Good old reliable SRK, need some input.

So we recently got a barrage of phone calls from a collection agency. Apparently my parent's Sears credit card was not paid off, but here is the story.

Roughly two years ago they went to Sears and bought an air compressor. The sales guy offered 15% off the sale if they opened a Sears credit card. They did but here was the thing, for whatever reason the purchase was paid in cash and the credit card was supposed to be credited in full amount by Sears. Looks like the card never got credited.

After the phone calls, they went back to Sears with the receipt showing it was paid in the cash. Sears didn't want anything to do so they pretty much got blown off. We want to send the proof of payment to the collection agency, but they won't take it either. Help?

*the sales guy was black, maybe he ran off with the cash**I is not racist*

Well, your parents need to get PRIMAL on Sears then. Since the stature of limitations probably hsnt expired yet, they theoretically owe the money. They need to call the Sears office repeastedly and talk to someone that knows his head from his ass. Since your parents still have the receipt, they hold all the cards. Assuming i am hearing right, they bought the compressor, open the account to get the discount, and then paid cash for it? I always thought it had to be on the card to begin with for the discount to apply. Dont send the reciept to the collection agancy. If you do, you might not get it back--collection agencies are pretty sleazy. They should be dealing with Sears and not the collection agency. Also, threats involving the BB and whatever other agency are useful. the threat of a lawsuit usually helps as well...
