lmao!

After ordering pizza for the gang on Super Bowl Sunday, many folks will be able to go online and track the progress of their pies.

Domino's, (DPZ) the pizza-delivery kingpin, on Wednesday will unveil a technology, Pizza Tracker, that lets customers literally track their pizza from the moment they place the order until it leaves the store en route to them. What's more, Domino's vows that its online tracking system — for phone or online orders — is accurate to within 40 seconds.

"We're filling that black box of uncertainty — 'Has my pizza been forgotten?' — with information and entertainment," says Chris McGlothlin, technology chief at Domino's.

The system goes up Wednesday at 3,400 Domino's outlets and will be in all stores by June 30, he says. It even gives folks the first names of the workers who take their phone order and deliver their pizza — and asks customers to rate them.

Any customer comments about inappropriate behavior by order takers or delivery staff will be investigated, spokesman Tim McIntyre says.

In a nation ever eager to track delivery of everything from FedEx packages to Amazon.com orders, it's now come down to tonight's pizza. The move by Domino's is aimed at its youthful target: consumers under age 30 who spend gobs of time online.

Sadly, there are probably a bunch of people who will be enamored of this, says Christopher Muller, director of the Center for Multi-Unit Restaurant Management at University of Central Florida. "I guess they'll sell a ton of pizzas to people with no social life who are sitting in front of computers."

But not everyone's so sure.

"It's technology in search of a problem," says Brian Kardon, chief strategy officer at Forrester Research, a technology researcher. "I don't know how many consumers are twisting and turning over the state of their delivery pizza."

Domino's says plenty are. "It's an emotional roller coaster when you order," McGlothlin says. "Customers wonder: Did they get my order? Are they taking care of me? Will it show up?"

With the new system, after an order is placed, the customer can go to dominos.com, click on the Pizza Tracker icon and follow the progress of the order. The site confirms that the order has been received, when the pizza is in the oven, when it's been boxed and when it's left the store.

Alas, a key part of the pizza's journey cannot be pinpointed: the drive from Domino's to your home. But Domino's can tell folks when their pizza left the store, and officials say it should arrive within nine minutes of that time.

Rival Pizza Hut is unimpressed.

PizzaHut.com already provides an estimated time when customers will receive their orders, says Bob Kraut, vice president of marketing.

I have never once been so distraught over if my pizza would arrive that I would track that shit. If it took a while I would simply call them up and wonder what the hold up was. Or most of the time I just picked that shit up myself.

I can understand with big ass orders for events, but for everyday pizza it is kind of silly.

OH NOES, my pizza is taking more than 20 minutes to get to me.....what am I going to do!!!

Me.....I'll just drink another beer and scratch my nuts some more.

You guys are from NY and you buy the major chain pizzas!?

For shame.

I was born in the Bronx, left when little and to this day I vowed if I ever moved back to the city I would never buy chain pizza ever again!

I guess I'll be the first, and probably only person here to say that it's not a complete bad idea. Do I think it's pointless and a wasted effort? Yes. And I don't even order pizza for delivery, ever. However, I know people that would actually track their pizzas if the option was available to them. And I'm sure there are many more people out there that would do the same. These people are always checking on their PCs, it's rediculous and annoying. But that's who they are. Addicted to the internet.

And whenever a pizza delivery is taking a seemly long time, my impatient friends would call the pizza place to ask what the status is on their order. LOL

It's just a novelty idea to get people buzzing.

I think it would be cooler to make your own pies for the super bowl.

And Dominos is actually the delivery king? OH GOD. Pizza is bad. I've never had good Dominos before, ever.

i buy chain pizza if i'm hungry and walking by. usually there's only chains where there's no other pizzarias for about five to ten blocks. lol. i think that papa johns i was referring to, is the only place until you get to lenny's pizza about 1 mile further down under the train station. so if you're hungry, it's right there.

My thoughts exactly.

At first, I was excited about tracking the pizza.

But now :bluu:

I'm ordering pizza. And like every SB Sunday, it will take it 2 hours or more. So even if the place I order from did this, I'd check it over and over and it would still say "Hasn't been placed in the Oven yet. Go look at porn and come back."

PS - Patriots ain't winning shit!

dominoes gives good deals to the students at my school. 5 pies, 2x 2lt pepsi, cups, 3doz wings on super bowl sunday for $30 if you pay tonight, they guarantee it before kickoff tomorrow. tomorrow, it's the same deal, but $40, and they don't guarantee it for kickoff.

I thought everybody agreed that Papa John's was the best chain pizza by a long shot? They cost an arm and a leg, but I guess you get what you pay for.

The best cheap chain pizza is Hungry Howies, or Little Ceasar's. I can't ever decide. Being able to walk in and pick up a pizza instantly for $5 at Little Ceasar's is tough to beat. I think Howie's might taste a little better, but you know, you have to wait like 10 minutes for them to make the thing. =p

I'm definitely a $5 pizza whore when I'm broke.

With that said though, it's pretty hit or miss as to the quality. Sometimes it's really well cooked, hot, and could easily pass for more than a $5 pizza. Other times....it really taste like a $5 pizza

Who the fuck eats Dominos pizza?
In my old small home town, Dominos was the only fucking place that opened later than 11pm for pizza. Which is FUCKING BULLSHIT considering what pizza place CLOSES at 11pm on a weekend? The worst thing yet is that since it is such a small bullshit town, and even though they were supposed to be closed at 2:00am, THEY FUCKING CLOSED LIKE AT 11:30PM when I was partying with some friends and we needed a food hit. FUCKING SHIT.

So to answer the question, the only people who eat Dominos are the drunk and desperate who stay up past midnight.

That's true TheSix. It is quite hit or miss. Locally, my Hungry Howies seems more miss than hit these days. =(

This is gonna cause some shit...I can already see it. A fat nerd orders a pizza while playing Warcraft with his online pals...but 30 minutes isn't soon enough. So, grabbing up his satellite-internet-connected laptop, mighty Thirstan dons his helm of +5 fortitude (which, oddly enough, appears to be a mere 1987 Oscar Meyer beanie), and heads out in his mom's car to do his own version of Wardriving: Warcraft online, and hunting the elusive pizza boy, all from the comfort of mom's station wagon. You can imagine how this turns out.

My friend gets Domino's all the time because he is poor and they are cheap.

I've know about the pizza tracker for a couple weeks now...

Here is the story via AIM Away message

VS's Friend (9:42:34 PM): Domino's has a Pizza Tracker now
VS's Friend (9:42:44 PM): it is a meter that tells you when your pizza should arrive

VS(9:43:28 PM): this is amazing
VS (9:43:36 PM): what is your pizza meter at now?

VS's Friend (9:43:57 PM): it is at "prep"
VS's Friend (9:44:01 PM): and is about to go to "bake"

VS(9:45:01 PM): hahaha
VS (9:45:07 PM):*FRIEND OF VS*, that is both hilarious and sad

VS's Friend(9:49:09 PM): Mike
VS's Friend(9:49:15 PM): It is being baked now!!!

I digress, my favorite part about ordering delivery pizza is how many fucking times I forget that I did

"oh my GOD YOU GUYS WE ORDERED PIZZA! YES!"

10 minutes later

"fuck, I'm hungr--OH MY GOD YES! I ORDERED PIZZA! It's gonna be here in like five minutes!"

. . .

*doorbell rings*

"Wha--OH! I FORGOT AGAIN! YESSS"

Holy shit. I'm eating Dominos Chicken Kickers right now that I just ordered a little while ago using that tracker thingy. I just saw this thread a second ago too. Weird.

Anyways that thing is cool, it was to the tee. This time. The guy came here right when it said he would with his name too. So I knew the drivers name before he even came. I was hungry as fuck so I sat there and kept going back to that tab to see how accurate it was gonna be.
