UPDATE ON USING THE WII FIGHTING STICK WITH BRAWL:

100% impossible.

The game apparently needs a digital analog to recognize, and said stick does not have one. All the buttons work, but the stick itself does NOTHING outside of literally giving you taunts, so it reads like the d-pad on the classic controller minus the two nubs. A shame really, but oh well.

Went to my GS tourney.

Lot of fun.

Lost in the second round to a less skilled player, but oh well.

I got comboed by the meteors in Luca's Final Smash. They hit me 3 times consecutively. It totally sucked. Then there as only like 15 seconds left.

Also character select was random and they used tournament mode. lol@GS.

They also only had one set-up. LMAO.

Anyway, I don't care that I lost as I only did it to pass the time.

But I learned a valuable lesson.

Transportation is sucky and unreliable at best, so I'm not expecting to nab the game immediately. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up it up within the first week or so.

Just got back from a GS tournament... worst tournament that I have ever been to (but it's to be expected, seeing as how it's a GS tournament.)

It was default characters (two were unlocked, Ness and Marth), all items, all stages, Wii Nunchucks, single elimination, etc... My match in the first round was against a Fox user, I was 0.1 seconds away from advancing to the next round (we both flew off the stage at the same time, on Sudden Death, but I barely got off first.) I don't know who won, didn't care, really. The Nunchucks suck, I couldn't short hop, kept tripping, couldn't find where some of the buttons were (even though I knew ahead of time.)

I'm not going to complain about the game, since it's way too early for that, but that tournament left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Just got back from a GS tournament... worst tournament that I have ever been to (but it's to be expected, seeing as how it's a GS tournament.)

It was default characters (two were unlocked, Ness and Marth), all items, all stages, Wii Nunchucks, single elimination, etc... My match in the first round was against a Fox user, I was 0.1 seconds away from advancing to the next round (we both flew off the stage at the same time, on Sudden Death, but I barely got off first.) I don't know who won, didn't care, really. The Nunchucks suck, I couldn't short hop, kept tripping, couldn't find where some of the buttons were (even though I knew ahead of time.)

I'm not going to complain about the game, since it's way too early for that, but that tournament left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Got done playing a crap load of matches in Brawl. I got to the third round of the tournament(theres only four rounds), but I ended up losing to my friend by one kill(which happened to be the only kill of the match).

Oh man, I just got back from my GS tournament, It was mad crazy, Everyone was just so extatic with the damn thing. Everyone cheered those crazy hits.
It kinda sucked though because we only used random characters, 1 minute matches, and wii + nunchuck control. I ended up using Kirby and I was able to get to the 3rd round, where I barely lost to a DK. I had 1 kill already but during the last 5 seconds, he got a lucky hit that sent me off in the air, and I got killed in second 2. So we went to sudden death where he got me with a cheap punch. I was like, damn so close, hehe It was fun though:rofl:.

MY GS tourney experience sucked. I dunno why but I seriously felt like a cripple using the wiimote and the nunchuck. I couldn't find the jump button or the special button, and I had like no control over my character. I made it to the second round where it went into sudden death and I tried to shield grab this guys running attack only the R button on the Wiimote was actually the B button and I did metaknight's tornado right into this dude's running attack FTL.

Fuck that shit. Atleast I went over to my friends house and raped people when I had a GC controller. Worst tournament I've ever been to.

On the other hand, Brawl is tooooooo much fun.

Anyway, I've been playing it for the past two hours--why did Daylights Saving Time have to changed to today this year?--and I've noticed some things already:

I'm liking Link and Zamus a lot and not liking Dedede and regular Samus, although I figured that would happen.

The Fish on The Summit is freaking lethal even if it doesn't eat you since it seems like its whole body is a hit box.

Gordos can be destroyed just like Waddle Dees or Waddle Doos.

The CPU does seem smarter or, at least, more aggressive and conscious of items and attacks and invincibility.

The lava wave on Norfair is actually relatively easy to dodge.


I'll try to be more specific when I begin focusing on my main(s), but right now I'm still trying to unlock Snake at a friends before I turn off the game for now.

We played everything on default except we did 3 stock matches. We hadn't UNLOCKED the ability to set a time limit on stock matches yet, so some went a little long... but:

Fuck all the whiners and haters. With less than a few hours experience, he and I had evaded EVERY SINGLE "unfair instant KO blah blah blah". I was baiting his final smashes and dragoon shots with dodges easily, and when I did get hit, I was almost always near 100% already anyway, so the loss of the stock wasnt a big deal. He even wrecked me so badly that i got 3% damage on him with Spicy Curry, because he just handled me. Running away from starman players isnt that hard either, and if they are faster than you, they will probably have a hard time smashing you anyway. I dodged Marth's FS, Zelda's FS no problem.

Most of the godly items can and will backfire. Clock would slow me down as often as it did him, so it was a risk. Watching him mindlessly attack the smash ball let me hit him for free a LOT.

100% impossible.

The game apparently needs a digital analog to recognize, and said stick does not have one. All the buttons work, but the stick itself does NOTHING outside of literally giving you taunts, so it reads like the d-pad on the classic controller minus the two nubs. A shame really, but oh well.

Your Wii isn't reading SSBB because you have a Wiikey installed you jackass. It doesn't support original dual-layer discs. Wait for a firmware update for your chip.

You can hold whatever the shield button is on your controller or you can try and do up and down taunts alternatively really fast mid-match.

The former is quite a bit easier at this stage.

Can someone please elaborate on how to properly do 'tilts' in this game? I keep getting smash attacks.

Besides what Keits says right after this post, I would like to emphasis that if so possible, try and press it slower than you would normally do for a smash attack.

I know that helps me a lot for dealing with overlap and you get more leeway in Brawl because it's a "slower" game.

only if you use the totally inadequate wiimote only setup. Even though this feature is programmed into the game, the option to separate them on other controllers is not there, nor is the option to play using d pad.

It wasn't a total loss for today. Luckily my kid brother doesn't have wireless at his house so he brought his unmodded Wii over and we were able to play for a bit. He unlocked everyone on his machine already, so when he gets his copy when he goes home, he'll have everything.

The goal of this topic is to inform people how to unlock as much as possible in as little time as possible. I had another topic on this, but I used the rather unreliable cheats and secrets section to compile it. This time, I used brawl central's info. For those curious, yes, this is DEFINITELY the fastest way to get the full cast and stage list. I can't say it's the most fun, but efficiency is our goal here. However, if things can be gotten without costing any time, provisions will be made to get them.

Start off by going into vs mode and setting it to Stamina Flower. Give the AI 1 HP and yourself more than 1 HP. Pick Donkey Kong and play on Shadow Moses Island for 15 matches. After five matches, you'll unlock Ness, after ten you'll unlock Marth, and after fifteen you'll unlock Snake and the Snake Eater Instrumental track. Switch the stage to Yoshi's Island (melee) and play 5 more matches. After three more, you'll unlock the Super Mario World demo, and after five more you'll unlock 75m (DK arcade). 20 matches total.

Now switch your character to Kirby and play 5 more matches on Yoshi's Island (melee). After two more, you'll unlock Luigi, and after five more you'll unlock Jungle Japes. Sticking with Kirby, play the next ten matches on Pokemon Stadium 2 to unlock Pokemon Stadium. Now switch to the Halberd and play five more matches to unlock Green Greens. 40 matches total.

Switch to Luigi and play five more matches still on the Halberd. You'll unlock Luigi's Mansion (3 matches) and the Goruda music (5 matches). Next, switch your character to Peach and the stage to Mushroomy Kingdom for 10 more matches. After 3 matches, you unlock the Super Mario Bros 2 demo, after 5 matches, you unlock Falco, and after 10 matches, you unlock the underwater Mario music. 55 matches total.

Play the next 10 matches on those default stage builder stages (character no longer matters) to unlock stage parts A. Play the next five on Frigate Orpheon, and then you'll unlock Captain Falcon. Play five more on Frigate Orpheon, using Captain Falcon this time, to unlock the Metroid Ending music. Switch to Port Town, and after five matches you'll unlock Big Blue and the Peach's Castle (melee) music. Your character doesn't matter anymore, but play five more matches on Port Town to unlock the music track "Dream Chaser". 85 matches total.

Switch to Castle Siege and play 15 matches to unlock the track "Powerhungry Fool" after 10 matches and Lucario after 15 matches. 100 matches total.

Unfortunately, things slow down a bit here. Character and stage don't matter, just play a bunch more matches. After 60 more, you'll unlock R.O.B., and after 100 more you'll unlock Ganondorf. After unlocking Ganondorf, play 50 more to unlock Mr. Game and Watch and Flat Zone 2 and 100 more to unlock Sonic and Green Hill Zone. 300 matches total.

Play the next 10 matches on Green Hill Zone to unlock some Sonic music, and then continue playing matches on any stage until you unlock Jigglypuff (350 matches total) and Toon Link and the Great Sea stage (400 matches total). Play the next 10 as Toon Link to unlock the Ocarina of Time demo and then 40 more with anyone to unlock Wolf, All Star mode, and the Menu 2 music. 450 matches total, and you now have all characters.

Now let's get the remaining stages. Head over to the events and beat event 8 to unlock the Route 1 Pokemon music and keep playing event matches until you unlock the next set. In that set, beat Event 19 to unlock the Mario Bros. stage, event 13 for the Legendary Air Ride music, event 15 for King Dedede's Theme, and event 18 on the difficult setting for the Dark World Death Mountain / Dark Woods music. Play a few more events to unlock the third set. Beat events 25 and 28 to unlock Spear Pillar and the Electroplankton stages respectively. Congrats, you have all stages (as well as the random stage option)!

Based on current unlockable knowledge, this is the quickest you'll get all characters and stages, and you notice you get a lot of other random stuff along with it. I could keep going, but the whole purpose of this was for people who just care about characters and stages so they can just play a lot of multiplayer. I hope at least one person finds this helpful. I might update this after we have complete information on unlocking everything so more random things can be easily squeezed into the plan. My only concern is that evidently you have to unlock the alternate rules select which is really important, but nowhere seems to have information. If someone who gets one of the earlier posts in the topic could mention that, it would be swell.

I knew that Brawl was slower and more floaty than Melee, but I thought it was something I could simply adjust too. But I am having serious difficulties getting the timing right. I can't short hop or fast fall consistently.
