Street Fighter 101 Presents: Kaillera/P2P 3rd Strike Ranking Battles

Introduction
Starting 2/29/2008 there will be weekly online ranking battles. These are small tournaments in which you are put up against other people to see how well you do overall over a period of time compared to everyone else.

Everyone is going to meet online on the specified dates and time for the tournaments, lateness will not be tolerated.

We will have a website up for vids and current rankings of the players

Each season will be 6 weeks long and the winner will get something... not sure what yet. The main point of this is just to play and have fun.

Rules
-Single elimination
-Single game untill semi-finals and finals (then it is 2/3)
-Must be in irc channel (#Sf101RB on efnet)
-5 minuet DQ rule in effect. If you are not there for your match within 5 mins you are DQ'd
-Must stick with the same character throughout the tournament (super art may be changed)
-P2P is required ... if you cant connect then find a server or have me flip a coin to see who wins (i suggest TX for cross country games, GW for east coast, WW for west coast)

-You must be from north america... sorry but lag across the sea is rediculous

NEW RULE: WHEN USING P2P YOU MUST USE NFBA WITH FEB11 OR 23 CLIENT
YOU MUST USE HAMACHI AS A MATCH MAKING TOOL, IT ALLOWS PEOPLE TO HOST AND BE ON WAITING GAME LISTS EVEN IF THEIR PORTS ARE BLOCKED AND BOTH PLAYERS ARE IN THE SAME NETWORK

1st = 10

Most points at end of 6 weeks wins.

Seeding
After the first week there will be power seeding... don't like it tough shit.

Top 4 players will be put into power seeding positions... rest i will randomize with random # generator.

IMO the system we're using for the ST ranking battles is far superior, you should check it out. It allows you to come and go as you please, not have to worry about missing a week, only play people you have a good connection with, etc... It also gives beginners the ability to have fun beating pros.

I would participate in a 3s ranking system like the ST one but I won't do this kind of tournament style. I find 3s unplayable unless the lag is in the "hit confirm my low forward consistently" regime, because that's what the game is all about. With the ST system I could stick to playing people with whom I had this sort of connection.

that's true...but on the same token if you lose with a top tier to a low tier you should be QQ even more than a low tier would if he/she lost to a high tier. bad match up exists and at high level play are very noticable, even the japanese acknowledge that. the input delay in mame isnt as bad as people think it is... if you have your computer setup correctly.

i kara dp at 80% offline and on mame, i get it at like 20% on nfba... i get kara palm 95% offline and on mame... 30% on nfba.

nfba SEEMS to actually make the inputs read too quickly.

that doesn't even make sense, the emu can't read the input faster than you hit it. mame will miss inputs thats the major issue. I play a shit load of mame so I know.

most ppl agree that nfba is better its the ones that are on kaillera servers that don't agree or refuse to change. But i thought we already established that kaillera server = garbage. The basis of comparison is .117 and only that, they most likely wont even dl nfba so they can't really compare. Majority of the players on p2p have agreed that nfba is better.

I don't mind we use .119 but why .117? We going backwards yo!

I think the default emulator should be 119. 80% of the 3s players have 119 and for a good reason. The other 20% are the people who are stuck on godweapon and dont really care to much about 3s. So this type of thing isnt really for them anyway.Useing the more up to date emulators will bring a better crowd.

its 1 frame worse on mame. and honestly that can make a huge difference especially when you consider cross country play where more input lag comes into play from online. read inputs too quickly is impossible. and my friend DannyL (who is an established tourney player) can kara palm 80% on nfba with no problem, he gets them just as consistenly offline as he does online. maybe your timing iss off and the 1 frame lag is helping you?who knows.

Count me in for this. I really do prefer nfba, especially for coast-to-coast, if this is really the question why not just put up a poll for the preferred client?

I tested both and I am agree with shodokan all the way about Mame. I tested both, but I found Mame worked better for me. The only thing is that it drop more often because it use too much ressource on my computer. No matter what, I got less lag on Mame than on nfba.

I cannot believe that it is something like the converter/pad or something like that because if it was it will be the same for both (MAME and NFBA). So that's not working. I know that nfba lag less for me to some games I also play. Last day I was playing a guy on mame who had a better pings and frames rates on wireless than he had with Ethernet. That was kinda weird. I wish to be able to play third strike on GGPO a day. It will be so much better with a rollback connection.

Yea, as long as BOTH players agree. So that means if the other player doesn't want to play on nFBA or 119, then make sure everyone has 117 because that's the default emulator. :)

yea when i used to live on campus with campus connection, they basically block off every single port and there's no real way around it. well there was one way, wh ich i used for torrenting heh. I used to torrent on the AIM port which was like 5190 or something but that was like 2+ yrs ago

I had a similar problem that was solved by uninstalling Hamachi, and then re-installing it after deleting it and everything else it left behind. (Which included some registry keys, if I recall correctly.)

Couldn't tell you. I found a hamachi help document concerning the problem (do a search on google, couldn't refind it) and that's what it told me to do. Hope this helps.

to be completely honest it's to the point where i can only play against a select few every day from like 11am-1pm... and the only one i learn from playing is darage and he is barley ever on anymore between those times. I can only play twice a week cause i get out at or after 1 on monday/wednesday/friday. My connection here on campus is utter garbage so i'm waiting for summer (mid may) when i get to go home and play on a stableish connection where i can play other players worth playing. If i'm losing repeatedly and not learning anything from that then it's not worth my time. Part of it is my own fault for not understanding the game well enough to actually learn from these situations the other part is simply the quality of players i get to play... most of whom can't get me into situations like chi-rithy can for example where i feel helpless and need to actually try and learn how to defend correctly or i get owned up for free.

eh, its online. Sounds like you're taking it too seriously. You don't need to learn anything. All I learn online is character strategies and setups. You play against decent players without lag or delay to really practice. Online you just have fun and stop playing if you get frustrated.
