They are all HPs, so they are hype automatically. Still, I'd go for the last fax unit or middle one.

Anyone know anything about Color Laser printers? Particularly, if the toner carts last longer than ink/bubble jets?

And This should be in the Tech Help forum.

toner carts last longer for about 2500 pages or about a year worth of prints. ink/bubble jets vary on the prints and they are mainly for photo printing.

and to the op, HP was rated 3 worst printer makers in Jan issue of PC World magazine. so you might wanna give that some tought

I have a black laser color printer that is a scanner copier printer, and I've had it for 2 years and changed the toner once. I print alot for college so laserjet is def the way to go. As for the color laser jets. They last quite a long time as well we just one at my job and we change toner once every 8 months. Keep in mind this is a business that prints alot of paper work.

Brand of my printer
Samsung

Brand of work printer is HP.

I have a Canon printer from like 1995 that is still beasting out black and white documents. Colors tend to get messed up though.

I have had canon pixma ip4300 (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PIXMA-iP4300-Printer-1438B002/dp/B000I3INLW) printer for over a year and I recommend it.
great for the $60 price range. I use it to print artwork for my stick, photos etc. and its a five color printer with 6 seperate color tanks (CMYK + extra black) so you only need to replace the colors that are low one at a time. 9600 x 2400 color dpi

If you're mainly a black and white printer, I can't recommend the Brother 2070 enough. I got the networked version because I have comps all over the house (2070N). I'm still on the original toner cartridge, which has outlasted numerous Graduate thesis prints as well as the lady friend's numerous lesson plans for her teaching classes. Good print quality, my only gripe is the fact that the pages will curl somewhat due to the design. This is a common theme with laser printers though.

The price is definitely right, too.

i hate brother.

Any particular reasons why?

my mom's basically falls apart. the fax i have at work doesn't send correctly... it sends, but it does one page... then will suck in ten pages, send those... then suck in another one... then send only that... then suck in the last batch (for example, if i have 20 pages to send out)

it's not a memory problem, because during that pause, i could just hit start again, and it will start reading hte next batch... it's weird like that.

the one my mom has is the 2080... try getting that scanner to work... :-/

and the ones that i show customers at work, including the one you mentioned, are so much louder than the hps and canons.

other than the fax at work, i dont' know how their laser printers work, but i can't vouch for their inkjets at all. the one you listed, as long as it works well, then that's a great price.. personally, there's an HP that's about 20 dollars more that i'd go with.

Fair enough. For what its worth I've had zero trouble out of my printer, and it was used an absolute ton during my last semester of grad school.

To the original poster, if you're looking for the ability to print out decent photos, you might want to look into either Canon or Epson's lines of printers that use their proprietary inks. I can personally vouch for Epson's durabrite ink. They don't fade and I was even able to run a photo under water without it bleeding one bit. The only caveat with Epson printers is the dedicated print head. They're not on the cartridges ala HP, so they're much more durable (and provide a much better print IMO), the problem lies when you don't use it for a while. Sometimes the print heads will clog up and you won't be able to get them unclogged. I know you can buy replacement heads for some models, but I essentially bricked my last Epson printer for this very reason.

The other plus to using separate color ink cartridges (most models use 3, some use 5) is that you don't have to replace the color cart if you just run out of one color.

Just something to consider.

Also note that Samsung printers no longer have Mac drivers on their U.S. website. If you want Mac drivers you have to go to one of the European sites.

Not sure if this applies to anyone, but just a note.

since I'm a Canon sales Rep I'm gonna say Canon ftw. ranked highest amongst customer satisfaction and over quality of printers.

if you do lots of printing for school/work/home office I recommend MX700
http://reviews.cnet.com/multifunction-devices/canon-pixma-mx700/4505-3181_7-32590817.html?tag=prod.txt.1
this is a multifunctioned printer that prints, scans, fax, and copy.
capable of printing photo quality prints too, prints 4x6 boarderless in 46 sec
4 ink tanks for 1 black, 1 blue, 1 magenta, and 1 yellow. good for ink economy
33k fax
computerless printing via memory reader slots and picbridge with 1.8 lcd screen
duel paper feed

and if your heavy on photo printing I recommend MP970.
http://reviews.cnet.com/multifunction-devices/canon-pixma-mp970/4505-3181_7-32590837.html?tag=prod.txt.1
7 ink cartilages
4x6 boarderless prints in 35 secs
scans and can scan negatives and slides
computerless printing via memory card slots (read 9 different types) and picbridge with 3inch TFT monitor
duel paper feeds

but its gay they don't give you the printer cables anymore

if you don't like Canon I recommend Samsung or Brother

I hate ink cartridges... I rarely print in general. Even if I do, it's usually just a B&W document and not even grey tone photo. Practically NEVER print color photos yet I still have to replace the ink once a year. I get the feeling the ink just dries out even if you don't use it. The worst part of it all is that the printer doesn't let you print black and white even if you have a lot of black ink, but are empty on cyan, magenta or yellow. Pretty wack.

If I had a choice, I'd go with a laser printer. You save waaaaaay more in the long run.

I like Lexmark, but overall its not just brand, some models from all brands are exceptional, and others are complete turds. Then theres manufacturing errors, etc, etc.

One things for sure, the customer service for all brands suck. heh
