Am I the only one that thinks Gief is broke?

I know the game will change, but as of right now, the videos (could be due to shitty players), make gief look really over powered. I think the one with Ken vs. Gief in the "ken's full ultra" thread, Gief just looks like a complete powerhouse... I'm scared, officially. I better work on my 720s

Well Gief hasn't been super strong in a lot of his games so I think it's time the grappler got his dues. The only SF game that I can think of that he's seriously good in is Alpha 3. He was pretty good in some of the older SF2 games but he hasn't had too many games since ST that he's been really strong in. Every other game he either is just barely playable or decent. Time for a grappler to take the top spot in the tier list again I say.

I think it's because most videos are of arcade mode, some of them are anyway. Plus no one has a real grip on the pace of the game yet. Setting off a high priority grab move is reasonably simpler than trying to time a normal attack in an engine you're not used to. I think if players knew the correct ways to poke and zone Zangief, he wouldn't be half as scary as he looks now.

It looked fairly easy for Ken to do all of those jump-ins on the lariat. That is supposed to be hard to do, but Ken did it without worrying. I think that the players in the videos are not playing as hard as they can.

Also, in Alpha 3, Gief sucked ass, so I think it is not too bad to make him a little bit better.

I've seen Japanese SFZ3 videos. I've just seen a lot more Gouki, Ken, Sagat, Chun, and Dhalsim with V-ism.

well the 360 damage looks beastly as always. i dunno though chun looks like she still has the same beastly normals like she always does. of all the buttons mashed i didnt see a c.hk which is sad. we'll just have to see.

4 Real, i had a hard time playing against my brother because he's Gief player, and SFA3 is where he's at its best. I aint got to worry bout Gief in SFIV. Game's not complete, there will be some changes. But for now Gief is nice.

What really scares me about Zangief now is that he can EX his piledriver now. Capcom never gave Hugo anything of the sort in SF3. At 1:33 in the characters trailer (http://youtube.com/watch?v=isPzYX4UcIk). He jumped over Blanka's electricity and EX grabbed him out of it. Looks like it does some good damage too in the Guile vs. Zangief video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd5Ys44Efv4) around 1:00. Anyone seen any clips to show how much it actually does? Guile just up and died after it in that clip. :looney:

The EX piledriver and The EX green glove attack adds more spice to Gief....

well, that in mind, i've yet to see any good players attempt to play teh game. i've seen a few who have a good idea of how to play, but have no application skills. but, i get what you mean, which si why i was attempting to be as hypothetical as possible

Seriously, the Ryu, Ken, Chun, and Rose are supposedly top, but a good sagat, gief, rolento, guy, charlie, and akuma can fare very well against them. Dhalsim and Dan are considered the bottom of the pot, but they can still hurt you if they play defensively. I played Alpha 2 a LONG time ago (98-2001) and I could wreck havoc with Gief or Sagat. That game is one of the most balanced SF games.... I think ST is the most balanced, then A2, then... i dunno... hyper fighting maybe.

Yeah - I meant A2 gief was pretty well second tier.

And I am right there with you in regards to your opinion of A2's quality.
