I, personally, was very underwhelmed when I saw who was revealed so far in SF4. Now, iIve heard argument after argument about how SF3 failed because it didn't feature the old cast.... didn't have enough memorable characters etc. etc...

I'm wondering... Why didn't SFA suffer the same fate? I mean, yeah, they brought back older characters eventually, but originally, even in Alpha 2, we were missing a number of original characters...

I know SF3 went extreme with removing older characters, but people are talking as if SF4 could have NO old school appeal without having all the original WW characters....

yeah....same here. this is turnin into a SF2 remake. I didn't really have a problem with the SF3 roster bcuz to me the only characters from the old cast that mattered were Ryu and Ken. The 3S cast is way cooler IMO. damn, why doesn't Capcom just make every1 happy and put every1 on SFIV with a few new characters. Tekken has been doin it for forever and still goin strong.

I would have no problem if ALL the SF2 characters were in this game if it featured something like 20+ characters. But like this with more than likely just 16 it's kinda fucked up. I want some new characters goddamit!

Because SFIII sucked. People actually played alpha, it was also a time when arcades still existed.

Your opinion.

My opinion SFIII is great.

But yes, SFA came out when arcades were still money making businesses.

Why is there any problem with having all the SF2 characters return if there are a reasonable number of new characters and new storyline that comes with them? It will just mean that there are more choices of characters for those who want it. And when there are more choice of characters, I think choice of the old characters is better than some new one.

How many of these damn threads have popped up? We need like a universal bitching thread for SFIV.

this is different, SF4 is near a 10 year wait from the last SF arcade game.

Back in the 90s, you always had an SF game nearly every year, SF2s, Alphas, EX, SF3s ect.

10 year wait is different, bigger

Its simple. Humans while having the ability to use logic and common sense cannot make sense of anything. Everything is black and white and no one can see shades of gray. Instead people see yellow and blue.

You see a cheese burger is called a cheese burger because it has cheese but a bacon cheese burger is called that because it has bacon and cheese. So if a burger has neither but instead lettuce and onions why isn't it called a lettuce and onion burger? Lettuce and onions are toppings/add flavor just like cheese and bacon.

There. Did that make any sense? Most likey...no. That's the SF4 boards for you.

That and its a mass of raging gay fanboys bitching anyway. "ZOMG!! Sakura might not be in SF4?!!!"

So yeah. SK... how bout that close thread?

SFA was more popular than SF3 when each was released. It also had more characters from SF2 than SF3 did. But more importantly, at the time Alpha and SF3 were coming out they were trying to break away from the tired re-hashes that all the SF2 variations were perceived of. The SF series was starting to get slammed for doing the same thing over and over, so SFA and SF3's roster was their way of making SF fresh again.

Today, most casual players have long since dismissed the series. So, the heavily SF2-based roster is being used as retro-chic to remind players of the good times they had back in the day and attempt to draw them back in. It's pretty simple really.

Why do they always say 10 years. They use that like an excuse.
what about CvS2? Was that not a SF arcade game?

I think the argument is that we've waited this long for a new game but instead we're getting another revision of an old game. 2 new characters isnt enough and dropping 1 or 2 old ones but keeping 8-10 original ones with the old fight mechanic with new graphics isnt a change, its a face lift. Just like HDRemix. They did that with the original SF2: IIRC cause I don't play ST as much, Hawk and Fei Long werent in there and neither was Cammy. Same game, 3 new characters. Thats what this is looking like.

And for the guy that said 3S sucked. Keep playing ST, thats your opinion. I know more than a few people however that refuse to play ST because they think it's bland and can't touch 3S.

SF3 kinda sucked. There is a difference between SF3 and 3rd Strike, though I'm sadly unsurprised when people don't know realize it.

Secondly, the only new characters in Alpha were, what, Charlie and Rose and Dan? Everyone else came from SF1, SF2, or Final Fight. Charlie was barely even new for fans of SF2, because they already knew who he was.

Also, Alphas > SF3 games.

I think for me it goes 3S, Alpha 3, Alpha 2, any version of SF2. Sorry but I can't play ST for too long.

I think that if they would've put Guy in the roster, or anyone from Alpha for that matter, and a person from 3S, or a few from each instead of the WHOLE cast from ST, it would be a better game.

Why was Alpha a success and SF3 a failure? Here's one reason:

They went from Guile to Charlie...... To Remy?!??!? Wtf. That's like you're smooth sailing... And then a big ass thunderstorm comes and tears away your ship. 3s' fighting system is probably one of the only reason I'm playing the game. Oh, and the artwork too.

Alpha 2 remains my fav SF game.

Basically, people will always find reasons to complain. I think that the only way Cacpom would please every single fan(That's 100%) is if they had every character, but that is never happening, because it would take too long. A good choice would be to balance ST, 3s, and SFZ characters all into the mix.

Also, I have to say: Wow, I never knew so many people hated SFIII. Have you guys ever played it? I used to hate it for not having an SFII cast, that was until I played it.

Thats what I'm sayin. Have a good mix from all of the series plus a few new characters.

And yeah, there's people who loathe 3rd strike just because of the parrying. More because of the character selection. I played it because I saw Ken, but I didn't play it because it HAD Ken and this was at a convention. I saw the character select screen and saw Ken and Ryu but didn't recognize the other characters, but I still played it despite not seeing Blanka, Dhalsim, Boxer, or anyone else. At that time I had been playing GG, CvS2, Marvel, and KOF and I wanted another SF... just didn't know it came out in 1999.

There are people who hate SFIII because parry killed their precious SRK. Apparently people on SRK can't AA w/out a SRK. Go figure.

I can only imagine the look of shock on their face."What?! I can't beat every jumpin with an SRK? Madness. Back to ST." What do they do if their character doesn't have an SRK? They have a mental block or something? And then people complain about shotos. And air blocking. Yes. Air blocking. That's like bitching someone blocked your attack."Oh noes!!! My attack was blocked?! IN the air?? Woe is me. This isn't SF at all!"

Hope you don't care too much about your green bars cause I got all red ones for bringin this up before. Thats so... boring. Spaming hadous then SRK to me is as bad as a Marvel infinite with Mag. And just as boring. At least with parrying, you have a good match. You actually have to move around and do DIFFERENT things other than spam 1 move. You have to do more when someone shoves that SRK back in your face. And not everyone can parry it, I know I had a hard time doing it at first but as soon as I parried my friend's, who is much better than me at the game, he was like "WTF" and was forced to do something about it, which he said made it much more enjoyable of a match because he actually had to DO something.

But back to the topic:

The roster, as it stands, costumes and all, is just like the strategy: Boring. Just like capcom2d.com's friend, no one ive showed so far is impressed nor more drawn to it than they were before.
