Yeah the Vulture looks like he's gonna start rattling numbers off any second, but the Vulture WAS Spidey's first supervillain in the original comics, wasn't he? Kinda cool that they're sticking to the original source material. With a lot of 2008 added in.

They're using that lanky curvy neo-Transformers style for this too?
I wish they'd just use McFarlane's wide-eyed Spidey, he looks much better IMO.
Oh well I will have to watch it, because it's Spiderman. I can deal.

Hopefully it's not a "highschool drama" slashed with super heroes gig. Seriously, there's alot of those happening these days...and it's just annoying. However, I'm going to be hopeful and will definetly be watching it, the artwork looks interesting as well.

That would require American animation studios to consider 2-D being useful, and then actually get animators who can animate in 2-D and draw very well consistently. That won't happen.
-Disclaimer- I do not mean to say that all American animation studios are talentless, because that's incredibly wrong and misinformed to say. What I am saying is that normally the character design/style that American studios pick are incredibly simple and sometimes (sometimes) uninspiring. The other case is that they come up with something interesting but can't afford to animate it well.

nah it's stated as being targeted towards a younger audience(like before the world gets thrown on his shoulders), also it starts with him shortly after he gets his power iirc.

90s Spiderman was hot garbage after like, season 2. I like the way Spidey looks in this version. I'm guessing that it will be using a lot of elements from the Ultimate Spidey cartoon(which is good).

Yeah, the animation quality drops, and so does the narrative. I guess Spidey straps that bomb from the second episode back onto his wrist whenever he feels like swinging through that same spot in the city, using the exact same swing path.

Their eyes are huge...they could've offset this by having regular-sized pupils, but they super-sized THOSE as well. Creepy. Aunt May is bangable, since whoever is on art design doesn't know old people have wrinkles. She looks like 2k3 tmnt April with white hair. The animation, character body types and fight scenes look like Kim Possible's stuff. Huge upper body, medium-length (but still stunted and unproportionate, Disney-style) legs, and goofy, uncoordinated walking animations for said buff characters.

From the commercials, this was already looking better than that trash from the 90s. Don't let the nostalgia blind ya, folks. I can't remember either 90s Spiderman cartoon being good besides *perhaps* the first few episodes. It was a terrible representation of the character, specifically with regard to powers.
*ah, it's coming on now here.
heh, that VA already makes an appearance....Keith David? I think that's the name...that's bonus points already.
...ohhhh, but that intro theme kinda sucks. Point deduction there.

Well...yeah.. You didn't miss much.
Here's a rundown:
-guy has freak accident gains electric powers
-peter panics about not even his powers can save him(he's late for school)
-dumbass cheerleader fails a test Peter has to tutor her
-Peter disses bitch cheerleader battles electro and electro gets away
-Electro comes back where peter and friends drool over science
-Spidey battles[insert corny joke bout gloves] and beats electro
-peter and bitch bond and she blows him off when her friends come...yeah she feels bad about it.
-show closes with doc connor taking the vial that makes him the lizard[insert cliffhanger]

I'm digging this. I like the way Spidey looks. He has muscle, but he's still skinny, like the Ultimate Spidey and the Spidey from the early Ditko titles. Very nice. The dude doing Peter/Spidey's voice is spot-on.
As for the Vulture's costume being black? Scorpion is green, Doc Ock is green, Electro wears green. See the "pattern" here? The creators said they wanted the Vulture to have a different color scheme to avoid having already too much green. I dug the black & red costume the Vulture wore. He has an excellent voice actor playing him, too. Speaking of excellent VA's Chrispen Freeman is voicing Electro! :woot:
I was surprised Peter told off Liz. I mean, I was expecting him to make up some lame excuse to go fight Electro, but he basically said "Look, broad, I'm smart, you're stupid. When you want that IQ to go up, give me a call." Liz must not be used to getting blown off. The look on her face when Peter left was priceless.
I actually like this slightly nerdy version of Gwen, and those that know me know that I am not a Gwen man. It's all about that MJ for me. Speaking of which, when is MJ gonna show up so we can get some Betty & Veronica moments. Though from the way Liz was clinging to Peter when Electro showed up and the way Gwen was looking jealous when he was tutoring Liz, we could get a good old verbal cat fight without MJ.
Animation is a lot more fluid than the '90s show. I LOVE the web-slinging moments. I need to get a gif of Spidey web-slinging and use it as an av. Only knock I have against the show is the opening theme song.

Loved the 90's cartoon. This one wasn't too bad, the theme song isn't bad at all though I'm sure most will disagree. Seems like they're off to a better start than "The Batman" was, so it could only improve in time.
Only halfway through the first epsisode, but I dig it.
So, it looks like it's basically Ultimate Spiderman made into a cartoon. I'll look into it and see for myself.
90s Spider-Man cartoon was...not great. I just need to point that out for everyone who's biased by nostalgia.
Anyway, the huge pupils threw me off at first, they look like Stewie at a Grateful Dead concert. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAHaf-sJa5o) But I got used to it and it it works now.
Like the voice acting and the dialogue, background music is good and unobtrusive.
Good interpretations of villians so far, though I liked Vulture more than Electro.
I dig it.

The gargoyle Spidey webbed onto looked familiar :wgrin: I liked seeing the Enforcers in action. Fancy Dan in particular seemed quiet skilled. I thought they might just be bumbling oafs but the Enforcers rock! Man, the Vulture even looks a bit like Freddy Krueger.

03-09-2008, 09:41 AM
yeah, it's interesting that this is the first time I've seen Vulture not looking incredibly goofy. The old man's face and pointy nose is still kind of silly, but it fits the obvious visual theme of a vulture there.
The Venom/symbiote suit will definitely make an appearance at some point. It's actually shown for a brief moment in the intro sequence...a short clip of Spidey in the symbiote suit crawling up a wall. That should be quite interesting to see how that story plays out on the new show. There's some good potential here, though as usual....it would be nice to see this on Toonami instead. CN is such a barren wasteland these days; they need all the help they can get in terms of shows. Currently, I only watch for Bleach, even though I'm up to date on where that anime is right now...the Soul Society is too awesome to resist watching again.
-I bet if the MTV Spiderman was not on MTV...it could've gone on for quite awhile. It's a shame when great shows are anchored to a network that's run by morons.

Can't wait for more. It's a fun show. It is weird that there is less than four degrees of separation between all the villians (Wtf? Eddie? Dock Ock, Osborn, Conner, Electro, Flint Marko, Vulture. All within TWO episodes) tho. Like um... wow. So what will spiderman do when he's 30 years old and all his major villians were defeated before he graduated from high school?
Oh and Million. If you want to see what the new Venom and Doc Ock look like, look no further than your local toy aisle as the figures are already out.
Not sure why they didn't release action figures of the characters from the first few episodes instead of ones from later down the line like with the old Toy Biz action figure line.

This is head and shoulders above the old series on fox. At least it has a lot more personality and they don't recycle the animation.
The only thing that annoys me are the perfectly circular eyes... it makes the characters look like dolls.
Speaking of which, Aunt May is hot.... I never thought I'd ever hear myself saying that, but it's true.
What the fuck is up with Harry Osbourne's voice?? Nails on a chalkboard.
The spiderman theme song sounds like some kind of surfer music... bleh... the fox spiderman theme song was eons superior "spiiiiiderman, spiiiderman, ra-dio-ac-tive spiiiiderman" or something.

Kingpin may appear in the series but the voice you heard was that of Big Man, voiced by Keith Dave. He also played Goliath on Gargoyles, which is pretty interesting when you consider that Greg Weisman worked on that and is working on this show. Also worth noting that the Big Man's secret ID made an appearance in the first ep. :wgrin:

-Peter is on date with MJ or Gwen
-Villian runs rampant
-Spidey enters*cue lame ass joke cuz only the comics are funny*
-Villians gets PWned; Spidey goes back to date

im all for change, but if its a change in a direction that doesn't appeal to me... then thats that. for example: batman forever = no... batman begins = yes. two movies taking the original burton batman films i loved in completely different directions... i just preferred the latter. the original spiderman cartoon wasn't all that to begin with anyways, but this teen titans style is just shitty imo (art direction/animation wise).
and yea ive never seen the spiderman movies : ( ... i just never felt inclined to watch them for some reason (might have something to do with my dislike for kirsten dunst). i DID watch all 3 x-men movies in theaters though - and they sucked for the most part, but had some worthy moments (nightcrawler!). the spiderman movies are probably better than the x-men ones, so i will watch em eventually.
i usually just download the big hyped up blockbusters after they come out if they get really good reviews, and stick to watching sure classics and indie flicks that catch my interest in theaters on release.

Never got around to it?
Ok I can understand missing out on indie flicks (like No Country For Old Men) or smaller budget movie spectaculars like Hellboy or a historical epics like Gangs of New York (all three of which I missed in theaters). So I understand missing some movies...
BUT SPIDERMAN? WTF DUDE! What have you been doing? You have to actively avoid this franchise. It's one of the top ten summer movie franchises and you missed all three of them? Whoa.
Anyway. You guys really need to let shit go. I'm tired of SRKers and people in general going "Eh, it's not as good as the old show." Like wtf? Does everything have to be the way you remember it? God. If things never change it gets stagnant and we find ourselves reading comics about Peter Parker and Mary Jane making deals with Mephisto to save an old broad's life. Seriously...
People tend to forget the old Fox kids Spiderman had some flaws to it to. Good show but it had its flaws.

The old Fox show tried to compress all these epic ass storylines into 30 minute episodes. Then there was the general lack of punching.
So far the new show's story and animation have been acceptable. But these super-simplistic character designs aren't very inspiring. Hopefully the toys don't suck.
Also. BND = Fucking sucks.

I just watched both episodes, and I don't see why you are all complaining about it being emo...
The episodes were both fairly action packed, and both left the major villains being stuck with the regular police(completely escapable).
Personally I think this show brings a lot more to the table than the early 90's version(even though that still holds a special place in my heart)

Am I the only one that thinks this Intro for The Spectacular Spiderman is just simply horrid???
Intro's to me are one of the most appealing parts to getting you hyped for the Intro (Look to TMNT from the 80's, Batman from the early 90's, even X-Men from the early 90's). However this one...I have the feeling of...oh my gosh, just end already.
Saw episode 1, it wasn't too bad, I don't really like how the character's faces look though, I know that's the artwork and the style, but it doesn't really appeal to me. So far it isn't too bad, Spiderman did get his abilities when he was a late teen, so we'll see how it goes.
Only been one episode so I can't fully judge it completely yet, maybe after a few more, I can get a better idea of where they are taking this.
However, the Intro itself is just completely horrible, that's an F-Grade imo.

I ain't big fan of the intro but I have the feeling it'll grow on me. I found myself humming the tune a lot after the show was off.
I don't like the really big pupils. It's very strange to me and sticks out. But other than that, I like practically everything about the show so far. I was shocked that the girk of Peter's affection was NOT Mary Jane. :amazed: I was shocked that Eddie Brock was a lab geek AND a football player and a I could've sworn he said he was Gwen's brother (I think later it was proven not to be). I'm starting to wonder if he'll actually end up being Venom. :amazed: It's not impossible and I would welcome the change.
I'm a bit worried at the hits Spidey has taken. Electro gave him like..... 3 full-on electric blasts to the chest and Spidey just moaned a little and got back up. :wtf: I'm not sure if Spidey should be taking those like that and at least not having his costume ripping or something.
The cellphone shit is crazy to me. He's answering his cellphone in the middle of a fight. It's crazy that he even has it on him. I don't remember the spideysuit having pockets that could fit a cellphone. A spidertracer, maybe..... but a cell? And I think it was flip-top too. That shit would be broken and fall out if it's a normal cellphone.
Even though the jokes were corny, I like that they were there. That's the Spiderman I like seeing and hearing during his fights.
But overall I really like the show and the 2 eps. It's on my radar now and I DEFINITELY want to see more of it. 2

I dug the cell phone bit. I like that he has a relationship with Aunt May, and it gives him something which will no doubt pop up at an inopportune moment and give him trouble. Plus, it's a good example of him having to balance his secret identity and his "normal" life.

I did too. I mean I don't think his celly should have been working anymore but since it did it was pretty funny to have him talking to May while fighting Electro.
I really love how since this is a younger spiderman he has all the confidence in the world when he's under the mask. But once it's gone he's a punk.
Oh and I'm glad that you get that old school vibe. That means American animators are getting off the anime pipe for a change.

I'm perfectly fine with the simplistic character designs because it means we get much smoother animation in motion. Take Spidey's web-slinging scenes, or when he was going toe-to-toe with Fancy Dan. My jaw hit the floor because it looked flowed so freaking smooth. Spec Spidey's animation OWNS '90s Spidey animation. Of course I guess that wasn't hard to do.
Norman Osborn is pretty ballsy in Spec Spidey. Vulture had him hundreds of feet in the air and he still refused to apologize and pay him. He even insulted Toomes. Freaking great!
Can't wait for Doc Ock to show up. He's gonna be fat Ock in this version. Bout time. Has there even been fat animated Doc Ock?

Since you (RH) mentioned some easter eggs earlier, I did hear Spidey refer to himself as The Amazing Spider-Man, which was an obvious one, but funny given the name of the show.
I hope Ock hands Spidey his first loss. There's no real reason for them to do it that way (again), but it'd be sorta nice.

Yeah a TON of easter eggs are in the first episode. On the chalk board in class you can see the names of the first 3 eps of this season. This was something someone pointed out to me on another message board.

The action in that last episode was quality material. This show has made the bad guys in Spiderman's world much more interesting. This is also better than the MTV Spidey cartoon, since this is bound to last more than a few episodes. It was a shame that previous Spiderman cartoon was stuck on MTV...a network that happens to be run by some of the biggest morons in the television industry....ah, such a terrible network that is. Y'know it's actually even worse now? Most people gave up on that channel several years ago, but I was still watching....it's too bad even for me at this point. I'll still check the Hills from time to time though, just to check on my baby Audrina Partridge....I'm rambling way off the topic now. I look forward to how they'll handle a Venom storyline. That's probably the big one they'll save for a season finale with a cliffhanger.
*I actually had a dream that I had Spiderman powers last night....swinging through the city on webbing was more difficult than I would've imagined....I was actually terrible at it, and nearly hit the ground on several occasions. Sometimes I would scrape the damn street from shooting the next webline a bit too late, or making an incorrect judgement about the distance, height, and momentum, etc. It was strange, exciting and hilarious all at the same time. Dreams are so much better and more fun than reality.

The only thing, so far, that's been bugging me about this show is that each villain ends up being a one-episode wonder, and I feel like they're going to start running low on new content pretty soon.
I also hope they don't even touch the Venom storyline at all this season. It's still too early, and they haven't even done Green Goblin yet. I personally feel that Green Goblin would make a good season finale while the Venom hype can stick around and wait for the end of season two.

It could work, actually, as long as he doesn't kill any villains. It feels kind of like the way The Batman started, with a new villain each week until all the majors get introduced and then switching over to a more plot-driven show with repeat villains.

We'll already have Venom by this season's end. But they are already working on season 2. With Greg Weisman and his crew on the show, I don't think things will get stale anytime soon.
Like the rest of you, I was very pleased with Shocker. Who cares if Her Schultz isn't in the suit? Montana Shocker worked just fine.
I liked the advice Norman gave harry towards the end of the ep. He basically told him to grow a pair of balls when he said "cowboy up." I was surprised to see Norman give Harry GOOD advice.

Betty is the broad in the newspaper office, right? Yeah, she's alright. Gwen has the geek appeal, plus she's naturally the more realistic goal for Peter, since Betty is apparently 20something already. Plus there's the fact that we know he's supposed to Bone™ Gwen eventually anyway. Geek appeal goes a long way in my book. There should be more geeky, nerdy girls...I'm usually a fan of those types.

You are correct, Sandman is voiced by John Dimaggio.
I don't think we'll see Cardiac or Tarantula at all. Greg Weisman and crew said their main inspiration for the show comes from the Lee/Ditko & Lee/Romita era. I never liked Tarantula so I have no problem with him never appearing. Ever.

One thing I really like about this version of Spidey is that he's cocky when he's in the suit, and seems to really get a kick out of being Spidey. Why shouldn't he have some fun in that suit. I loved how he was making fun of Shocker, Marko and Ohirn.
As for Spidey taking a lot of hits, well it happened a lot in the early comics, but that's what the spider-strength is for. He may not look it, but Spidey can take a lot of abuse.

Good ep! I didn't know that black chick was Glory Grant in ep 2. And she's voice by a familiar VA, Cree Summer. She gets all the black roles.
The school parts were among my fav. Loved seeing more of Gwen's feelings for Peter come to surface. She wants him to ask her to the spring formal or she wants to ask him but he doesn't know she's alive. You just know he's gonna end up going with MJ and Gwen's face will hit the floor when she sees her. I'm hoping we get some of the Gwe/MJ rivalry for Peter's affections that we did in the Lee/Romita days. :wgrin:
Sandman was good. Bender did a great job voicing him and that's pretty much the way I imagined Sandman to sound.
Anyone else digging Hammerhead? He's much better than '90s Hammerhead. Sure he's just the Big Man's right hand man, but he's freaking AWESOME!
MJ gets mentioned again and Peter cringed. I don't think she'll show up until a few more eps. I want her in the show like NOW, but the more they prolong it, the better it will be.

This is the best cartoon on television. I don't even know what's 2nd. This show has done to me what the old X-Men cartoon did. It makes me wake my ass up on Saturday morning to watch it. On the day I have off and I want to sleep in, I roll over before the show come son and say to myself.....
"Shit! I can't stay asleep..... I have to watch Spiderman!! :yay: "
The theme song is in my head after every show. It's catchy, despite not being that great.
I see Gwen & Peter getting together as an eventuality. I see MJ getting with Harry at first. The kid is paid and he's gonna be on the football team. MJ's gonna like that. They don't go to the school, so who is she gonna know 1st? I think it'll end up being Harry.
The fight with Sandman was (again) friggin great. The changes of Sandman after he got hit were pretty cool. Oh and something that I noticed...... Peter punched Sandman right in the face...... and the cartoon showed it! They didn't star it out like they used to do Dragonball Z. Ending was a bit anticlimactic but really..... how else was he gonna defeat the guy?
And ..... there's black people on the show! Hooray for black people in cartoons! I wonder how the black guy ended up 2nd string though.... did you see the diving catch he made? WTF..... how do you make a guy 2nd string after that? That coach should be fired.
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

^with MJ, that's also a good way to get Harry to resent Peter Parker even more.
1. Dad seems to like Parker more.
2. Parker nearly stole his chance to shine at football practice.
3. The incident with Parker ditching Harry and the rest of the crew to take pictures of Spiderman for cash.
4. Parker ditches Harry's tutoring session.
5. Parker is smarter than Harry...one of the reasons Dad likes him more.
6. Harry gets a little something going on with MJ....but Parker eventually steals that from him too.
Basically, Peter becomes more and more of a giant douchebag from Harry's perspective..and jealousy runs wild like Hulkamania....then comes more resentment, and pure hatred eventually....all very good foundations for a Season 2 or 3 villain. This is good stuff, folks.
Oh, and I was loving the interaction and silly banter between Spiderman and Sandman. This has become my favorite Spiderman show already. The previous shows have nothing on this, except superior intro themes. (*the real deal was "Spiderman and His Amazing Friends" back in the day. I have it on mp3 of course.)
---------------
I didn't really want to make a whole thread for it....but today's Legion was OUTSTANDING. Business has damn sure picked up, folks. Things can never be the same again, unless they go the Dallas/Bad Writing way and say it was all a dream or something. Even though it was destined to happen, this was one of the best "heel turns" I've ever seen in a cartoon...actually, that's kind of rare in the first place. I need to get that recorded. Part 2 is next Saturday. For those that missed it...."Brainy" finally reverts to his true self, and has become THE supervillain. Imperiex was awesome ever since the new season started...but of course he was instantly jobber status in comparison. Brainiac "deleted" him like it was nothing. For him, it was Tuesday. I had to say it...I had to go there.

Damn, I'm pretty sad to see Legion go. Today's ep was seriously outstanding. Spider-Man was very good too, but Legion was the better show today.
It looks like they're even going to bring in Solar Superman next week to take care of Brainiac. I hope they blow the rest of their budget on that one fight, since the taste of Supes versus Brainy today was pretty cool (until Supes got owned). I was also pretty disappointed with how Imperiex went out, but I guess there really is no other way to get rid of someone like him. I'm imagining that everyone who gets "turned into data" will be restored by the end of next week.

Now that Harry is on the team, I wonder: will he distance himself from Peter to stay cool? Randy already seems to think Peter is alright.
Peter's actions around his friends continue to be some of my fav part, rivaling the action scenes. Will Gwen ask Peter to the dance? She is soooo crushing on Peter and he is too blind to realize it. Man, I can't believe stuff like this gets me up on Saturdays.
Spectacular Spider-Man is the best cartoon on Saturday now. Period.

First off, RIP Legion. The first season was kiddified and only had two or three really good episodes. Season two raped the hell out of it and while not JLU great was definately on the course to it. At least it will end on a grand note, although I wish I could have seen one more huge Imperiex fight.
Next, Spectacular has to be the best superhero show in years. Usually, outside of the DCAU, they take a while to get things right, ie The Batman, Legion, Xmen: Evolution, etc. But this show has hit the ground running and despite looking less mature than some of the previous shows, has displayed more depth in a handful of episodes than any I can remember.
I mean every fucking character seems to be on point. I have hated Hammerhead since my introduction to him years ago in both animated and comic form, but here he is dope (despite being ugly and not having a flat head). Osborn is a goddamn gangster and after his brief debut/cameo I can't wait to see what they do with Doc Ock.
isn't this the only animated version of Sandman?
nah sandmans made an appearance in like every version of spidey thats animated.

Truth and then... I can't wait to see what they do with Doc Ock.
I Love Doc Ock. He's so adorable. Like he just seems to love his science but it's putting him around bad people. Awwww. Reminds me of absent minded Sumdac from Transformers Animated which has also turned out to be quite the show. It doesn't have Spidey's depth but the characters are really solid.
So did all the great writers on tv run to cartoons or what?

The 90s cartoon never had Sandman and almost didn't have Electro, due to a botched movie plan.
I like that they exploded Sandman in the creation scene. It was obvious to anyone who's familiar with the material or who thought about it for two seconds that they weren't actually going to kill the guy 8 minutes into the episode before he could become the villian... But there was a good "oh shit" moment where pre-powers sandman basically fucking exploded, and it was clear that something had gone horribly wrong. It's would be to easy to censor something like that, but it still came through loud and clear.

Dito on the Sandman transformation. Was even better than the Lizard's. Man, they continue to amaze me with the stuff they do on this show. Dr. Octavious was like "Oh snap! What have we done?" Like he was gonna pee his lab coat. Norman is like "Scool, man. We sweep up and move on."
Million, what did you think of Gwen crushing on Peter and him being totally clueless about it? Poor Gwen. I feel sorry for her. I think part of what keeps her from telling Peter she likes him is her being a bit nerdy. Peter seems to go for non-nerdy girls, despite most of the kids in school still seeing him as a nerd. Gwen is gonna feel even worse when MJ shows up.
And Harry got himself a chick! And not just any chick! Kenny Kong's chick! Kenny is not gonna be happy with Harry.

It sucks, but that kind of thing is necessary for storyline....another thing for writers to play with for awhile. That scene was still somewhat believable though, as Gwen's actions are still subtle...unlike your average 80s movie/show where the girl is so obvious...and you have a main character that comes off as stupid for not noticing the situation.
The arrival of Mary Jane should force Gwen to step up her game.....eventually becoming more bold with her strategy and tactics. This is interesting to me....she's still shy and a bit too scared to really put herself out there. She can only afford to be that way because there is no real competition at the moment. Parker has it made with 2 really good options here, one of which just hasn't shown up yet. ...and once again, I find myself to be jealous of animated characters. There will be no broads competing for me, unless I use money to orchestrate that scenario....but of course that's another "oh my god you're so emoooooo" rant and topic for another time.
Who are the bitches responsible for Legion's cancellation? They should be bound to a wooden post and pelted with shit from various diseased animals.
Really, were the ratings just not good? Sometimes I forget to consider the fact that little kids have amazingly bad taste....and unfortunately...they make up the bulk of the Saturday morning audience....so perhaps it's their fault? I don't know, it just makes me want to burn and kill things.
On a random note, what do you guys think of Eon Kid? I sorta like it. The dubbing is a shame, since the show uses 3D models it's super obvious that the show is dubbed. But I like the robot character designs, and the fights are good.
Talk about shitty intro songs, though...

Million: I'd mark it down for three broads possibly on the Parker tip. Liz (anyone else surprised she is a latina?) has shown interest but seems more committed to staying on the popular side of the kids. I could see that change down the way and Peter seems interested but eventually the Gwen and MJ thing will over take Liz.
TS: Eon Kid is a dope show. It has some lame characters that appear to waste time, when there should be violence and the dubbing isn't great, it is servicable. The show has some nice action, the main character rips fighting game moves each episode and the main plot while not original is well told in more than a couple places.
A lot better than I was expecting since some of the characters look like Mega man clones and rejects, but it surprisingly marital arts heavy. It isn't Avatar: The Last Airbender good but it is a solid second as far as non anime adventure cartoons go in my opinion.

I enjoy the "megaman-ish" look of the characters there, and the fights/action are great. Eon Kid was another reason Saturday morning recently became good again. I'd like to see an action game based from this show....but unfortunately all Eon Kid games would likely be some half-assed garbage released only for the DS since the suits would assume only 8 year olds watch it. Games based on things aimed at little kids are usually trash that no one with any kind of taste would want to waste time on. It's why I gave up hope a long time ago about there being a truly good Power Rangers game based off recent seasons.

I really hope that MJ isn't white. They've been soo good with all this interracial stuff that seeing MJ as something other than a redhead would be a total shock. Maybe an indian red head? Asian perhaps?
I watched the first 4 episodes of spectacular spider-man.
It's okay in my books. Aimed more towards a younger audience then the 90's Spider-man. Looks like they're keeping it more down to earthl then the 90s version. Also enjoying the Peter Parker side of things in the spectacular spider-man version.
I really hate how Spidey never threw a punch in the 90s version. All he did was try to web up the bad guy... and the bad guy would just break out of the webs.
I really enjoyed the MTV Spider-man series. Music was pretty neat and I really liked the cel-shaded-like animation.
Still though, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited are better by a mile.

I'm really liking the new show a lot. Even though they are going through the villains quickly, the writers are setting up something pretty big with the Kingpin. And like other people have said, since he's not actually killing off the villains, they can always come back. I do like how Spidey is oblivious with the "bigger picture." It's also nice to see Spidey as a smart kid rather than a super genious like the 90's cartoons.
On a side note: Why are there TWO Superman's in LoS? I don't watch the series, but that's really weird.

Don't know why they didn't use Mon-El but I guess it is because they wanted to do some different stuff that wouldn't fit the character. Like how they were tempted to use Hawkman as the badguy for the Justice League: Starcrossed movie but decided to just make someone up. I am guessing that had there been another season we might have seen Superman X get killed off or turn evil at some point. Hell there is still room for the former to happen next episode.
And I do agree he is a cool character, I wish they'd had longer to develop him more. I'd love to have seen an big fight between Superman and X, since X is immune to kryptonite.

The Spectacular Spidey opening song has grown on me. I'm humming it and singing the lyrics in my head.
Anyone that thinks the '90s Spidey Toon is better needs to take the nostalgia stick out of their anus. Reused animation and stiff character movement really hurt that show. I didn't realize it at the time but man, did it hurt that show.
Spec Spidey has fluid animation and get this: Spidey can fight!! No more constantly getting thrown or just webbing up the bad guys. Years from now, I believe this will be THE Spider-Man cartoon.

No, they are seperate villians. Despite the name and the yellow suit, Shocker's powers are supposed to be creating vibrating shockwaves (in other words like a visiable kinetic waves of force) while Electro is all about the electricity.

If this MJ is going to be the party girl I think she is we could be in some really good Betty & Veronica moments. And yeah, it sucked that there was no Spidey this week.
The ending was fine, didn't feel like a legitimate cliffhanger, like the previous episode. What got me about legion was how Brainy becomes human?
Like, wtf? Maybe it's because I don't read any DC books and missed 90% of the episodes of the series, but from my end, it was a complete WTF.
As for Supes, I was thinking they'd let him go into the sun, to get powered up by the rays of the yellow sun etc., though I don't know if it was Earth's sun he was being sent into.

Yeah, I also thought he would be revived via yellow sun radiation, since the Legion should know how his powers work and wouldn't blast him into a red sun for no particular reason. The blood transfusion thing was absolutely retarded.
I also liked the homage to Red/Blue Superman, but I'm not sure I liked Dual Super Saiyajin Superman.

I damn near yelled when I saw that they weren't go for the insanely powered up Yellow sun bathed Superman. The fusion of the two Supermen wasn't bad but I wished they'd had more room to fight.
Although the episode was filled with some dope visuals, crucified Brainiac 5 hanging by all his wires pulled out, Lighting lad, Sun Boy and Cosmic boy combined attack tearing through Brainiac's giant body and the ending while it teases at a future the show doesn't have was well done in my opinion for what was probably meant to be a season finale.
Shit it was better than how Teen Titans left off. A shame that the show just started getting good and it gets the ax.
I was pissed a little they didn't show a new ep of Spidy, but as suspected the Rhino debuts next week and that should be entertaining. I am thinking the new episode should be at the regular time with a repeat taking Legion's spot.

This is like the best animated kids show on television right now. All the jokes from everyone. How well done all the action is (that Rhino Drop was amazing). And just the current bigger story arc. When Spidey walked in Mr. Lincoln's office and they showed a glimpse of his face I was like, "Tombstone?!" And then he turned around. "TOMBSTONE!" And after he announced who he was I was just about floored. Omg at that fight. It was so dope. Spidey got his ass handed to him. He hasn't had his ass handed to him all season. No one has owned him that hard yet. And then now he looks like a jack ass for attacking Tombstone. And Kingpin still hasn't shown his face yet. Damn the Kingpin is a fucking force in this show. He's like untouchable. I'd also think that this is the best costume for Rhino so far. No cheesy rhino skin and not cybernetic cables popping out everywhere. But if he can't take the suit off, does that mean the Rhino just poops n' pisses in his pants?
I love it.

Today's episode was freaking awesome! The fight with Rhino was just great and I loved how Spidey defeated him. I thought he was somehow gonna tear off the Rhino's hide, but using steam & heat to exhaust him was good.
We finally met the Big Man, who turned out to be Tombstone. This version of Tombstone is already worlds better than Tombstone STAS! This version is freaking tall and he's wearing a black suit, as he should be. The one in STAS was dressed like he was gonna raid some tombs. And man, I did not expect him to have the cops on his side. Totally did not see that coming. Well at least Spidey will have Captain Stacy on his side. Yeah, that was him, the dude in the blue suit with white hair. :woot:
Can you guys believe aunt May? Dang, that is one is one sneaky old biddy! She blocked Peter from Betty so she could set him up with Mary Jane!! But since MJ is hot it all works out!
And I think Harry knows something about his dad's dealings with criminals. See how smug he looked when he closed the door on his dad's "meeting"? Boy knows something is going on.
Can't wait for the next new ep. Gwen will be crushed when she sees Peter show up to the dance with MJ and Eddie may think Peter lied because he didn't wanna go with Gwen.
Also, it sounds like Octavious just made an enemy out of Norman so he may end up playing a roll in the doc's "accident." Screw Amazing Spider-Man comics, this show is where it's at.

I love what they have done with show and the direction they decided on. And now it's getting ready to take the show in some dark territories with Spidey learning what's really going on around him and that if he wants be the hero he thinks he is, he's gotta step his game way up.
But he finally gets to see Mary Jane. So how bad could it really be...
Spectacular is THE CARTOON right now.

Ok, I have to finally admit that the theme song grew on me.
*one thing that never grew on me though...was that theme music for Power Rangers Operation Overdrive. It's not only the worst PR theme ever...it's seriously one of the worst tv themes I've ever heard in life. Look it up on youtube if you dare.
back on the topic....Eddie Brock apparently wants a piece of Gwen's ass? I think he's aware of the situation (Peter not noticing) and is trying to swoop in and pick up the pieces.....get that rebound. I have 0 shame...I'm all about getting the rebounds and girls with low self esteem issues.
Finally saw the episode. Tombstone fucked shit up. ...I'm not sure why he was like 8 feet tall, but it was basically too good anyway.
I liked how Spidey beat Rhino.
And Secretary > MJ.

Man they destroyed any notions of 90s Spidey being the superior with today's episode. The Rhino fight actually had Rhino as a threat and gave Spiderman a legit way to win to.
All the build up over the previous episodes I was expecting a black Kingpin a la Daredevil movie but then Tombstone enters the scene and wrecks Spidey physically, mentally and in the eyes of the law.
And Aunt May cock blocking Peter after he put in ALL that work on Betty caught me by surprise. I mean when she went there I figured she would fuck it up on accident but to treat Betty nice in the beginning and then to drop "Your too old for my nephew" had me agreeing with Pete, Aunt May is an evil genius. Although MJ ain't bad, Pete walking into a dance with 20 year old Betty would have been dope.

People are speculating at other forums that Tombstone may not be the Big Man and I think they have good reason to believe otherwise. He never said he was the Big Man and he always used the name in the third person. Foswell could have been trying to lead Peter away from the truth. The Big Man mystery may not be solved just yet.

Nice theory, but in the opening scenes Osborn used the name "Mr. Lincoln" and Hammerhead says something about not using the Big Man's name. Also, Rhino isn't the smartest guy there is. I don't think he'd intentionally lead Spiderman to Tombstone like that.
What I thought Tombstone was doing is covering his own ass just in case somebody was eavesdropping or Spiderman was bugged (no pun intended) so they can't catch him outright saying that he's the Big Man.
I would be interested if they made Tombstone the main villian, and The Big Man thing was/is a misdirect for the fans either way. But I wouldn't rule out someone being above Tombstone.

Isn't Kingpin always the Kingpin? If not this season then the next one for sure. It's the fucking Kingpin.

^
Kingpin loses and regains his criminal empire at the drop of a dime. At one point in the comics Daredevil stole it from him.
I agree with FOBio, the way Tombstone talked he phrased everything as a hypothetical. And I am guessing that was mainly to make sure he could deny actually admitting to being a major crime boss. I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of the season someone comes in and takes over as the major crime boss but it is great to see Tombstone actually an interesting character and not just muscle.

Need to see whatever episode(s) were shown.

As things are now, they cannot use Kingpin in this show as someone else owns the right to the character. Doesn't bother me, though, because if they can make Tombstone that much of a bad mofo in just a few short minutes, I'm all for him being a crime lord. Props to Greg Weisman and crew for having us play guessing games in a cartoon. :woot:

I was in and out watching yesterday's Spidey but I did see........
Rhino vs Spidey fight was hot!! The long fall and Spidey saying "NO!" and trying to save him was real good. Rhino ripping through an entire building.... also real good. Spidey beating Rhino with his brains...... Awesome.
Tombstone vs Spidey = Beyond awesome! If it was wrestling I'd say it was a squash match. Uppercut into slam down into foot on the chest and some shit-talking. Then he caught the pool ball Spidey webbed in his hand and crushed it. I'm pretty sure my jaw dropped to the floor and I wet my pants when I saw that.
I STILL don't like Spidey taking so many hits and not getting his ribs busted or at least his costume getting ripped. BUT..... the fights are so fucking great... no... not merely "great"..... they're EPIC....... so I can overlook Spidey not getting injuries. And it really seems like Spiderman is gonna be taking a turn down some darker stories in the future.
Oh and I forgot to mention something with Spiderman that I thought was the greatest thing I've seen in a comicbook cartoon in a long time..... when the episode began Spidey was chasing some goons down in a car and one of them......
PULLED OUT A GUN!! :wow: :wow: :wow:
This floored me! There weren't even any guns in Batman:TAS.
As for Peter, again, the intereaction is awesome. Oh May Parker, you sneaky mastermind. "My dear..... he's too old for you. Bye!" AND I thought it was REALLY COOL how JJJ held off Rhino from seeing Peter. I actually thought he was gonna snitch on him but it was done really well with Triple J gesturing with his hands while distracting Rhino by talking. And of course, I wanna do Mary Jane in the butt. And we all knew the "Face it tiger, you just hit the jackpot!" line was coming a mile away.
This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:
I honestly think Tombstone and Kingpin are rivaling mobsters and Kingpin will be introduced later. However, if Tombstone is the main mob boss villain, I'd be o.k. with that. Afterall...... Kingpin is known more for being Daredevil's main adversary more than Spiderman.

Just saw the latest episode...the series just keeps getting better. Tombstone was beastly.

uh? their were plenty of guns in batman..shit the opening had guns. what was he gettin shot by...nerf darts?
Yeah, hella guns in Batman. Though I did notice it in the new Spidey episode, and was also shocked and pleasantly surprised.
Spider-Man is supposed to have superhuman durability to some degree, but how much will change depending on the show/writer etc.

Maybe he was thinking of The Batman, which probably didn't have guns.
Anyway, I also think that Kingpin and Tombstone are rivals. Tombstone is a great main villain for now, though, but I think we can all guess that Osborne, Brock, and Octavios will outclass him soon enough.
well hasnt tombstone always worked for the kingpin in comics? i think the animated he was played up more of a mini boss...so i can see them being rivals this time around. but in the end he usually ends up a lacky to kingpin.
