Believe me, I did a search for this first because I didn't want to be embarassed by the question....

I'm going to switch the gate on my JLF from the stock square to an octagonal. I opened up the stick, pressed in the tabs and was able to get the stock gate off. Is there a specific way the new gate is supposed to be placed on? Any marks I should follow or whatnot?

I know that a square gate can be turned to limit direction to 4-way. Are there any limitations with the octagonal?

Yeah I know this is beginner stuff, but i'm a beginner :)

BTW I'll also mention that it was a bit of a bitch squeezing in all 4 tabs at the same time.

Lets go back to kindergarden where you learn about symmetry, or in the case of kindergarden you are taught it as symmetree with a paper tree that is symmetrical.

Anyway, if you look at the octagon gate for all of half a second you will notice that its symmetrical so it doesnt matter how you put it on there.

Yeah I know I am being a bit sarcastic but there is a topic for simple beginner questions like this. Also, for the square gate, how you put the gate on does not determine whether its 8-way or 4-way. To change it to 4-way you actually have to turn the little piece in the middle.

As for squeezing all of the tabs, I find that you can usually get it by squeezing two adjacent tabs and lifting the gate up enough so that those two remain in, and then you can work the other two. This way you dont have to get all four at once.
