I'm currently looking for a place to move to, and I was considering moving to a bachelor apartment. The only thing I know about bachelor apartments is that it's basically one room. They're also cheaper than one-bedroom apartments.

Does anyone here live in a bachelor apartment? If so, do you recommend them? What are the pros and cons of bachelor apartments vs. one-bedroom apartments?

How much room do you need for yourself?

Good question. Let's see...

I need a bed, and a desk for my PC. I also plan on having a small TV to play games and watch movies, so I'll need a stand for that, and a small sofa to sit on. There's a table that I'm gonna take from my sister. I also have an exercise bike.

i think they're called studio apartments

my friend livesin one and he likes it

just has everything in one room, bedroom, couch, tv

i think the one thing tho is he doesn't have a place to change, he has to do it in the bathroom

and the only door is on the bathroom

Studios(that's what it is called here) are fine by me....mostly since I'm cheap and don't have much stuff anyway.(futon, small table for a 26' tv, games, computer and a desk, and a chair, and a cheap card table for the kitchen) I had a studio as my first apartment when finally moving out on my own. I have a 1 bedroom apartment now, and I still live as if it were a studio, really. The "bedroom" is just a big storage room to me. Anyway, my studio had the one main room, a kitchen and a bathroom...along with an odd "extra" lower-level room/area(it was like a little dungeon or basement or something...I dubbed it my "Batcave").

There's also the issue of price as well. For those without a lot of stuff, the studio should be the more sensible choice.

bachelors dont have kitchens so you will be wasting money that way. It's best to find a studio/single.

I'm interested about this as well. I'm a cheap guy. Food atm eats most of my money. I plan to move within a year. Gotta get a car first and finish community college...

I don't have a lot of stuff either. Everything I need can fit in one room. Sounds like a studio is good for me.

I just checked some of the studio prices and good god; Cost as much as this 2 story, 3 bedroom my family is staying in now.

WTF?

I'd rather get a small studio for myself at Uni. instead of that dorm shit. But damn.

No kitchen? That's a strike against getting a bachelor...

Take everything you have and cram it into your bedroom.

If this sounds OK, you are good. More space is better if you have the money, but that's all you can afford a studio is definietly going to be cheaper.

A regular apartment with a roommate might be cheaper and give you a bit more room, if you can find a good one.

here a studio costs $1200 + utilities in almost every half way decent neighborhood

my mortgage on my house is only $1425/month (including property taxes) and i have 5 bedrooms 3 baths and 3 floors and a finished basement

pretty sick, but i did buy before the "BOOM"

One of my friends wants to be roomies the only problem is his GF. She's real cool. She's a gamer like us and likes the same things we like and she can get us to see screenings of any movie and discounts on snacks at the movies($1 nachos ftw).

He told me that she likes to go around with a lack of undies and bras. Now she does have a great body but she's all she only feels comfortable around him and there is no way in hell I'm going listen to them screwing around.

Are bachelor's that small? Hmm...I found a place I'm interested in, so I'll check it out when I find time.

I want to avoid having a roommate. Too many stupid memories of university residence life...

I'm currently living in a studio apartment right now and I'm fine. Rent+utilities comes to around $465 a month here. You can usually get a good idea of the apt. size by comparing it to your own bedroom with an addition of a small bathroom. If you can manage living in your bedroom throughout the days, studios isn't a bad idea. However, like someone said there aren't any personal kitchens. Building housing studio apts. usually have a communal kitchen though. Neither is really relevant to me cuz 1) I can't cook and 2) I have a meal plan.

I'd say studios are good for living off campus but if you're trying to live on ur own doing real world kind of shit, look for something more roomy.

i'm enjoying my one bedroom - when you have company, the only thing you need to worry about cleaning is your living room/kitchen, while keeping your bedroom an utter mess.

but i spend so little time here... it's basically a place to keep my stuff at the moment.

p.s. shit's embarassing when you bring a girl back to your studio in opposed to your one bedroom apt.
