View Full Version : Extending the shaft of Seimitsu/Sanwa sticks?

I've done a few searches, perhaps I'm not using the right keywords. I could've sworn I read or saw something here about shaft-extensions for Japanese sticks.
I'm talking about adding something like an inch or so to the metal shaft, while still being able to use a standard ball-top.
Anyone know how to do this? Are there parts you can order that make this easy?

Too...many...innuendos!

^ is that about what you are going for? The JLW has a longer shaft for bottom mounting in wood cabs. You could just top mount it instead. Not quite the inch you were going for *chortle* but, better than an ugly extension...if such a thing exists.

lol yeah you can't really explain that one with out the innuendo

The appearance of the extension wouldn't really matter with the custom stick. It will have a custom sleeve around it.
I guess I may consider the JLW. Personally, I prefer seimitsu, but since it's going to end up being pretty unique, it shouldn't matter I guess. Thanks.
No, innuendo was not intentional, but somewhat unavoidable.
I guess I will look into the size differences with the JLW. Not sure off the top of my head.

I remember on the DOA 4 mod, chippermonkey used a nut under the ball to give him the height he needed. I guess if you buy a big nut you would be able to get the inch you need.

Hey yeah. I was considering doing that for the last couple mm, it would certainly help.
Also, I found this information:
Joystick Seimitsu LS56 -- According to the Diagram the shaft is 6.5mm longer than a JLW, at 33.5mm (base of ball-top, to mounting plate).
Sanwa Joystick JLW-UM (27mm):

Although the picture shows a JLW-TM, apparently... I know the shape on the JLW-UM is different, but is the metal shaft itself the same length on both JLWs? I was possibly considering the the UM/bat-top, if it was longer than the TM/Ball-top (and now, also longer than the LS56)-- I could attach a ball to it, and the shape of the shaft wouldn't matter since I'll be using a custom sleeve.
I actually prefer Seimitsu overall, but for this heavily customized project I guess it won't matter. Although with a taller stick, it makes more sense to have a slightly stiffer spring, like that of a Seimitsu.
I also noticed this: http://www.starcab.net/product_info.php?cPath=219_151&products_id=110 --- apparently 34mm, but the diagram displays it w/out a mounting plate.
Anywho, I think I may just go with the LS56. I think it suits my needs the most.
I know there are sites out there with some measurements, but some of it is confusing, or lacking some of the longer styled ones.
Thanks for the feedback.
It looks like I will go the LS56 route (good thing Chad is stocking it). I've always wanted to try that particular stick anyway, being mostly a user of the LS-32 myself. I will definitely show some project pics when I can. Tax-return money will be put to good use!
