The Hollywood sign is up for sale and the land around it. They want to use it for real estate development. I know this is old news to Los Angelenoes but this shit is high treason  Fuck Chicago.

misleading thread title, article says the land west to the signs is up for sale, not the sign itself

It's not really misleading. Word around town is that the developer has bought the land already which includes the sign too which occupies the land. They just "don't know what to do with it yet." They want to remove the sign and put up apartments and shit. I'll try to find more sources.

The sign is pretty hard to see from most places these days, though.
I should probably go up there sometime soon, though, provided I won't get arrested for it.

The Hollywood Sign used to be lit up at night, but was turned them off because people who live around there complained. Los Angelinos have no appreciation for landmarks or history. The Hollywood sign is the ONE of the few if not only recognizable landmark in LA, and it should treated as such.

Sep just drive up Beachwood Dr. off Hollywood Blvd or Vine I think. Near Argyle Ave or so. Take the 101 south from the Valley and exit Vine and go a few streets up past the Chevron/or Mobile Station and take a left on Beachwood. You'll get a straight shot at the Hollywood sign up to Hollywoodland. Hollywoodland is a very small village community right underneath the sign. It's sad
Motherfuckers from Chicago want to throw money at us and shit like we don't have it.

I was just up in Hollywoodland some hours ago with a friend looking for an apartment (expensive as shit...$1300+/month for a studio) :crybaby:
Check it out and take some pictures while you can in all it's glory cause who knows how long it'll last. It's a small gated community and shit in most areas.

Yeah haha. I actually had never seen it my whole life(Despite being a socal resident and going through LA/Hollywood area many times) until I finally moved here and one night went with some friends to the observatory and was like "Oh shit there is the hollywood sign!" they were like "Yeah so??"

Gosh...the only landmark I can see from my apartment is being sold off? That does suck.
Which means, yeah, I should probably go up there and see it before it gets sold off. Blah.

Some rich dude should totally buy the land and then set up like a giant "FUCK" (or "SUCKS" I'm not sure which way is West) sign next to it.

history, culture, landmarks???
you need to move out of socal if you wanna find that. celebrities and the wealthy dictate the culture over there. not all of it is necessarily bad.
i heard the airplanes that take off of john wayne airport are special. they must turn off their thrust while theyre still near orange county because people complain about the noise.

I heard PETA was going to try to lease the land and put up a sign that says "GO VEG". I was thinking about leasing land right next to that and opening up a barbeque place.

It will be declared a historical monument before anyone would get the chance to tear it down.
