Still my co-workers tell me that it's going to hurt me real bad in taxes if I don't write stuff off that I use to do this job. Only thing is, he told me that I need reciepts of each expense but I didn't save shit. I found out about a month ago that I can write off gas, tires, car maintanence, food, anything that I purchased that helps me do my job can be written off. BUT I NEED RECIEPTS! IS THIS TRUE OR CAN I JUST PUT IT DOWN AND HOPE I DON'T GET AUDITED??

Pretty much my feelings exactly. Honestly, it'd depend on whatever was left after bills anyway, but honestly I won't be contemplating until I see a check in my hand. This announcement is a gimmicky to try and calm people down prior to an impending recession, and maybe boost an approval rating somehow. He's still done but, that could be if this inflated refund occurs.
But, the next tax year we'd all be paying it back...trust me.

You know if you're 1099 you still have to report it. The company that hired you will report what they paid you and they pay half the taxes on it.. the other half is yours to pay. But I'm sure you knew that. Supposedly you end up getting taxed more. It's just your take home is more.
its only 300...
going in the bank. not too much you can really do with 300, IMO. what happened to this 900 dollar thing and 600 they were throwing around yesterday? how'd that shit get cut down to 3 and wtf are lower income ppl supposed to do with only 300? besides the obvious answer.

I assume this is on top of whatever tax refund we'd get normally? ..I would hope so. I'd see that as a nice big chunk of rent for a month at a new apartment I will mostly likely move to in the next 2 months or so....I should really look at more places, but this one made such an awesome first impression on me (*the property manager being insanely hot may have colored my judgement just a tad as well)
...or it could go towards a new laptop...or a couple of games with the rest saved...or a big payment on my student loan debt.....or perhaps just a good time at a strip club....there's quite a few options that come to mind.

It's 300 if you didn't have to pay taxes, but you had income of $3,000 or more. They're also talking about giving $300 per child to households. Upper limit on income for the loss. If I'm reading this right, I'm not eligible for this bullshit.

Even if I do end up getting taxed more (knowing my luck this will probably be the case) shouldn't the write off's make me break even? If not get something a little back? I mean seriously...for what I make compared to how much I end up spending in order to do my job should make me eligible for some money back...
My concern is the fact that I DON'T HAVE RECIEPTS to prove that I spend money in order to do my job. What can I do about this?

i knew what you meant but it just irks me everytime i look up the news they are talking this crap. It fucks up my business cuz everyone scared like shit. To be honest it is great time to get a home now if you have solid credit. These are one of the many reasons why we are doing commercial as a focus. Again it isnt as bad as it seem. In the dc area prices are actually going down. What makes things out of wack is that since 1990 the income of americans is going down while homes are continuing to rise (they havent fallen off hardly at all). Actually the real estate market is back to normal imo. I say this that within 2003-2006 there was an excessive boom and unheard of existing home sales where in 2005 there were a record amount of homes sold. Suddenly, things slowed down (as the real estate market always do) 2007 things went back to normal, then media as usual take it out more than it seems.

Yes. Probably don't have to worry about claiming it this year because you probably didnt' make much, but you will next year.
I started working part-time at Gamestop in Nov '06 and got a W-2, which I could have filed later becauase I didn't make enough and didn't really owe anything. Depends really, but if you want to be safe, wait for the W-2 to come in and claim it along with any other W-2's you received.
