View Full Version : use your own controller arcade cabinets
Why dont arcade manufacturers include a port to plug in your own stick or pad like the U.S Tekken 5 cabinet?

because 99.9% of people use sticks and the arcade operator is expected to mantain the panel.
I think it was a great idea.

Agreed. If all cabs were made like that, no one could bitch about the controls being broken after losing =)

How many new fighting games are coming out in the US though? But yeah it was a cool idea.

Too bad they never bother. Most arcade operators don't give two shits about their job. We had a CvS2 machine here and the P2 side was completely busted for months. They finally took the game out after they decided it wasn't making enough money. GEE, I WONDER WHY.

Im sure if it had a ps2 controller port people would have still played it. I would rather play on my modded t5 hori than some of shitty controls at U.S arcades. Some bitch ass mofo negged me and called me a noob for making this thread

of course not, 80% of all console users who definetly outnumber regular arcade goers use pads.

People who go to arcades usually want to play on sticks.

arcades are made for people to enjoy gaming OUT OF their homes. And normal folk dont leave their house with sticks in their hands. Non 2d fighters will see this as 'why cant u plug in your own gun for VIRTUA COP' etc etc, its silly :)

and they still can. put arcade ports in cabinets and you'll get even more people going to arcades.

I'd like to see ports for controllers just so I can stop hearing, "if I had a pad I'd rape you! I hate sticks!" That makes me die inside just a little bit.

I think that if arcade machines had PS2 ports, plenty of gummy things would finish in there.

I wish a controllers pad is legal for tournment because I make new rules. :arazz:
the discussion is about pads too but the reason i said stick is because i dont use pads for fighters. The number 1 reason why i go to arcades is for comp but when the equipment is broke it keeps me from enjoying the game.

I think it has more to do with licensing and stuff like that. Generic arcade cabinets don't want to have to pay sony to use their ports on machines. the reason why Tekken5 has it is because it's built on a sony playstation platform (and the nature of their business relationship doesn't hurt either).
it the arcade operator REALLY wanted to, they could add ports on, but that would require a LOT of work.

i thought that having a ps2 port on tekken 5 was a great idea. but they should have some other than a ps2 port lol like make a port for sega saturn pads! that would be godly...

All I know is that this reminds me of when I saw Tekken 5 the first time at my local "Golf 'n' Stuff". There were these 4 kids there and they had set up shop right in front of the machine. They brought like 3 collapsible chairs and they all had their own sticks. I stood behind them like I was watching the game but I was actually checking out there customs. Man, they were crappy.
Still, they managed to have the best of both gaming worlds. They got to play sitting down AND pay 50 cents per play.

When Sega first unveiled the first Naomi dedicated cabs they had Dreamcast controller ports. It was an awesome idea, but I guess, like evil said, 99.9% of people that go to arcades usually want to play on arcade sticks.

Dreamcast pads are the worst pads ever. sega always fuckup potentially good ideas. should've been ports for the saturn pad instead.

its a lot better than the ps2 pad. dpad and buttons.

02-13-2008, 08:24 PM
even if the pad sucked, you could always have a dreamcast arcade stick to plug in
the idea is good, but what if the button configurations dont match up?
built in arcade controls are consistent - personal controllers are not. there could be a configuration menu, but that would complicate things.
Sexperienced.

if its a saturn pad the configuration should be no different to your standard 6 button arcade set-up anyway.

Is there any kind of compatibility issues with these things? I'm guessing there would be, but does anyone have any experience with maybe a certain stick or pad that didn't work in the ports or even using a >PS adapter?

I see what you mean, too bad not all places bother to maintain their machines. When my local MVC2 machines get a broken button or something, it usually takes about an ETERNITY before they find the "time" to come fix it.
Having a PS2 controller port, would enable me to bring my custom stick and use it, that would rock!

If my arcade's cvs2 machine was down for more than a week, I'd straight up tell them that I myself would fix it if they gave me the key. Hell, I would bring in a happ microswitch or pushbutton just so I wouldn't have to deal with all the problems associated with missing a button.
Replacing a p360 on the other hand is a bit too hardcore for me. Maybe i'd bring in a IL comp :D.

do you play at golf land in milpitas(spelling?) lol
also sega dreamcast pads were alright but in no means ment for fighting games the saturn pad was the best pad for fighters.
