It's funny to think that with video games being a every growing and financially huge industry that we are going to enter an era where children are going to grow up with video games being a larger part of their childhood than ours. The only kid on the block to own a Sega Master System is suddenly replaced with everyone on the block having at least one form of console or gaming system with perhaps more than a handful having 2 or more systems. In some way this idea of video game history interests me because now that I'm a bit older; we as older gamers are getting this new influx of remakes, revisions and re-releases of the games we grew up with much like how the gamers of the 80's are getting released "Arcade Collections" a few years ago. This is a great thing to have access to all these games at the expense of feeling a bit more aged but it's this kind of history that affecting a lot of us now which makes me think about my own gamer history or "resume" for that matter.

So this thread is to explore the idea of your own gamer history and how it crafts how you play games and your tastes. As much as I like all of you guys here, I'm probably going to be very interested to see how the younger generation is turning out without the 8-bit and 16-bit era touching their lives.

Current and Past Consoles owned with approx age and short notes

Atari 2600 Age 5-7(?): I was very young at the time so I didn't know how it appeared in my hands. It was definitely my brother's and the only thing that I remember is Beserk/Frenzy on it. Everything else was a blur. The only other thing I remember was a Atari pamphlet of a video game which was a mini-comic of a game which was really REALLY cool looking at the time. Involving a chick infiltrating the good-guys HQ by sliding under a closing door.
Sega Master System age 7-8: Still very young but it's peculiar that as a Nintendo fan I started out with a Sega. Not many games, but I loved the box art at the time. Simple, the gridlines were fantastic and I love minimal art; not so much clutter. The standout memory (since my family's business rented out the consoles) is that we'd often get the bum copy of the system where one controller "down" direction didn't work. There were a LOT of games of wrestling where we just had to fight on the top part of the ring which was lame.
Nintendo Entertainment System: Fun as fuck. Possibly the largest library of games that I ever had at any given time.
Super Nintendo
Gameboy:
Virtual Boy: Stand out memory; we rented it and the foam around the eye ended up smelling of cigarette smoke.
Nintendo 64
Playstation: As with many other FF fans, I jumped boat just so I can play the darn FF7. Didn't buy much else afterward, in fact I think my entire PS1 collection could be counted on one hand. MGS1, SF2 Collection (with SFA2 Gold), FF7, SFEX+@, FFT.
GBA SP: Not that the GBA didn't interest me, I borrowed a friend's and loved it. However the SP was far too good a lure to not buy it. Ebay'd it and spent a good solid 2 days trying to get an awesome deal on a GBA SP + some games. It was a pretty good deal overall.
Playstation 2: I bought this years after it was released at a pawn shop. The only reason I did it was to spite a friend who owned a PS2 and said that I couldn't have an opinion about PS2 games because I don't even own the system.
Nintendo DS Slim: Learning from Nintendo's handheld history, I waited it out for a DS redesign to come out. Screw you Nintendo.
Nintendo Wii: Probably the first system I bought more out of peer pressure than personal want to own the system.

The Grass is Greener on the other side: Instances of borrowing, playing and sharing other gamer's systems

For a lot of us the only avenue of playing a game is making friends with the rich kids who could afford it. In this section it should highlight some moments when you got to play a system that you didn't personally own via someone you knew.

Genesis: Really envious of anyone who had one. It was black, it was sleek, it just looked like the rebel version of the Nintendo. The advertising worked for me, I wanted to own one but never had the means to get it. My older brother's friend would have brought it over twice and left it at our house once where I played the SHIT out of Shinobi 2. It was seriously the biggest case of "grass is greener on the other side" syndrome that I had with this console more than any other.
X-Box: My brother owned it for a time. We had 2 late night sessions of playing Halo to finish. Other than that there wasn't much that I played on there. CvS2 some other games that he owned which never panned out. He only brought it home for the holidays so it was short lived. When I stayed with him for a visit I played GTA3 and Vice City with short lived interest since it was only a visit. Nothing special for me.
X-Box 360: Owned by my friend which was fun for some visits. Nothing especially great but it looked nice on his HDTV.
Nintendo Wii: Funny story about this. My friend bought a Wii and set it up at my place. He had exams so he kept it at my place for a month until he finished them. I just basically twilight princessed it for that time and returned it to him later and ended up buying my own months later.

Arcade Experience

Just a neat little question to ask everyone before we get into the rest of the resume.

1) Were you alive and sentient (aka not a toddler button smasher) to have played SF2:WW when it first came out? What age were you?
2) If not did you catch the SF popularity wave with the subsequent console releases?

1) Yes. Around 11 I think.
2) Also yes.

But for me arcades were a time when I would walk an hour just to get to the arcade and play perhaps 2-3 games of SSF2 when I got the chance. Strider was the most stand out memory for me in arcades because it was possibly the coolest fucking game on the planet that I only had access to at this arcade when I went to visit my grandpa. I was pretty up to date with arcade games up until it got a bit more modern and lame with the Terminator shooter. After that it just fell off and by the time I went back to arcades, most of the games were antiquated or racers that I had no interest in. The last real game that I went to an arcade to play was MK3

PC game history

I was around for the 3.5 floppy era of shareware and demos in the late 80's which I played the shit out of because really for 3-5 bucks might as well. Wolfenstein managed to run on our store computer, as did the Hugo adventure series. Not much kept my interest after that because we just didn't upgrade. Stand out moment was playing Duke Nukem 3D online which blew my mind that I was actually fighting against another real person at the time. Now I've got peer pressured into playing WoW which has me spending about an hour here and there each day.

Gaming Preferences (short list to be added upon)

Here's where you get to participate. Basically I'll give out a question and the next poster will add 1 question to the section. I guess I'll start with the most obvious one.

Your all time favorite console: Mine would have be the SNES. Truly the golden era of gaming where it was the peak of 2D gaming design, where I was most involved with gaming at least with one single console. I anticiapted my Nintendo Power each and every month (back when it was still actually good) and it was possibly the best gaming years I've had. IMHO Nintendo and Sega represented everything about console gaming at the time; a more naive and innocent time where all we got were games and little to no regard to the bullshit politics behind the company aspect. While it wasn't my first console I'd say it's the one that most defines me as a gamer in general.

Your least favorite console (that you own) of all time (Septimus Prime): Virtual Boy. I wouldn't say I hated it like everyone else said. I mean I often look past bad things to see the good in others but Virtual Boy really was a disappointment. Most of the systems I own I don't have a problem with.

Preferred genre and several games that fall in that genre and why it appeals to you (Scum Gale 88):

RPGs: A definite must. I love RPGs especially FF and a lot of it associated with it. Didn't go off the beaten trail for mainstream but I love good storytelling and in depth battle systems. It's kind of funny because on my R4 for the DS I just have so many non-action games it's not even funny.

Fighters: Of course which basically also defines part of my sense of humour in video games. SF, KoF are the main ones but I'm up to trying any and all fighters even shitty 3D ones like War Gods or Mace. A fighter, there's just something so satisfying with winning a round against anyone and anything.

Platformers and Adventure: Mario and Zelda made me love games in general. It lead me to other platforming games and made me appreciate good game design such as SOTC.

favorite game of all-time (tsukihimeblood): Tough question. I think the most talked about and played is FF6. I'm passionate about that game but it's not like I bring it up every single time. It's hard to think what is the most favorite since there are so many fighters that also take up my time as well. But I'd say FF6 is at least the one I'm most interested in finding out information about.

Current and Past Consoles owned with approx age and short notes

NES, Age: 5-8: I actually owned two of these. The first broke for no apparent reason. I had a good amount of games too, as well as one of those "700 in 1" carts from Asia. Ah, good times.
Gameboy, Age: 6-like 16: I never did buy Gameboy Pocket or Gameboy Color. I guess that was around the time I figured out Nintendo's scheme with making you rebuy the same shit over and over.
Super Nintendo, Age: 9-ish: I loved this. One of my first games was Street Fighter II: World Warrior, complete with a custom stick. And, though I played some earlier iterations of games like Final Fantasy, the SNES was the console that got me into the series with FF IIe/IVj, which is still my favorite of the series.
SEGA Game Gear, Age: ??: This piece of shit was the only SEGA I've ever owned or ever will own. I happened to buy this about a month before SEGA decided to kill off its own handheld by releasing Nomad (which is surprisingly close to Game Gear's launch date). Fuck that shit. Never again.
Sony PlayStation, Age: 11 or 12: I actually wanted to get an "Ultra 64" at first, but I ended up getting impatient and buying into Sony's little magic box. My gamble apparently paid off in spades with all the great games that were coming. Heck, I bought the thing before they even announced FFVII because I thought Toshinden, Jumping Flash (JETRO!), and Rayman were awesome.
PS one, Age: 16: I ended up giving my PSX away, and I wasn't sure I was going to get a PS2, so I ended up with one of these.
PlayStation 2, Age: 16: This was also my first DVD player.
Gameboy Advance, Age: 16, thereabouts: Okay, I guess I failed to pick up Nintendo's scheme. I pretty much got this just for Castlevania, but I ended up picking up a good amount of games as time rolled by.
GBA SP, Age: 17: Fuck. I needed the light, man!
Gamecube, Age: 18 or 19: I got this for a few games, I think. Bomberman was one of them. I got it cheap, too.
PS2 Slim, Age: 19: Yeah, my PS2 started to not work so well after a few years.
Sony PSP, Age: 20: I love this thing. When I'm not playing games on it, I use it as my MP3/car audio system. The few games it does have all rock, too.
Nintendo DS, Age: 20 or so: Again, I got it for Castlevania. I eventually picked up quite a number of games for it, though.
Nintendo Wii, Age: 22: Look. We all make mistakes, okay? It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Sony PlayStation 3, Age: 22: This is arguably the best $600 I've ever spent, and it's, by far, the best console I've ever owned. It does EVERYTHING, and it's also my Blu-ray player. The only "weakness" is that it isn't portable, but that's why they made PSP.

The Grass is Greener on the other side: Instances of borrowing, playing and sharing other gamer's systems

SEGA Master System: I'm not sure whose I borrowed, but this got me into videogames in the first place.
SEGA Genesis: I didn't really like it. I wanted to see if I was missing out on much. I wasn't.
SEGA Saturn: Again, I didn't really like it.
SEGA Dreamcast: I still don't dig the controller, but it has Marvel, so yeah. But yeah, that's about it.
Xbox: I had a friend in high school who was a friend of J Allard's, so he got a free Xbox on launch day. We traded consoles for a few weeks so I could see what all the hype with Halo was about, and I, again, didn't really like it. I've played Xbox games for work-related stuff a few times before, too, but those games were honestly not very good either.

Arcade Experience

I've played arcades for freaking forever now. Way back in the day, I was the little kid beating the teenagers at World Warrior. I was also lucky enough to be visiting Hong Kong when Turbo was first released, so I got to try that out early, back in the old golden age of arcades.

Then I took a long break and didn't get back into it until SC2 and 3S.

PC game history

I don't really play PC games.

Gaming Preferences (short list to be added upon)

Your all time favorite console: I have to go with PS3. IT DOES EVERYTHING, and it does it all well. I honestly didn't buy into the Blu-ray hype until I actually watched one on my PS3, and man, is it amazing. But, aside from that, it also has a bunch of great gamesm backwards compatibility (with upscaling), PSP remote play, movie capability, online capability (with browser), audio playback (with upsampling), and probably a bunch of features on the way. It also happens to be one of the best Blu-ray and DVD players on the market. I mean, damn.
Your least favorite console (that you own) of all time: Wii. What a stupid, boring piece of crap.

hmm, not sure how I should start. I wish all resumes were like this.

Current and Past Consoles owned with approx age and short notes

Sega Genesis: 6- present
I remember when I first got this wonderful machine for my birthday. I go to the kitchen and they give me a few presents, I got a couple power rangers and....GENESIS (with sonic 2) and some wireless controllers that didnt work for shit. but it was a school day so I had to wait until I got home, had dinner and cake with the family, and THEN hook it up and play. being of such a young age and games being fairly expensive my parents usually rarely bought me new games unless it was a special occasion. I remember my grandma would take me to funcoland and she would buy me a couple used games if I did chores and whatnot (best grandma EVERRR).
Im pretty proud of the games I did have though, sonic 1,2,3,&K,spinball and 3D blast, streets of rage 1 and 2, golden axe 1 and 2, street fighter 2 (my first fighting game!), revenge of shinobi, columns, and even shit like bubsy and aero the acrobat. I still have my genesis, only its hella dirty and Ive been meaning to clean everything.

Gameboy Pocket/Color: 7 or 8, cant remember for certain
I was at...EB games at a mall and they had this ice blue game boy, my grandma got it for me as an early birthday present and I bought star wars and donkey kong land with my own money. they were fun but I needed something...more. I got a used copy of mario land 2 and I played that shit FOREVER, made many long car rides into very short ones. I also enjoyed links awakening and battle arena toshinden. the only color game I really played was pokemon silver which owned my soul.

Dreamcast: 11-present
I had asked for it, I knew I was getting it. I remember playing Sonic Adventure in the stores, but it was only the demo with emerald coast. I had NEVER been so hyped for anything gaming related in my entire life. like, the hype I had for the Dreamcast has yet to be matched. Dreamcast was so fresh and so new, it looked lightyears better than anything the ps1 or N64 could do. It was very sleek looking and the red swirl was such a cool symbol. I opened it up, I got a dreamcast, I got sonic adventure and an extra controller and a memory card. Everything was hooked up and the whole family was hyped about it so they all gathered around the tv (the last system we had was the genesis so this was a damn big step up) and we were blown the fuck away. I love my Dreamcast arcade stick with a slippery wet passion! AND THEYRE STILL MAKING GAMES FOR IT!! its like the dreamcast is giving the current generation the finger! "I may only get 2 new games a year, but theyre still better than Assassins Creed ya wee bugger!"

Xbox: dont remember, probably 14 or 15- present
I remember getting it for christmas with DOA3 and that simpsons crazy taxi game. Xbox was overall pretty disappointing compared to the AMAZING library of games I had for dreamcast. it just couldnt compete with that beautiful gray box. it did however excel for its handful of unique sega games (Panzer Dragoon Orta, JSRF, Gun-Valkyrie) and for its capcom fighters and ass ton of SNK games. too many FPS and Tom Clancy games for my tastes.

Gamecube 18-present
DS 18-present
Wii 19-present
got the gamecube very very late in its lifespan to play the games I missed out on. mario sunshine, tales of symphonia, Wind Waker, Smash Bros,Viewtiful Joe, and Ikaruga. to hell with getting MK Double Dash, Im not paying $30 for a 5 year old game thats not even rare or anything. gamecube is there, its a system, I like it. nothing terribly special about it.
Me and a friend were hyped the fuck out for the Wii, we went to walmart and waited 16 fucking hours in what was probably 30 degree weather with a nasty windchill. thank god EVERYONE in line was awesome, one woman was getting it for her grandson and bought everyone in line pizza! (there was only about 15 people in line and we all chipped in for it too), plus everyone was really cool and we could go into the store and warm up. me and my friend ended up playing Guitar Hero 2 for like 3 hours. some asshole tried to cut in line. and we got our Wiis at midnight. I was so excited/tired. I use the virtual console more than anything on there.
DS is fun, quite a few excellent games for it, not much has to be said. Got it on my birthday with Mario Kart. awesome!

Arcade Experience
I used to play metal slug X and 3 at this one arcade all the time. But all the good arcades I used to go to are actually all still in buisness....only with newer gimmick games (DDR, prize games, etc) and less...you know...good games. the only fighting game I ever see is fucking Tekken and the only SF2 and KOF machines I find have busted ass controls (except this one KOF98 cabinet, I played against this mexican kid who was playing with his arms crossed....I lost so bad). to this day, I think my favorite arcade experiences are when I got my ass handed to me in 3rd Strike, playing and beating the 6 player X-Men game with my friend and 4 other people, and beasting through L.A. Machine Guns with both guns. I LOVE THAT GAME! this one roller rink I went to had Virtua Fighter 2 and Raiden (my first shmup!:lovin:)
so yeah, I would go to arcades more if they kept their shit in check. nothing but dance games, tekken, and actual fun games that have broken controls (oddly, metal slug always plays perfectly).

PC Game History
I play the internet and pron. thats about it, oh, and Croc:Legend of the Gobbos.

Gaming Preferences (short list to be added upon)

1. All Time Favorite Gaming Console
duh, Sega muhfuckin DREAMCAST! It was literally overflowing with games from every genre I love- fighting, shmups, action, talking man/fish simulators. amazing graphics for its time, nice controller, best arcade stick ever, vmu was cool, soooo many great games. It was one of those rare consoles that took risks and had tons of niche games. seaman? what company but Sega (pre-sonic heroes) would have the balls to release that game? Everything about the Dreamcast gives me this warm fuzzy feeling. I cant praise that stupid gray box of awesome enough for all the great memories its given me.

2. Your least favorite console (that you own) of all time
Xbox, fuck that dumb giant block. I mostly use it to just watch dvds. aside from the SNK games, fighters, and a select few games (previously mentioned Sega games, Max Payne 1 and 2, Ninja Gaiden,MGS2,Shenmue 2) what is there? shitty FPS games and more shitty racing games. fuck you Xbox, you piss me off.
I was originally going to put the Wii on here but the virtual console, NMH, and Brawl save it from mediocrity.

3. Preferred genre and several games that fall in that genre and why it appeals to you
Fighting-Super Turbo, 3rd Strike, Real Bout Fatal Fury, Mark of the Wolves, JOJO, KOF XI.
+Im a very competitive person whom hates real life sports.

Shooter- Ikaruga, Twinklestar Sprites, Metal Slug series, Gunstar, M.U.S.H.A., Giga Wing 1 and 2, Contra, Radilgy, Raiden.
+I like to test my reflexes and learn from my mistakes and feel the satisfaction of victory....to hear the lamentations of their women!

Puzzle- Panel de Pon, Pokemon Trozei (sue me!), Tetris, PUZZLE FIGHTER.
+a mixture of the reasons I gave for fighters and shooters, to increase my reaction time and skill. great for multiplayer as well as testing myself.

Special Achievements
-beat Metal Slug 1 without continuing

I aploligize for the obscenely long post...

Consoles

- SNES: age 5. My grandparents bought me a snes for christmas when I was 5. My first games were Mario World, Super Empire Strikes Back, and Mario Paint. I eventually picked up around 300 total cartridges for this thing.

- Sega Genesis: age 6. I bought this mainly for the NHL series, Sonic the Hedgehog, and random action games. I eventually collected at least a hundred cartridges and six systems (2 Genesis 1s, 1 genesis 2, 1 genesis 3, and 2 nomads). I also had a sega CD and later got a 32x for free.

- Gameboy: age 7. I bought it for Tetris, Zelda, and Metroid.

- Sega Saturn: age 7 for god knows why. I eventually picked up about 20 games for it.

- N64: age 8. I owned every game worth owning for this thing (not many)

- PS1: age 8-9. I own about 50 games for this thing. A lot of them are REALLY shitty.

- NES: age 9-11. I bought this for Zelda and eventually acquired a large collection of games. I now never use my toaster NES and instead use an AV Famicom.

- GB Color: age 10. The only games I have are R-TYPE DX, Dragon Warrior 1+2, DW III, Cannon Fodder, and Shantae.

- Dreamcast: age 12. I bought this for Hydro Thunder and Soul Calibur. my dc eventually crapped out on me. I recently bought another and am rediscovering it through teh interwebs.

- PS2: age 12. Best overall system ever. I eventually bought a slim.

- GB Advance: age 12. Metroidvania games.

- Xbox: age 15. Morrowind, Ninja Gaiden, KOTOR, and Jade Empire.

- Xbox 360: age 18. Oblivion. I also bought the PC version of Oblivion for mods.

- PS3 and Wii: sometime this year. PS3 first though.

PC

My first game was Doom. I have been playing PC games hardcore ever since but have backed off in the last few years.

Arcades

I have no idea when I played my first arcade game. I must have been about 3. My favorite genre was beat 'em ups. Now it is fighting games. I started playing SF casually at Super and only started playing semi-seriously last year.

Most Hated Systems/Games

- Game Gear. I never bought this piece of shit but I played it at my friends' houses. It was shitty. Remember the commercial where the guy is hit with a dead squirrel until he sees colors? I would rather have that done to me than play Game Gear.
- Shaq Fu. I actually got this as a birthday gift. I returned it. The person who gave me it was no longer my friend.

Favorite Systems/Games

- PS2. Unmatched library
- Chess. I like chess. It is fun.

Great resume and long posts is what this thread is all about. It's neat to think that you have such a huge ass drought between the gaming system upgrade of Genesis to DC that with most of us as we progressed; updated to the next gen at least within that generation. Must've been pretty damn hard to hear about all these other games coming out while you had to basically skip a generation.

oh it was pretty awkward. I would go to a friends house and they had as ps1 or a 64 and they asked what kind of games I had and I felt silly saying "well I have a genesis", real outdated for 1998. but it didnt bother me, Im not the kind of person who JUST HAS TO HAVE the newest consoles. I would like new consoles but it isnt the end of the world if I dont get it. I remember asking for a sega cd and got the "maybe for your birthday" excuse, never happened. then saturn came out and I played Nights at toys r us and I KNEW I had to have that system, one of the few times I really wanted a new console. I asked for it, "maybe for christmas". never got it (still upset about that to this day). I didnt really care for ps1 and I kinda wanted a 64 but the controller was pure ass and that killed it for me.

so yeah, a combination of not having enough money mixed with lies from your parents mixed with me just being really damn picky ultimately prevented me from keeping up with what was new and shiny. but I guess it doesnt matter, the DC is like my gaming soul mate. and that made the wait totally worth it.

before I got the wii I thought I was going to have another drought, skipped ps2, skipped 360, skipped PS3. well, not skipped, but I probably wont intend on buying them for at least another year or 2 and even then it just wont feel very special.

Yeah, nothing like paying for ROMs to make a system worthwhile.

Forgot what age I was for each, but here goes:

- Atari 2600

- NES

- Gameboy

- Sega Master System

- Turbo Grafx 16

- Genesis

- SNES

- Sega CD

- Neo Geo AES

- PSX

- Saturn

- N64

- DC

- PS2

- XBOX

- GC

- 360

- Japanese PS2

- PS3

- PSP

All are gone except the Genesis/Sega CD, both PS2s, PSP, PS3, and the GC. All are hooked up and get used except the GC which I only keep due to having all the Resident Evils including the renake and Zero conveniently on one system. It's more like a RE machine than a GC. The Neo Geo AES went once I got enough import fighters on the Japanese PS2 to replace it, just need the Samurai shodown Collection now to have everything I had on the Neo Geo. Everything else I got rid of because they were collecting dust, sucked, or both.

Current and Past Consoles owned with approx age and short notes

Age 5-7

Dont know what's it called: Its some kind of computer thing but instead of floppy you insert cartridge games...The games we got were Pac man, Dig Dug, & Galaga...We had to use the keyboard & i'm not sure if you could use a controller or not...

Age 8-11
Famicom : I remember playing a Dragon Ball game on this at a friends house when i was living in Japan...Dragon Ball, Robotech & Fist North Star were like the main cartoons at the time...Eventually when we moved to Panama we ended up getting this as our first main system. Got the Dragon ball, Robotech, & FotNS as first games. We had about 13 games total...Game most played was Mike Tyson Punchout/Super Mario...

Nintendo Entertainment System: The AC adapter broke from our famicom so we ended up going to friends house to play his commodore 64...One day when i came home we got this brand new NES system w/gun...Had Mario/Duck Hunt. Duck Hunt was fun but my parents never bought us another game for the NES. I ended only getting 3 more games as gifts Defender of the Crown, Bad Dudes, & Tecmo Bowl...

Age 12-15
Super NintendoAfter the whole Noriega fiasco in Panama, we moved to the US...Parents end up buying us SNES to make up for losing our friends again. Again our parents bought us the system but no games besides Super Mario World. We mostly rented our games, had to walk about 10 miles in the rain to the nearest Homevideo Express...My first Rpg experience Final Fantasy II, still my fav.

Sega Genesis/Sega CD:I think i got the Genesis for my B-day. I dont think this came w/game...Parents never bought us a game again. So i mostly rented as most of my friends only had SNES. My fav game was either Gunstar Heroes, Street of Rage 2, or E. Holyfield boxing. My bro ended up getting the Sega CD for his B-day. I convince mom that it was a CD-player too that's why its so expensive...I think it came w/ some Sherlock Holmes mystery game. Again they never bought us a game, mostly rented...I remember the sound being so good in Final Fight CD...
3D0: I traded my SNES & Sega Genesis/CD for this to a classmate. I was just blown away from the graphics & it was just way too expensive to buy at the time...I think it was like $600...I had about 20 games total including Samurai Showdown & Super Street Fighter II Turbo...It was good system although i do miss the systems i traded it for...Never did get a chance to play those XXX rated games though

Age 15-19
Playstation Got this when if first came out, WTF no games came with it. Again my parents did not buy a game. Our first & only game we bought was Final Fantasy VII on release day. Other then FF VII the only memory i had w/PSX was installing a mod chip & burning games. I had a bunch of burn games but never played them.
Sega Saturn: I got this for Christmas at least this came w/ 3 games Daytona,Virtua Fighter2, & Virtua Cop...This was a cool system probably my most played. Guardian Heroes, Dragon Force, Sega Bomberman, & Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV were probably my most played US game...I then decided to do my first importing & that was Marvel Super Heroes, then came Fire Pro 6 Man Scramble, & of course X-men vs Street Fighter...
Nintendo 64: My bro ended up getting Nintendo 64 for Christmas when i got the Saturn...The 64 had no games that came with it, my bro was big KI fan & wanted to pick up KI gold...I remember this day well cuz it was a huge snow storm & no power for 3 days. My worse experience would probably be Superman 64...Did not care for this system at all
Dreamcast: The first system i bought with my own money. Graphics were just too good... I experience my first online console gaming w/ Chu Chu Rocket...
The 2K sports titles were the best i've ever played but other then that i didn't really care for any of the games. You had to pretty much import to get the good ones. After the Dreamcast i pretty much stop gaming from console to arcade...

Age 20 -23
Neo Geo Pocket: Never had a portable system so i decided to check this out. My first game was SNK vs Capcom & man was i blown away...Its too bad no one i knew had this...

Age 23-Present
Playstation 2: My wife bought me a modded PS2. I was pretty much done with video games but i was still huge fan of basketball & wanted to play NBA 2K series. Of course i had to get the fighting games...Like the PS i mostly burned games but hardly played them after the first few tries...Its currently hooked up to my arcade cabinet (http://pic19.picturetrail.com/VOL1102/3826519/8068073/264941624.jpg) w/ Hard Drive mostly fighting games & light gun games

Age 25-Present
Xbox My co-workers kept on boasting about the xbox...Despite me not even liking any of the games i decided to get it...I went all out & bought a pimped out version (http://pic19.picturetrail.com/VOL1102/3826519/8068073/106971677.jpg)...I was right the games were garbage but damn is this a good multi media player plus the emulators weren't to shabby too :wgrin: This is also connected to my arcade cabinet to play emulators & karaoke Revolution games...

Age 26-Present
Xbox 360: I heard Street Fighter Hyper Fighting was going to be online so i picked this up for it...Hyper fighting, NBA2k, & COD were the only games i played...360 actually has lots quality titles but the system is a faulty piece of shit...

Gamecube: I was late in getting this...Actually has quite few decent games. I bought a lot of games really cheap. My daughter loves this system, she mostly plays Winnie the Pooh & Super Smash Bros.

DS Lite: My bro got the phat version & i heard a new one was coming out. I actually play my DS/PSP more then my home consoles. Its just much easier to pick up & play. I have 3 DS lites...

Age 28 - Present
Playstation 3: I thought this was a piece of shit at first but i'm starting to like it. It was a $600 paperweight until recently. Blu ray is nice too...Still waiting for some good games though...

PSP: I heard you can play emulators & stuff so i picked it up...Good invest as i play it all the time...

Wii: Besides watching movies & intercourse...This the other activity i do with my asian wife. She actually plays this more then i do.

I actually still have most of my old systems (http://pic19.picturetrail.com/VOL1102/3826519/9543479/135441410.jpg)...

The Grass is Greener on the other side: Instances of borrowing, playing and sharing other gamer's systems
My grass was always greener then everyone else. I was the guy with all the systems...Just no games!

Arcade Experience
For me i grew up going to the arcades when i was little...I think age 6 or 7. I would go through my mom's purse & find loose change...I then go out of the base & checkout all the cool arcades Japan had to offer...As for Street Fighter i was still a button mashing scrub when it first came out...During this time there were 2 arcades South Sound Mall & Capital Mall...I mostly went to South Sound since it was the closest one to the house. At this time bloods & crips were pretty big & most of them played SFII...I really never did get a chance to play it cuz it was always packed...When i did play i would actually lose in purpose to prevent getting my ass beat from some thug. So i decided to practice my game at a pizza joint that no one goes too...

My most memorable moment at the arcade was when Marvel vs Street Fighter came out...I went to Capital Mall since South South was closed already...The peeps their didn't really know me...Anyway i came in & completely dominated the competition...I had like 34 wins in a row with Dhalsim/Gief...The word "cheap" came out a lot, lots of threats too...It was great, i played until closing...

When i decided to finally get back into gaming, i tried out Marvel vs Capcom 2...WTF man i got my ass handed by some kid who barely reach the controller...:mad:I was like fuck this broken ass game! So now i just mostly play classic 2d fighters online...

PC game history

The only PC game i played was Solitaire & Civilization games

Gaming Preferences (short list to be added upon)

Your all time favorite console:

I think it would probably be the SNES also...When Street Fighter II Turbo came out we played 36hrs straight...I remember how mad my mom was cuz my bro & i had blisters in our thumbs...Also during that time i actually took the time to play the games & beat it...

Current and Past Consoles owned with approx age and short notes

* Atari 2600: I don't remember at all how old I was when I had this, indicating that I was very young. I remember playing the superman game and thinking it was amazing. That's about all for my memories of that.

* Sega Genesis(8-10 I think): My first experience with fighting games. I have fond memories of my dad trying to teach me the motion on the controller to do a dragon punch. Street Fighter was definitely my favorite game at this point in my life. Sonic games were also the business. There was a racing game on here that I played but I can't recall the name of it; Top Gear or something like that?

* Nintendo Entertainment System(Not sure of age): What can I say about the NES? Zelda, FF, Mario Brothers, Duck Hunt, the olympic games one with the running mat. Lots of good memories.

* Super Nintendo: Had a SNES, don't really remember playing it all that much. I liked my Genesis the most.

* Nintendo 64: 64 was pretty awesome. Smash Brothers, Mario Kart, Ocarina of Time, the list goes on. One of my favorite all-time systems.

* Playstation: I had a playstation, but I didn't get on the rpg train like everyone else. I mostly played stuff like Tomb Raider and Twisted Metal. Oh man, I played the hell out of Twisted Metal. Would have friends come over and we would just play it non stop. Such good times.

* Sega Saturn: I actually ended up trading my Playstation for this at some point. My friend had one and it was my first experience of grass is greener on the other side. There was this MLB game on it that I enjoyed playing quite a bit, although the name escapes me atm. Kinda regretted trading the old PS but I learned my lesson after that.

* Game Gear: Oh this thing was the business. I remember riding the bus to school and making fun of all the little twerps that couldn't play their Gameboy because it was dark. Sonic, the simpsons' games. This thing made me look forward to riding the bus to school everyday. Too bad it took a small fortune to sustain the batteries for this thing. That thing ate batteries like Magnetix posts about dicks.

* Xbox: Heh, the xbox. Unlike alot of people, I opted to get an xbox over the ps2. Halo, Ninja Gaiden, Prince of Persia. I liked my xbox. It was actually funny how I obtained it. I actually had an extremely nice Yu-Gi-Oh collection at the time. I had alot of rare stuff that was in high demand so once I was tired of the game I actually made trades for real shit I wanted. Including my xbox.

* GBA SP: Another thing I obtained through trading Yu-Gi-Oh cards. Bunch of suckers. Played lots of Mario World, Pokemon and the likes. Liked Game Gear more!

* Dreamcast: What is there to say about the DC? One of the most underrated consoles of all time in my opinion. Had the best fighting games, and tons of other good games as well. I pirated so many games on this; I had around 650 or so DC games before I got tired of pirating them. MvC2, CvS2, SC, 3rd Strike, oh man, too good.

* Gamecube: Got my Gamecube fairly cheap from a friend. He was looking to get rid of his, it was platinum and had 4 controllers so I jumped all over that crap. He wanted some Yu-Gi-Oh cards so I traded some + a little bit of cash and ended up getting it for about 30 dollars cash minus the cards that I didn't care about in the first place. Mostly just played Smash Brothers Melee on this, which was fine for me. I still play Smash Brothers with all my friends and we play it competitively. Really good game for having alot of friends over.

* Nintendo DS: My most recent system, I haven't gotten any of the new systems just because I haven't had enough interest in them. With my PC and DS, I'm pretty happy with that. The DS is probably my favorite system(tied with Dreamcast,) it has pretty much everything I could want. Being able to pirate games with R4 increases the aweomeness that is the DS. I opted to get the gold DS lite that game with the zelda bundle. Gold Triforce on the front. It's ballin'. Pokemon Pearl owns my soul atm, along with Trauma Center, Mario Kart DS, and Bleach: Blade of Fate.

The Grass is Greener on the other side:

* Sega Saturn: As I already stated, I was jealous of my friend that had this. I eventually traded him my Playstation for it and found out that it wasn't that good of a trade for me.

* Xbox 360: Kind of jealous of anyone who has a 360 because there seems to be alot of good games on it. One thing that puts me off about it is the fact that they always seem to break. Ring of death is no joke.

Arcade Experience

1) Were you alive and sentient (aka not a toddler button smasher) to have played SF2:WW when it first came out? What age were you?

2) If not did you catch the SF popularity wave with the subsequent console releases?

1) Yes. Not sure how old I was, pretty young. I do remember playing it at the local Tilt thought.

2) Also yes.

My arcade history isn't much of one. I rarely ever went to the arcade just because there wasn't much of an arcade scene here. Also the fact that I had consoles at home; my parents weren't all that keen on shelling out even more money to go somewhere to play games when I could do them in my room. Gauntlet was alot of fun though.

PC game history

My PC gaming history is kinda scattered. First pc gaming experience was Oregon Trail. Lots of fun, fucking oxen always drowning and jewing you. There was also a Sim City type game but with Dinosaurs. I don't remember what it was called but I had so much fun playing that. All of this was at school though, I never had a PC at home until around 14 or so. Once I got my first PC though.. I played alot of Starcraft. After Starcraft I got into mmos such as Ragnarok Online, then from RO I went to WoW, Lineage 2, etc. I'm not a big fan of mmos anymore, too much like a career. Now I stick to playing Starcraft again and Team Fortress 2. Oh and if you were to come into my room you'd likely see my DS on my desktop with Pokemon Pearl open, waiting in the lobby for the likes of Ephidel, Infernoman, Guru, and others to come online.

Gaming Preferences

1. Your all time favorite console: Eh, this is a tough choice between my Genesis and Dreamcast. Genesis has so many fond memories of the good parts of my childhood that make it seem like it really wasn't all THAT bad(/emo.) Then on the other hand; Dreamcast got me into fighting games. Without the Dreamcast I wouldn't be on SRK, I wouldn't have met a ton of awesome people that I've grown to know as my best friends. I'm just gonna be a pussy and call it a tie.

2. I think there needs to be honorable mention for favorite handhelds just because I enjoy my DS so much. Thing is sweet! Everyone should get one.

Thanks alot OC. Good thread, brought back some good memories.

================================================== =============

Sega Master System (7-9) - The start of my interest in video games. I played Wonder Boy III : The Dragon's Trap (Best Game Ever) and Fantasy Zone.

NES (8-9) - Didn't play this one much, pretty much just mario. i was a sega guy.

Genesis (10-12) - Genesis was where it was at. Wonder Boy in Monster World and Sonic were some amazing games on this thing. I also bought (from my own pocket) my first game for this system MORTAL KOMBAT. and when my dad learned how to do scorpion's Get Over Here move i could never win so i quit.

SNES (10-13) - Once I got this though, it was over for the other systems. Mostly because we would all play this as a family. since we never really got along very well it was nice when we would all be able to sit around and play Donkey Kong Country without arguments.

Gameboy color/advance (10-13) - I played pokemon. that was it. (Red version was the best)

After 13 I kind of stopped playing video games. We got a N64 and a Playstation but I never really played much. I focused more on MTG and skating.

Eventually one of my friends got my started playing DDR at the arcade. This led me to start playing other games again which in turn led to more stuff (japanese music -> JRPGS -> Anime -> fucking nerd).

-15-18-

PS2 - So far I've boughten 4 of these. 2 slim, 1 fat, and a jap slim. still my favorite console.

NDS - got it for college but didn't play much. Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center were my main games on it. eventually sold it because i got bored.

Wii - gah, i don't know if i regret it or not. i never play it but my family loves it so it's ok in that regard. maybe Brawl will change my mind.

360 - love this system. only really play GH/Rock Band, halo, and XBLA on it, but it's online is great.

Dreamcast - had it for a bit, but eventually sold it due to money issues, along with alot of my other games.

Arcade Experience
=================
I started going to arcades for DDR at 15-16ish. eventually working my way to the other Bemani games as well (beatmania, guitarfreaks, drummania) but when i was 18, i was at the arcade and the DDR machine was broken so i decided to see what else was up. i saw a game called Guilty Gear #reload and thought, "hey! thats that one game my gf was trying to get me to play. maybe i should try it" so i did. and i loved it. and now because of that i don't really play video games anymore besides fighters (save the occasional halo/GH session with friends) guilty gear got me into the other fighters as well. it also got me into competitive play which has taught me alot. not just about fighting games but it changed my outlook on alot of other things as well (mmmm... cheesey)

PC Game History
===============

meh, i used to play Magic Encyclopedia online and stepmania but now i only play Melty Blood, MAME, and various other doujin fighters. only exception would be Portal. god damn i love that game.

Gaming Preferences
==================

1. Your all-time favorite console
PS2 no questions. that system had any game you could ever want. only other competitor would be XBox 360 if only because the online part really does make an enormous difference in the way i look at gaming systems now.

2. Your least favorite console (that you own) of all time
wii. seriously, i hope Brawl changes my mind. all i see in the system is wasted potential and laziness.

3. Preffered genre and several games that fall in that genre and why it appeals to you
Fighting - Guilty Gear, Melty Blood, Arcana Heart, Street Fighter
I found out that i don't really enjoy playing games anymore, i just really enjoy competition and use the games as a tool for that.

rhythm - i've quit alot of the rhythm games i used to play but it's still fun to play DDR, Guitar Hero with friends. I especially like Rock Band because of the singing.

although i don't really play them anymore, i used to be huge into RPGs and SHMUPS. i'm glad that XBLA is getting so many good shmups so i can play them in between other games now. Trigger Heart Exelica is great.

4. favorite game of all-time
oh lord. i'd have to say Ikaruga or Lunar SSSC/EB. Ikaurga because that could be the only game i ever play from now on and i would be happy. and Lunar because that has my favorite story of any game.

Current and Past Consoles I own (with notes)

SNES (Age 8): I only had a handful of games to go with this but this was what got me into Street Fighter and fighting games in general. Didn't get too many games with it but had plenty of fun with all sorts of different games that my buddies loaned to me over the years like Dragon Ball Z, Super Metroid and Mario Kart.

PS2 (Age 22-Present): Just got a used one recently and modded it so I could start practicing and beasting in the newer SNK games like NGBC and KOF XI.

Experience with other consoles:

NES (Age 7?): I can't remember how old I was when I visited my friend regularly on Saturdays but the one thing that I loved about this game was the funky NES baseball game. And Ninja Turtles.

PS1 (Age 12?): My friend got it for FFVII but also got burned games of the crossovers like Marvel vs. Street Fighter (Japanese edition so I could spam Norimaro) and Marvel vs. Capcom.

DC (Age 14): The last console he ever acquired. This got me into Capcom vs. SNK in the first place. Of course, we played MVC2 on it but since I kept running into frustration with his Storm keepaway tactics and his Iron Man spam, I just dropped it for good.

Game Boy Pocket (Age 15): Got to try out Pokemon during my high school years. Eventually got hooked enough to obtain the Game Boy emulator and the ROM for my own computer so I could play at home.

PSP (Age 20?): Can't remember my first experience with it but I tried playing Darkstalkers on it at one time and had hella fun while my buddy drove us to a convention at one time.

Arcade Experience:

I think I started getting into arcades around 1994 or so when Wizard's Castle still operated in Brampton. I dabbled in various fighters like Marvel, the Alpha series, CVS2 and Virtua Fighter. I even played some Virtua On at one point (which was a pretty neat game). My fondest arcade memory is some guy going hyper after he beat me at Marvel...... after I thrashed him at least three times in a row. It was just so amusing seeing him flip out like that and start crowing to his friends.

PC Game Experience:

I started in Wolfenstein when I was young and moved up to Doom and Commander Keen. Then I got into emulators (GBA, Arcade) and grabbed ROMs of SNK, Capcom and other games to play at home. I don't have a fast enough connection to play any worthy online games so I pop into a cyber cafe once in a while to play some Battlefield 2, Team Fortress 2 and Counter-strike (1.6, CZ or Source depending on my mood).

All Time Favourite Console:

Hard to choose. SNES was the first to introduce me to fighters, DC to the CVS series which eventually led me to become an SNK fan and PS2 for having most of the core Evo games (Capcom staples like ST, 3S and CVS2) ported onto its system along with a huge selection of other games since it's backwards compatible with PS1 games.

5-ish: My older brother's 5200. I just remember playing Donkey Kong and Missle Command.

The bigger impact for me were arcade games. I started playing at a Shakey's pizza place somewhere in Northern California when my mom took us out on Fridays. I was exposed to the usual Pac Man and Mario Brothers type games of the mid-late 80s.

10-14 I think: Genesis. I remember getting that and a Gamepro subscription for my birthday. My first games were Altered Beast and Target Earth (and to this day I don't believe TE is a hard game at all). Where I lived there was a game rental place where I rented out damn near the whole Genesis library, then Turbografx, Neogeo and SNES when I saved up enough money. This was the point I was serious into gaming and the politics surrounding them.

More arcade. I got in before the fighting revolution and played games like Steel Gunner 2, Gain Ground, the original and superior Altered Beast, Final Fight.. this is where I grew an appreciation for companies like Sega, Capcom and Namco.

14-18: Arcade. I was butthurt from PlayStation domination and my interest in fighters was at an alltime high. I didn't buy a 32-bit system until 2000 (Saturn, and really only for X-Men vs Street Fighter). I played a lot of Model 1/2/3, CPS2 and Neogeo.

19-24: Dreamcast. Last time I really gave a damn about gaming. I BOUGHT ALL MY GAMES, I only have two burnt DC games (SF3 Double Impact and CvS2, and only because my retail copy of DI was used and scratched to hell. My retail copy of CvS2 remains sealed). It was actually fun as hell to buy DC games when I lived in Tokyo. They were brand new but discounted after DC's death. I also hooked up my VGA box to my bigscreen TV and played all my games in razor-sharp 480p.

24-present: PSP. I liked the games that first came out, and really prefer playing all my games on a handheld.. but the release schedule is starting to thin out, so most of my focus is on homebrewing and hacking. I still have bragging rights for being the first 200k to buy one on WW launch day..

27/present: PS3. I only have Devil May Cry 4 and NBA2K8.. I mostly use it for streaming everything from my PC to HDTV. And it's seriously the best fucking thing I've ever put in my entertainment center.

I prefer arcade-type games over games with epic storylines. Fighting, shmupping, racing etc. My preference leans toward Sega but I'm really indifferent towards anything Nintendo does, probably because I never actually owned a Nintendo system (I rented SNES all the time though)

Stylistics

5-7 years old: Went to friend's house to play Atari 2600 everyday after school

8 years old: My parents bought our first video game system. SEGA MASTER SYSTEM. $110.00 comes with system, two games, two controllers, and a light gun. What a deal that was! Was only kid in the school with the SMS and I defended my system to the other kids everyday.
SMS > NES

Arcade Experience: Started playing Street Fighter 2 in the fourth grade. Played Street fighter one before that. I grew up in the arcades from 1987- 1993. I played all the Street fighter 2's: CE, Turbo, the illegal versions, quit playing in the arcades by Super & Super Turbo.

10-15 Years old: Genesis and Super Nintendo. Parents bought Street Fighter 2 for SNES, Mortal Kombat for the Genesis ( blood code FTW), played my first RPG in Final Fantasy 2 (IV) on SNES back in 92. Bought all the US release Squaresoft RPG's.

16-17 years old: Playstation. This was the last system I ever owned. I "Cut" school for Final Fantasy 7 and Tekken 3. The last game I bought was Gruan Turismo 1.

1998- Now: I haven't bought a gaming system since PS1.

PC Gaming: I got interested in RTS. Age of Empires 2. Medieval- Total War.

Now: I'm not a hard-core gamer anymore, but I like reading about games on this forum

i'm 18 right now

age ~ 3 - nintendo of course. played a lot of that ninja turtles game. super mario 3 was also dope. and punch out. and kung fucking fu. there were a few games i played but not much since i was hella young.

age ~ 6 - super nintendo. the first game i played for it was super mario world. i also played chrono trigger around the time it first came out and loved it (always talked about it in kindergarden and shit). my friend also introduced me to final fantasy 3, which i played to death. from then on out, i really started to love RPGs. FF3, CT, and Mario RPG were the main shits i played. also played tecmo football 3, which was the best football game at that time. actraiser, donkey kong, etc etc.

age ~ 11 - playstation. i never actually *owned* one. my friend lent it to me because he got his xbox, and so i started buying games for it. the first game i bought was that yugioh game. forbiddon memories i think. then i bought legend of mana. for christmas, i bought my brother chrono cross and he got me star ocean 2. then my friend moved away so i just kept the playstation. i never bought a final fantasy game for it, but i did borrow from another friend who moved to new york for school. of course i played FF8 on ps1, got to disc 3, then quit. and FF9 which i beat. also legend of dragoon. i also played...

age ~ 11/12 - PC. starcraft. starcraft. starcraft. would play seriously for about 3 years. all throughout middle school. when WGT first came out, i played until like 5 in the morning on school nights. never really played much else.

age ~ 14 - playstation 2. first game i bought was kingdom hearts. i also bought mvc2 on ebay for $30 before it was hella expensive (and ended up selling for $60). borrowed FFX, which i loved. bought X-2 on ebay, which i also thought was hella fun. now my ps2 is soft-modded, with like 30 games on a hard drive and a few movies and anime.

age ~ 16 - PC. GUNZZZZZZZZ. and the frozen throne. played gunz hella hard. i was probably one of the best when K-style was still relatively unknown. but now people are way beyond kstyle so it's hella hard to keep up. warcraft...i played seriously but now i just goof around, like going solo warden vs UD and blink SSing lich to death. but i still know all my cookie cutters and shit

age - 17 - PSP. still waiting for that definitive game (might be god of war or crisis core). mostly been playing SNES or PS1 games, but right now i'm playing fire emblem 8 on my psp.

age - 18 - persona 3. yes this gets it's own catagory cuz it's that good.

age - 18 - PS3. first game was ASSassin's creed, which i sold about a week later. bought oblivion, which i played for about 2 hours and has been gathering dust since. now, it's CoD4, all day, every day.

Yeah, nothing like paying for ROMs to make a system worthwhile.

I originally wrote 2 paragraphs explaining my reasoning but...that just irritated me so much I wont even bother.
Ill just sum it up.

game systems are useless without games. wii has a lot of old games, games that are better than their current library.

Current and Past Consoles I own(or owned)

-Atari Computer Entertainment System: ?Yeah fuckers I said it. Not the 2600, the OG of them all. I don't remember anything about who brought it for me or how old I was, but all I remember about it was flicking those little silver switches on the console, and that it was the UGLIEST piece of brown shit system you would ever see in your lives(Yes, uglier than the Virtual Boy and the Jaguar.) I guess back in those days, all they was concerned about is if the thing actually worked lol

Favorite Game: Combat. It's the only game I can remember so I must've spent alot of time on it lol. I used to play this alot during Batman commercials(Yeah, the Adam West version. Deathscythe's Batman av always made me laugh, because I remember that scene vividly )

-Atari 2600: 6 Years old:I don't know if any of you listened to that Atari 2600 song that's on the DFP website, but if you wasn't around those days you need to hear that to get a taste of the greatness. ( :wonder: ). Again I don't remember much, but I do remember getting bored and tearing that silver strip off of the system for some reason lol. My family is full with Pac-man players, so I started my training with Ms. Pac Man and got pretty far, but my cousin always kicked my ass. That's why she has 5 kids now. Bastard.

Oh yeah, I guess it's time to confess my dark secret to SRK. I OWNED ET. I didn't buy it though, someone gave it to my uninformed ass. They got off lucky, but the jokes on them because I BEAT THE FUCKING GAME!!!! Muahahaha!!! Yeah I was a dumb ass for it, but I was really stubbon in those days and really wanted to figure out what the hell was going on. All I remember was falling down a hole, finding dots, and having to do that stupid ass neck thing to fly out. Shit was rediculous. I threw the game against a brick wall and watched the pieces splatter after I was finished. To this day, I've never watched the movie.

Favorite Game: Berserk. Yeah it's a OG game and not a 2600 game(backwards compatibility FTMFW), but it was pretty fun. It's kinda like bootleg Shock Troopers or something.

-NES: 9 Years old: Mom brought this for me for a Christmas present, and it was NOT what I was expecting(usually she'd by shirts and shit). I'm about to play Mario and shit and I find out that a friend of mine next door also got one...with Gyromite. ROB is the stupid piece of equipment EVER. What was the point of him and those stupid ass stacks???

Anyway, the NES was cool and all but I never really paid much attention to it...until I was introduced to Megaman 2. Playing through Woodman's stage changed my life and official made me a VG Junkie. I remember that there was a Turtle's Records down the street that would give a free game rental for every A you got on your report card. One weekend I brought mine in and walked out with Megaman 1, 3, and 4 AND Ninja Gaiden III, and beat them in one weekend. Damn that was fun.

I got into RPG's around this time too. I was given a choice between playing D&D and FF1, and Final Fantasy 1 won the battle. Plus my friend Marcel let me borrow his free copy of Dragon Warrior he got from NP(the bastard). But like 99.9% of the NES owners, after a couple of years or so I had graduated from NES player to NES technical support rep. Blowing into the system, cotton swabs, screwing open the top of the system...you name it I did it lol. I still have some games stored in the sleeves in my closet.

Favorite Game: Megaman 2/ Ninja Gaiden 2-I still play these at least once a year. Classics.

-SNES:12-13 years old:Before I got my own, my cousin's boyfriend(yeah the same one who beat my ass in Pac-man) brought a SNES, SFII, and Link To The Past. I coaxed them into letting stay over one night, and I ended up staying up all night to beat LTTP by that morning. My mom was hella pissed and I ended up getting in trouble, but it was worth it lol.

Sometime later, during one of my then yearly trips to New York, my grandmother decided to buy me one for my birthday. $200 was hella steep back in the day, so I was extremely glad she decided to bite the bullet for me. I was into SFII around this time, but since I knew that SF2:HF was coming out soon I decided to buy Fatal Fury as my first game. The port was ok, but Raiden was a bitch.

Pound for Pound, the SNES was the best system ever for games. Chrono Trigger, FF4, Megaman X, Super Punch Out...the damn thing was great. After I got my Saturn and Dreamcast and left my SNES home, my mom adopted it to fuel her Super Bomberman fetish.

Favorite Game: Super Metroid. Ridley scared the crap out of me the first time I fought him, but the game is really memorable and fun. This is Nintendo at their best.

-Sega Genesis:14 years oldThis was given to me by a DISTANT cousin of mine, who went off to the army and dissappeared. (I'm sure he's alive, but his Genesis isn't now lol.) And out of all the games to leave to me, do you know what this fool chose??? Bubsy The fucking Bobcat.

...well, to his defense, he did look kinda suspect if you know what I mean.

Anyway, I didn't care too much for the system. I was never a Mortal Kombat player so I didn't care, and the Sonic games were pretty lame and incredibly easy IMO. Thank god for Streets of Rage 2.

Favorite Game: Shining Force. Way too good. If it wasn't for this, I would've never tried FFT. Plus it had lightsabers! Too bad the GBA version sucks ass.

-PS1: 18 years old: There were NO SFA3 machines nowhere near where I lived, so I had to buy a PS1 when it was released. Since then I had all types of good times with it: RR Type 4, MGS, FFT, FF7...great library of games. This is also when I started getting into the pirating scene and loading imports/copies, but my dumb ass ended up destroying the cd motor and ruining my PS1. Crime doesn't pay. Not yet anyway.

Favorite Game: Valkyrie Profile. Still one of the best RPG's out there. Final Fantasy 6 & 7 be damned.

-Saturn: 19 years old: Before Electronics Boutique changed their name to EB Games(and before they started being lame as hell), I managed to score a used one and one of the best fighting games ever made: Vampire Hunter(act like you know). A 4 Ram cart + converter later, I was in paradise. Even though every time I think about the Saturn I get pissed off at Sega. Things could've been so different nowadays if they would've been smart...

Favorite Game: MSH vs SF: People might pretend it didn't exist, but it was less stupid than it's brothers without being boring. Plus the 6 button pad made this a joy to play.

-Dreamcast: 20 years old: Everytime I think about this system, all I remember is CvS2 Day and what went down then. Me, my roommate, and another friend of mine were released from class and made a beeline straight to my roommates computer. The TV would be constantly flipped back and forth between the news and 3S. At midnight the next day the disc was finished, and we knew the world would be changed forever.

Favorite Game: Project Justice: I might've spent more time with CvS2, 3S, and MvC2, but PJ was more fun than any of them. I guess it suffered the same curse as the Vampire Series: Any Capcom fighting game without Ryu just won't do well in the states lol.

-GBA:22 Years old: Thanks to my Dreamcast and my Saturn pad, I won this at AWA from a CvS2 tournament. It didn't come with any games though, so I had to buy CV: Harmony of Dissonance as soon as I brought it. It was a great successor to the Gameboy...when you could actually see wtf was going on!!! I hated having to tilt your body and the system in just the right way so you can play it. Nintendo developers must have the eyes of a hawk or some shit. Anyway when I found a good GBA emulator for my PC I ended up selling it for like 20 bucks lol.

Favorite Game: Advance Wars 2. I never got a chance to play against a human in the game, so hopeful DoR will solve the problem. That dude with the Tsunami special pissed me off HARD.

-GC: 22 Years old: Wind Waker and Metroid Prime basically commanded that I get a GC...but that was it??? What a fucking waste of money! I sold it right after I them lol

Seriously though, besides SSBM and a handful of games, the system had no use. What a waste.

Favorite Game: Ikaruga. One of the best and hardest shooters ever. The first time I played this at AWA, I died like 47 times before I beat it. I wanna slap the guy who made those one life runs for making me feel like a bitch.

-PS2: 23 Years old: Since my roommates had PS2's from launch day, I didn't have to get my own from till I moved away from them. I think VF4: Evo is what pushed me into getting one: I brought the game before I had the PS2! I was trying to way for the pirating to come out(as usual), and my friend hooked me up with an HD loader. Success!! It's dusty as hell but I still play it alot, and I'd probably never get rid of it.

Favorite Game: Silent Hill 2/Z.O.E 2/ MGS3: Konami owned the PS2 generation, and all of these were awesome games.

-PSP: 27 Years old: I was a tekken junkie around this time, so when DR came out I had to get one. Turns out that the PSP is awesome and *suprise suprise* is subject to hacking! Emulators, burned games, comics, books, you name it. I haven't used it since I got my DS a couple of weeks ago(Advance Wars: DoR owns me), but I see a PSP lite in my future.

Favorite Game: DR. Modded D-pad=Julia shotgun juggles=win.

I'm pressed for time, so I may continue this later. Sorry it's so long...

Current and Past Consoles owned with approx age and short notes

-Atari 2600. ->started off the "right" way though it was late. NES was already out. I simply asked for this because I figured mom would not get me a NES for some reason...Atari was cheaper. I enjoyed it though, and ended up with a shoebox of about 30 games.

-NES ->it was the perfect Christmas gift of either the following year or the year after that, I forgot. Lots of fun, yadayada = shoebox of about 30 games or so.

-Genesis -> summer of '89 ir 90, I forgot which one. Lots of fun with Altered Beast Golden Axe, Streets of Rage 1 and 2, Toejam & Earl, Kid Chameleon, Flashback and on and on. I ended up with around 20 something games.

-Gameboy -> 89, the original "brick". This was mainly an impulse due to us going on a road trip, but I ended up enjoying it somewhat...only about 5 to 8 games though.

-SNES ->1992 for me...purchased mainly because of Actraiser(Legendary game, folks. Unprecedented music quality as well...I never heard a soundtrack that nice for a game before that), Legend of the Mystical Ninja, and the impending arrival of SF2. I ended up with around 20 games or so. Chumps were arguing over which one was better...haha...I had both SNES and Genesis on the same tv, fools! Those were good times. Back then, that was everything.

*nobody is going to read all this.

-CD-i. -->yes...this is shameful. Such a rip-off system, btw....retail price was already 400.00.(*I got it "hot" for 100.00...of course, it's not even worth that price.) Let's ignore the fact that nothing on this system was actually a great game. To even have the luxury of playing MOST of the games...you had to also purchase the Digital Video Card, which was another 250.00. Of course, they left that little piece of information out of all the advertising. If it was there, it was likely one of those sneaky things only written in small print...with the hopes that the customers don't notice. Really, what the hell was I thinking there? This is my greatest gaming-related shame.

-Playstation. -1995. Legendary. This system came out on FIRE like NBA Jam. Mortal Kombat 3, Battle Arena Toshinden, a demo disc to maintain the hype of greatness on the horizon, Twisted Metal, Loaded, Ridge Racer a custom soundtrack feature(*you could play all of Ridge Racer to any cd you had) for that and other games, it had everything....Doom with better lighting and a better soundtrack. (*don't even front like that MIDI-rock garbage from the PC original was "good") Later on there was GTA, Wipeout, MGS, Resident Evil, the list went on and on forever. Too bad the hardware was a joke. I eventually killed that sorry ass bitch, and it felt very good. I had probably 20 something games.

*nobody is going to read all this.

-Dreamcast ->early 2000, right after I murdered the Playstation. Legendary system, here...too bad so many people out there were too close-minded and retarded to realize the greatness and the great potential that could've been realized later on if it remained alive. I ended up with around 20+ games or so.

-Gamecube ->got it at launch....fewer great games, but some heavy hitters though; Smash and Viewtiful Joe are 2 of my favorite games of all time, and they will always have that status. They are true Legends. On top of this ya had PSO episode 1 and 2, continuing that greatness from Dreamcast.

-GBA.--Yeah, whatever. I got FirePro Wrestling, Konami's Krazy Racers DBZ Supersonic Warriors and Super Mario 3, and Gunstar Heroes after upgrading to GBAsp. GH was serious business though...the most fun I've ever had on a portable system (until PSP)

-Xbox-->some greatness here...a bit less than 20 games though. The system eventually died because MS seems to like making piss-poor excuses for hardware.

-x360-->Legend status, even despite MS once again putting out garbage hardware that breaks in 2 seconds. I have probably close to 20 games at this point, possibly more if counting the Live Arcade games...

-PSP--> greatness simply by default....LEGEND status if we bring modding into the picture. I already have Aliens vs. Predator in a folder on this desktop, just waiting for the time I decide to mod that sumbitch.

The Grass is Greener on the other side: Instances of borrowing, playing and sharing other gamer's systems--Not much here. My ol pal "Dumbass" had Sega Master System back in the day, on a nice big-screen tv with amazing sound.(*back then, tvs that size were fat and must've weighed about as much as the Incredible Hulk) It was one of the only times in life where I was kind of jealous of him. Oh yeah, and more recently I got to play his modded PSP...this is what sparked my interest to finally get that system. Oh yes, he also had the greatness that is AvP on there.

Arcade Experience

1) SF2 came out and I was there. 1991 so I was whoah I was already 13 at the time. It was magic to see that game for the first time...back when it was fresh. The crowds started building quickly of course, and soon you had to get in line just to play.

Of course I was at the arcades long before. Dad was seriously addicted to the arcade, so he was taking me there since I was a toddler. The first game I remember playing was Defender 2.

PC game history
Not much here...I was never a serious fan. In school it was all about Number Munchers and Oregon Trail. I only liked OT because of that part of the game where you hunt and kill things. Nothing else mattered. Later on, I was a big fan of Doom(preferred to play on psx later on) and even more a fan of Postal.

Gaming Preferences (short list to be added upon)

Your all time favorite console: It's still a tight one between DC, SNES and Playstation ...and 360, despite it having sissybitch hardware. In terms of more memorable moments...it's closer between DC and Playstation, really. I'm giving the edge to DC. It had my favorite fighting games of all time, Quake 3 Arena, random stuff I loved like Crazy Taxi, and Phantasy Star Online. The online aspect gives it a slight edge over the greatness of Playstation, even though Psx had a much deeper library due to a longer lifespan. 360 also has the online component...but so far it hasn't had a similar PSO type of experience that has had me addicted for an insane # of hours. Geometry Wars comes close to that, but it's obviously not the same type of game experience. PSU fell way short of expectations.

*haha...nobody is seriously going to read all this.

Your least favorite console (that you own) of all time-CD-i of course.

Preferred genre and several games that fall in that genre and why it appeals
Action/adventure for me. This is a broader scope of games that usually gives much more freedom to the player. IMO, the game experience improves and becomes more fulfilling as you increase the freedom of the player. The ultimate evolution of this is of course the "sandbox" category. I don't like being too restricted in terms of options...the more restrictive it is...the less fun. This is one of many reasons I absolutely despise the old-style turn-based RPG. For me, if it's not an action-RPG...it's automatically garbage, and hell yes I love taking the cheapshot at that whole genre.

behind that comes fighters, shootemups, and beatemups. I don't have much interest in other things not in those categories.

*haha, nobody is seriously going to read all this.

favorite game of all-time (tsukihimeblood)--It's a tough one for me. The contenders that come to mind right away are GTA 2, Viewtiful Joe, Unreal Championship 2(I know no one else agrees. Fuck everyone else to hell), Geometry Wars, and Super Mario Bros. 3. I could narrow that down to GTA2, Geo Wars, VJ and UC2....ah it's just too tough to select an absolute #1.

Wish I saw this thread when it was fresh, but here it goes (also I'm just going to use OC's format of how he did it)

Current and Past Consoles owned with approx age and short notes

Atari 2600 - I've had this for as long as I can remember, so I'll say about 2 or 2: Both my grandparents and I had one, so whichever house I was at I was set. My grandma was always at every single garage sale in existence, so she would pick up random games at every one pretty much so we always ended up with multiple copies of games, and some weird ones too. I specifically remember having 3 copies of E.T., 4 Star Wars, and 2 Spider-man. I'm sure there were others but it was too long ago. Best memory I have with this was playing Frogs and Flies with my cousin for hours at a time (the concept is to eat the most flies before it gets dark).
NES - Also as long as I can remember: Again a system that both my grandparents had and I. I remember this one more vividly though, when I was in kindergarten my aunt would babysit me after I got out of class (morning only). She's pretty much white trash, which kind of worked in my favor since that meant she left me alone to play Mario Bros 3 all to myself daily. I was at Video Warehouse the day Zelda came out, and never beat it for years . My parents were also into games at this time, and I remember some nights consisted of me doing homework, and when I was done I'd watch my mom play through Super Mario Bros 1 to see if she can beat her old times. My dad would hook our NES up through the VCR and record her playing as she played it! This system is probably what single handedly turned me into who I am today since it had such a huge effect on me at the time.
SNES: All time favorite. This where games really upped the ante in my opinion. So many classics on this, Mario Kart, Megaman X series, various Square RPGs, i could go on for a long while. I do remember that my dad surprised me with this the day it came out. We were pretty poor at the time and I nearly started crying when my dad showed up with one since i felt really bad, but I was so glad he got it! Him and I played through Mario Kart quite a bit, which was probably the last game either of my parents got into. My grandma still would buy random games from garage sales, which brought to my possession classic gems such as Drekkhen, Rocky Rodent, Home Alone, and thank fucking god Street Fighter 2.
Nintendo 64 Honestly I wasn't as thrilled about this when it came out. My sister wanted one really badly, so the two of us did chores for a while to get it together. I only even had 5 games for it really.
Gameboy: I bought this for one sole reason - Pokemon. Looking back I can't believe how obsessed I was with that franchise.
Playstation: I got this console for all of the wrong reasons. I wanted to play Twisted Metal . I'm glad I got this though, it opened me up to a lot of games I never knew about at the time (Resident Evil mainly). Also a lot of sequel to my favorites on SNES were released on this console as well that I thoroughly enjoyed!
Dreamcast I never owned this until well into the Xbox's life. A friend of mine had one and needed some cash so he sold it to me for $25. I only have a couple games on it, but this is probably the most underrated system around.
Wii: The last console I've purchased. I was solely interested in this because of Brawl. Then I saw the Wiimotes and got a little more stoked for it (Star Wars: Jedi Knight came to mind instantly). So far though I'm not too impressed with the Wii, seems there are far too many party/gimick games with little content on it. Just my opinion though.

The Grass is Greener on the other side: Instances of borrowing, playing and sharing other gamer's systems

Genesis: One of my uncles had this. He had two games for it, Sonic 2 and Ecco, both of which I loved! He eventually gave this to me years later, but I never stated it above because by the time I got it, Genesis was a dead console, and I think I only played it for a couple days once I got it then it's sat in a bin since.
Xbox: I had a friend in high school who had one, we only really played it for Halo and Dynasty Warriors, both of which I found to be really "meh" games.
PS2: I call this Sony's SNES. I really think it'll be hard for them to repeat the success they had on this console (quality wise I'm talking about, not monetarily). Everybody had/had one but me, and I'm fine with it because I can always go to someone's place and play it! TONS of good games on this, also TONS of shitty ones too.
Xbox 360: My current roommate has one, and I'm really convinced that this is a great console. If I wasn't living with him right now I'd probably end up getting this.

1) Yes, but I never really went to arcades during this time, I was very young.
2) I had only seen it in Nintendo Power, and the only time I played it was when my grandma picked it up at a garage sale for me, and then it took a few years for me to truly appreciate the game.

I live in Iowa, arcades area mystery to this state. When I was in elementary school there was a new laser tag/arcade in a mall here that opened. I would go here quite a bit, but this was about the time Mortal Kombat 3 came out. The same place is where I learned to play MvC (first). But the thing is everyone in these arcades are scrubs... No way for me to get better when you can pretty much KO people with 2 buttons and eating food at the same time.

It wasn't until high school that I really became involved in arcades. And this is due to DDR (yes laugh it up haha). There was a narcotic vapor around this game or something, once you started playing you just couldn't stop. From playing DDR I started to play other games in the arcades we had at the time while waiting for my turn.

PC game history

Never owned a PC until the late '90s unfortunately. I got Duke Nukem and SimCity 2000, which made me love almost every type of sim game. Currently I only play

Gaming Preferences (short list to be added upon)

Your all time favorite console: SNES by far. I would spend weeks on end playing this console. Also i made a ton of friends with the SNES as well!

Your least favorite console (that you own) of all time: Probably my N64. Seemed that every game that came out after the initial great titles were just cheap community college titles that you get free for applying.

Preferred genre and several games that fall in that genre and why it appeals to you:

RPGs: Hells. Yes. The game that really got me into them is probably one of the worst ever - Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. For some reason this game was cool as shit for me... (even though I had the original on NES I never played it much). Then came Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana. Holy hell these were amazing! I still say these two titles revolutionized how RPGs (and most games to a degree) are made. Then comes the PSX titles. On top of amazing gameplay, these gems also had movie quality CGI scenes that I never knew existed in games. Currently though I'm playing City of Heroes as probably my only RPG lately.

Fighters: Loved fighters. Darkstalkers was probably the first one I actually became decent at, and I never even had the consoles it was for! Honestly I didn't get TOO into street fighter until about 3S, I casually played the others but this one made me really want to get into the scene.

favorite game of all-time: Chrono Trigger. Like all gamers, this is like asking which child you love more, just too hard to say really. But this game is still fun, I can still play through it without getting tired of it, and the story is amazing even compared to some titles that are even out today.

Current and Past Consoles owned with approx age and short notes

Since I'm not good at remembering what specific age I was when x event occured, I'll omit it.

NES - We've had the NES as far back as I can remember - I believe it was originally owned by my older brother and sister. We had maybe 20-30 games or so, nothing big. Some friend of my sister stole Super Mario Bros 3 from us. I'll never forget it.

SNES - Can't remember when I've had this gem either. Probably one of my most favorite consoles overall, and I honestly consider the SNES to be one of the most successful systems of all time. It knocked out any competitor, held its own until the N64, and lasted until games were coming out that pushed the hardware of the system to its limit. When that happens, it proves that the system has lived a good, long life.

I'll never forget playing Earthbound (got it for Christmas), FF6, or Super Mario RPG on it. Good times. Also wish I bought Chrono Trigger and Harvest Moon.

I lent a friend of mine FF2 (or 4 now) back in 6th grade. He had it for a long time, I asked for it back but he never did give it back. I used to joke about how he'd give it back at graduation, but that turned out to be no longer a joke, as I seriously did ask him around graduation. He lost it long ago. Oh well.

Genesis - I think we've had this just as long as we had the SNES. We also got the Sega CD with it, with the only worthwhile game we played on it was, of course, Sonic CD. There was a good number of good games on it, but it didn't last as long as the SNES did.

Some friend of .. I don't even remember, but some guy end up stealing our Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I'll never forget that.

Gameboy - Got it for Pokemon. Still enjoy the hell out of the franchise. I didn't really play too many other games on it.

Virtual Boy - LOL. That is all I have to say. (I didn't own it)

Game Gear - This was a pretty damn good system for its time. The graphics were amazing, that's for sure. There wasn't too many amazing games for it though.

It also ate batteries. Lots and lots of batteries. Oh god.

Playstation - Also a great system, lasted for a very long time like the SNES did, and I enjoyed it just as much. Got it for one awesome Christmas. FF, MGS, Parasite Eve, Resident Evil - tons of good games for it.

Problem for me though is, there was a lot of obscure RPG titles I didn't learn about until later. Persona, Wild Arms, Vandal Hearts, Tactics Ogre, and yes, Xenogears. Could've had a lot more to do if I got them.

N64 - My brother got this and I got the Playstation on the same Christmas. It's still just as memorable as the PS and SNES were, playing Super Mario RPG and Ocarina of Time and all that good stuff. But. . . well, that's about it as far as games go. :\ We got the gold cartridge of OoT, btw.

Dreamcast - Brother got this. It was definitely a good system with some good games on it, but it just didn't last long.

PS2 - Another very memorable system I got. Tons of RPGs to play, still some that I'm trying to get time to play now. Now that the next-gen systems are out, this'll probably fade out soon.

I've been using the same fat PS2 I've had for...7 years? It has yet to die.

Gameboy Advance - My god did the original system suck. I got a SP later on. Never was really crazy about the library of games for this one.

Gamecube - It was alright. Moving on...

Xbox - I never did find most of the games on this system to be appealing. I didn't buy it either, but we have it, and I haven't touched it.

Nintendo DS - A good portable system that has a good library of games to enjoy.

PSP - A good portable system that has a small (but growing) library of games to enjoy.

Wii - I don't care for this system much at all. I don't care for all the new Mario/Metroid/etc games anymore. They're fun and I won't deny that. I just don't feel compelled to go through any more of those hit Nintendo games anymore.

IT DOZ HAV BRAWL THO

Atari 2600 - Why yes, it has taken me this long to play this system and I don't regret buying one last summer. It was made before my time and I never got to witness how fun the games were until now.

Boxing - A great boxing game that definitely gets you into it. Gameplay is intense, even to this day.
Berzerk - Holy fuck this games fun. Gets more intense the more you play it, as you have to dodge increasingly fast bullets, robots, and a bouncing smiley face (Evil Otto).
Dig Dug - Still one of my all-time favorite arcade games. The Atari game is kinda slow though.
Centipede/Millipede - Another of my favorite arcade games. Millipede doesn't fuck around.
Pitfall/Pitfall 2 - Both great games, and I love Pitfall 2's music.
Kaboom - Another really fucking fun game. Hard as hell though.
Missile Command - Awesome game, gets pretty intense later on too.
Yars' Revenge - Hard as hell but pretty fun.

PS3 - Got this for cheap. There's a small handful of good games for it right now, but that'll change. It's also good for just playing Bluray.

Put my "sharing" info in there. I never really had to rely on others to share, as I was the infamous nerd at my school who owned the systems and games. They were asking to share from ME.

1) Were you alive and sentient (aka not a toddler button smasher) to have played SF2:WW when it first came out? What age were you?
2) If not did you catch the SF popularity wave with the subsequent console releases?

No and no.

I'm not much for PC gaming.

* Your all time favorite console: SNES and Playstation.

* Your least favorite console (that you own) of all time: Virtual Boy, but since that's just too easy to shut down, I'd have to say the Gamecube.

* Preferred genre and several games that fall in that genre and why it appeals to you: RPGs. The story is what gets me. Gameplay is second in importance, but it won't ever stop me from playing (and enjoying) a good RPG. These days, however, there's just too much grinding and not enough time. I may have to cheat a little bit so that I can just skip straight to the story.

* favorite game of all-time: A complete tie with Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. I just generally prefer FFT, but man is Tactics Ogre good.
