This was up since last Saturday. I haven't seen it posted anywhere, so I threw this in the Sag & Rog thread. I'm expecting it to be ignored, so I'm posting it again here.
If you want to cut to the chase, jump to 2:57.

I think we've seen all the older characters that will be in the game. The rest I believe will be new with the exception of Akuma.

sweet lots of new characters! I love the old SF2 cast, but you can't call it SF4 without a lot of new characters (well realistically it should be mostly new characters, but we'll see).

I think 6-8 new characters will make it feel like a new game in comparison to SF2. I like most of the old characters that are returning but I am really interested to see who the new cast will be.

In one of the 1up first impressions (when they were first allowed to play), the guys said that during the debug screen they could see the entire ST roster listed.

Entire ST roster? That would not leave enough space in the character select screen for too many more new characters.

what makes you say that? theres enough room for plenty of characters. hell 32 characters, while very large, would not suprise me.

I've seen that artwork behind Ono plenty of times (who here hasn't?) but it doesn't look SFIV at all. O_o
I'm curious, what's it about and why is it considered SFIV artwork?

While 8 might be an OK number for new characters, I personally find 10 completely new characters to suffice.

Well, if they fit 32 characters there, they would have to redesign the screen or make the images smaller. This is not KOF 98.

Naaah beeeee. It's all about having 40 characters. Now that's KOF. 32 character is too Alpha 3 for me. Capcom shouldda took notes.

the way the development for this game is going, and the lack of creativity so far from the director ono, coupled with his past experience in games, it's looking more and more like this game will turn out to be the Street Fighter game that fans will regret ever happened.
not as much as the movie game, but more along the lines of capcom fighting jam.

Ono is the guy who was handed CFJ half way through production. He wasn't the one with the idea or the guy who orginally wanted to make the game. With him at the helm for all of SF4, and with how he talks in interviews makes me think he actually knows what he is talking about and he could create a good SF game (asethetic's aside).

There's no doubt in my mind that this will turn out to be a solid game series.
The first game is always shaky, but I don't think they'll just let it die like they did CFE even though that agme played better than 90% of games out there 9then again, so did SFEX and it didn't take).
The days of getting it right first try with FGs have been dead for a while.
I just think that it's going to be a bbit too oldschool to really bring in this new wave of fans. But online exposure could help. As well as all the hype...
Which is really all it takes these days.

Ono actually said "notice that the character screen is unbalanced, as you know Capcom has enough sense not leave it like that."
Most people are speculating the final roster will be 16.
so will it be:
Ryu, Ken, Guile, Blanka, E. Honda, Chun Li, Zangief, Dhalsim, Balrog, Sagat, C.Viper, Abel.
Vega/Claw? Akuma? {New Character}? Gouken?

Yes, at this point it's just speculation. Nothing is finalized at this time. Based on past interviews, Ono has said that he wants to try to bring everyone back. Does that simply mean everyone from SF2, or everyone in the whole franchise? No way to tell. He also hinted there'd be more females characters. Returning ones or new ones? And just last week, for this very interview, he said there'd be "lots of new characters" to satisfy hardcores, and 16 doesn't leave much room for a lot. There could be 20 characters for all we know, maybe more.
Just gotta wait and see. I know people are pissed that it's turning out like ST, but think of it like this: Would it really make any sense not to show the returning cast first?
Are_you_okay?!
03-05-2008, 04:02 PM
16 does seem constricting to what Ono has said, doesn't leave a lot of room for it. 18-20 would be a good number while still feeling small.
I don't see why so many people want Gouken, he reminds me of a shoto Santa. If Ono's thing would be right I assume the last four slots would be: One SF3 character (Most likely Alex), One Alpha character (Dan or Sakura), new character (Female to show lots of them, I guess), and Akuma (Fan service and he's mandatory these days).
But the 16 isn't set in stone, and even if it is I expect downloads for the systems anyways.

I kind of have a problem with this too, because they should just delay the game and flesh out all the ideas, characters etc, rather than having something significant to gameplay like extra characters that will divide the arcade players from the home players. Or they could patch the arcade version too, I don't know.
either way I'd rather have a complete game when I purchase it, rather than having to deal with multiple patches or dlc. I guess I'm old fashioned and I don't want to be nickel and dimed to death.

I think at this point, the hype machine could take a break and they just reveal the default roster. If Ono wants to keep the "console only" characters secret thats understandable to an extent. For the people that do like the game, I would figure with the release (tentative) being relatively close that the character roster would inflate a bit more than the current number. He should already know by now that the division has started and whoever is going to buy the game has pretty much already made that decision, and vice versa. Nonetheless, people love that hype so if it were up to him he wouldn't even announce any more characters and just release the game.
I understand how hype works, I just personally find it irritating.

i guess when you say i don't know shit about street fighter what you really mean is "hey, this guy just asked a valid question that annoys me because i am liking what i see so far. so instead of even thinking about what he said, i think ill just skip over that question and call him dumb cause he didn't say the name of a guy who every single street fighter fan on earth and their grandmother should know."
do i have to hold your hand?
SF4 shares too many similarities with EX. the reason i asked what will make the reaction to SF4 different than EX is because like so many others have said, if this game wasn't street fighter most folks wouldn't even give it the time of day and i really want to know. wasn't trying to be an ass. but i know there are a lot of little girls out there who wanna blow shit up when someone says somethin bad about "THEIR" street fighter.
anyway, if the popularity of the EX (i like EX as a SIDE series ) series says anything at all, it will be interesting to see how long if at all, SF4 will last.

It would be very naive to not expect console exclusive characters. There'll be some. Its not about delaying the game to add these characters, its to give the consoles some extra hype and value.
If you pay $40 for a game, then you expect more than a straight arcade port.

Imagine practicing with your favorite character so you can use him in a tournament, and when you go to a tournament, your favorite character has been cut from competitive play due to not being on arcades. That is one way that console exclusive characters would piss a lot of people off, arcade and console players.
If you spend $40 on the game, there is no logic in just expecting console exclusive characters. Maybe there will be extra characters, but by the time they come out, like many others are saying, the Arcade should get a patch.

Imagine the number of people playing competitively out of the number of people actually buying the game. Now imagine the number of competitions willing to buy $6000-$12000 arcade machines.
SFIV is more than likely going to be something big for Capcom, so it'll probably be pushed the whole 9 yards. Expansive online play, new characters, and all the other standards for the other million selling fighting games.

Your post/attitude towards opinions you do not agree with remind me of
Communist china and its attitude towards people with an opinion there. Well I am sure you have noticed but this is not china and you have no control over anyone Else's opinion. I guess all you really can do is cry and moan when anyone says something about the topic at hand that you don't like. I know it’s easier than just trying to think about the subject in more than one way. Don't worry though, your style is good for you as it fits with your shit personality and fucking horrible attempts at sounding smart. :wonder:
I know your tryin real hard to fit in n shit, but there is no need to insult me if i didn't insult you first you piece of shit. i wasn't even talking to you, it was a question for everyone. A simple question is more annoying than anything that's bothering you from my post. and I know why you didn't want to ask me why I think SFIV was like SFEX, because its easier to just fuck with people rather than have a real conversation with them. I know I diss this game like crazy, and that's because its not what I was expecting so far. that doesn't mean I won’t play it and give it a chance. That also means I won’t attack cock suckers like you who think differently about the game than I do.
Also, where did that Japanese comment come from? I have never overly supported anything or anyone from Japan so I challenge you to find anything where I scream out, "Japan is number one!" your comment let me know that you are either jealous of people living in Japan, got beat by people living in Japan, got turned down by some unknown Japanese woman, just either hate Japan or you just assumed that because I am located in Okayama and I'm living here that I must be one of those "the Japanese are number 1" types. Either way, you are wrong. not everyone is as fuckin retarded as you.:looney:
If you don't like my questions or my posts then just move on. I know it may be hard to stop the random attacks on people for no reason, but if you just sit back, relax and let Kuntaklysmic finish rubbing your balls and kissing your dick head, you might find it easier to do so.
