, you should know that it wasn't really the first time this happened. Although the last time wasn't as severe, he did pull this shit before. The three key differences between that incident and this one which led me to calling the cops were:

1) Last time it was a saturday so I was awake anyways

2) It wasn't that loud

3) He quit after about 30 minutes.

I let that shit slide, although I didn't particularly appreciate it. I called the cops this time around because I figure if he doesn't consider his neighbors, then why should I consider him? Not to mention he'd probably keep doing with impunity if I didn't do something.

As for an update, he hasn't done it since, but I still suspect he may do it in the future. I may go around and rally support, as serpent suggested.

this happened to me, this summer, every friday and saturday night my neighbours would play spanish music from 11 pm to 4 am. and not only that, it was like the SAME songs everyweekend.

in the summer i didn't mind becuz i had no school so i was like whatever, but then school started and i was trying to study and it was pissing me off. I was debating wheater or not i should talk to my neighbours about it. The next weekend when they were playing music again, my neighbours were yelling and all durnk and there was a big ass fight lol. i was like, okay, i am definately not telling them shit right now.

I just went and bought ear muffs to wear when i study.

fuck, if i was in ur situation, i dont know what i would do, maybe get sound proof panneling for my room. calling the cops would be last resort becuz they would know that it is me. But then again, after 11pm, u have the right to not be interuppted my loud noise, espcially if it is something recreeational like music. Well at least where i live that is the case

Very true. But if the shit had gone to court, the judge could have been a real dick about and given everyone the same amount of time. The amount of people who get locked up over association shit is crazy. This is how you should deal with neighbors, in this order. If one step doesn't work, move to the next.

*Speak to them face to face.

*Call the Cops

*Tell the Landlord

*Take it to court

Its that simple. No need to get violent. Stuff like that can escalate to a situation that neither one of you wants to be in. And use some tact when you talk to them. Ive only raised my hand out of self defense. Because of my background, I will be held to higher standard in court.
Yep that basically summarizes of what is the proper way of handling situations like this.
Talk to your other neighbors. Get as many people on the street on your side. Have them all call the cops repeatedly around the same time. Several reports at once will give you a better chance at action being taken. You also can not be singled out that way.

I would never live in a hispanic neighborhood because that is common. Actually not a black one either, it's common there as well. It's unfortunate but that is the truth of the matter.

They are getting paid to sit on their ass all day while going over the overtime limit for cops which makes the city worse than it is. Which leads to higher taxes and more crime. But that is just a guess. :lol:

no if you are a land owner you should be showing concern period on what is going on in your neighborhood. If you are an investor or a primary residence and the area has noisy neighbors/tenants it could lead to property decline cuz the area will get a bad rep.

I didn't call the cops the first time because it was on a saturday and it only lasted 30 minutes. However, it was still at 3 am, which is pretty damn inconsiderate IMO considering they were doing that on their driveway so the whole neighborhood could hear (but my house especially, since we're right next door). The second time, which was the time I called the po-po, was from 3-5 am, on a wedsday, the morning of which I was supposed to wake up at 7 am for class. They also didn't stop the first time the cop showed up, and just had to keep acting stupid until I called a second time.

If I could I would've gotten their ghetto asses thrown in jail. I have no regrets about what I did, and only wish I could've done more to get them in trouble.
