So I tried searching but couldn't find a definitive answer.
How do you guys test for lag with controller converters, video upscalers (PS3) or various PCB's? Is there a definitive game to use for testing?
Personally the last thing I used when testing the PS3's upscaler was VF4:Evo's training mode with the frame data on. and honestly I couldn't tell if it was lagging or not. I will say that with it upscaled it didn't feel right.
So what's the best way to test?

I don't think that when the Ps3 upscales old games that there is any lag is created, but when the TV itself upscales say a ps2 game that there is lag. Not sure about this though so don't quote me.

There is lag in the PS3's upscaling, unless it has been updated recently without my knowledge (possible). It has a frame-buffer system of sorts to de-interlace ps2 games and it seems to be coded fairly sloppy. It's a very small lag, though, I believe. A few frames at most.
Most people gauge lag with "feel", which is a hilariously inaccurate measure, obviously, since the only thing humans can do with real precision is count. A decent system of measurement is guitar hero 2/3 being upscaled, as you have the "calibration" mode to get an approximation. I've ran a few tests using captured video. I displayed the same video on my PC monitor as my DLP TV to test for lag from lower-res sources, and I ran timecode on the video so I could count the frame difference. You have to be fairly creative with your solutions, as there aren't really great ways of accurately testing this stuff that are easy to get ahold of right now.
