Thinking of taking a trip to Amsterdam, need some advice

I will head to Amsterdam for a trip around August to September this year. The problem is that I don't know anyone there. I am going with my brother and we are hoping to join some local tourist groups but we're not sure how to book it in advance (if possible). Any suggestions on where to go? Anything in particular I should be aware of?

Go to www.hostelworld.com and look around, there are quite a few famous hostels in Amsterdam that are supposed to be good. Also, you will meet around zero dutch people while you are there.
