Which should be Ono's priority in Development of SF4 next to gameplay?
Gameplay is everyones no. 1 priority and choice among anything and the aim of balance among each other from mechanics and everything that lets you enjoy every battle from anyone.
EX. Parry, Counter, Tag, Techit, Gauge, Dash, Run, Damage
I know majority here are tournament players enjoy challenges But some of Street Fighter fans/players among the years and have different opinions and preference when playing a fighting game and different reasons of enjoyment besides challenges.
Characters- the numbers and design of fighters that is include in the game.
Ex. concept, design, moves, supers, playability, fighting styles, accesability, tiers
Storyline - a fun factor of the games, additional entertainment or rewards
Ex. Plots, Individual Endings, Mid battles, Battle speeches, Intro matches, Cinematic endings, Easter Eggs, Canon base.
1.) Gameplay Mechanics, Storyline, Character
Fighting games that have average numbers of characters but each one has a very strong plots which are well focus from origins of the past games and very detailed based
conclusions/endings/confrontations. Usually this game format is use traditionally on the first installment of capcom fighting games.
Ex. SVC Chaos, SF3NG , Tekken 3, SFA1, SFA2, Xmen COTA, Garou, Fatal fury, KOF annuals, SSFA R(GBA)
2.) Gameplay Mechanics, Character, Storyline
Fighting games that have a variety of characters sometimes around 30 or more disregard plots, Endings are comical or sometimes it does not have, does not have mid battles or
easter egg secret or bunoses. Usually this game format is use traditionally on the last/final Installment of capcom fighting games or compilations.
Ex: Original ST, HSF AE, Virtua F, SFA3, MVC2, CVS2, Tekken 5 DR, Tekken TAG, KOF Dreammatches
I choose number 2 which Gameplay, Character & Storyline. Because i love lots of characters, fighting variations and different choices when challenging. i don't like the fact that always the first installment of a SF game like SFA & SFNG had a lack of characters which have few variation fighting styles and i don't like Sf4 to be somewhere like SFA1 or SFNG but we have different opinions. Thank you.
Edit: I just put a similar poll on Capcom bbs lets convince ono what he should priority. please!
Thank you for voting

Gameplay and character go hand in hand.
SF3's extravagant cast worked well in SF3's play style but I seriously doubt that Honda or Blanka would perform well in SF3's system.
While in SF4's system, Honda and Blanka will do really well under those rules.

Storyline!!! I Wan A Massively Multiplayer Sf Rpg With Epic Story!!!!
The year is 19xx.... Shadowloo has been brought down, but signs of it still exists. The world is in termoil and a disc has been discovered. An unknown person speaks that in xx years, a half fire half ice super bad guy will arrive to Earth.
Choose from a selection of 30+ pre-designed avatars with their own unique fighting builds already implemented in this first epic SF MMORPG! You are the World Warrior and you will travel online and fight against many fierce opponents as you train to prepare for the epic battle of Earth's survival!
Battle outcomes will be determined by the character you select. Learn which one has advantages over the other, and choose wisely for each battle!

i wouldnt necessarily say they wouldnt work i just think its a weird concept to grasp since they arent in it. im sure certain things would have changed for them to give them a fighting chance.

I think its safe to say that everyone will choose 2. When was storyline ever the main focus of Street Fighter?
Besides that, if gameplay is first, then characters would need to go directly behind that, because the characters affect the gameplay.

They could sure redo some of the chars faces. SF4 has some of the ugliest looking faces in fighter history. they need to make some changes, my goodness ryu looks like he was hypnotized LOL  And wow, i'm not gonna even go to chuns face looking broke!:looney:

The problem is Ono likes it and thinks it adds character to the fighters. Though it's really stupid and ruins the look of the characters.

Don't banhammer me....but option #1 will sell way more copies than option #2.
As much as character design is important to fighting game players, the mainstream audience nowadays want overly cliched, ridiculously intricate storylines to compel them to play a certain character....or even play in the first place.
How do you think piles of turd such as Soul Calibur III managed to be one of the most successful games of that year, it certainly wasn't the crappy gameplay or the fighting styles of the various characters, it was the stupid storyline and the create a character function.

sometimes i wonder why Vladimir Putin gets so much shit for "compromising free speech". free speech is great but the fact is people would eat an extra meal a day if all it cost them was their "right" to air contentious, inflammatory or ridiculous opinions. free speech is a luxury that shouldn't come at the cost of solid well-being.

Option 2
And Thats what Ono is doing, he did not even talk about the storyline....
He just said that the game takes place after the SF2 tournament, thats it. Now he's working more on the characters...
anonther easy question to answer.

Option 2 ..... SF has a storyline????? lol
I dont think SF is intelligent enough to encorporate a storyline hand and hand with anything else. Getting the gameplay right and as close as SF2 (witha hint of SF3) is more important to the fans/fanbase.
Questions:
if all storylines were scraped, would anyone care?
detailed backgrounds, character history/goals dreams important? i.e. does knowing what motivates your fighter have any relivance in SF anymore?
Though...I would like to see more...
Ryu training with Oro
Alex, urien, Gill/ illuminate powerstruggle/destiny type stuff

Motives/Plot/Reason is ok since a character can have the same plot as always from the past game like ryu wants to be stronger, guile wants revenge that simple by using the plot again and again is ok for my opinion rather than taking it seriously.
About that Ryu training Oro and etc. There are times that it was really the Storyline that limits or hold back the characters appearance and playability due to many various FACTORS like Timeline(SF3 & SFA), Universe(RS), Death(Dictator,Gen) , Age(Yun, Yang) & Accomplishment(Guile, Cammy & lots of SF2).

Well storywise havn't numerious characters already reached their goals? i.e. chun li, guile etc - Dictator being dead and all...
The wanting to get stronger plot has been done to death in a number of games... but its Ryu so meh.
I think storyline will motivate a character and lead to further change and development... meaningless of timeline. I didnt really think timeline was a problem in SF.
To my knowledge its SFA>SF2>SF4(WTF?)SF3>
I admit seeing SFIV takes place between SF2 and SF3 is like wtf is going on?!

I have read somewhere that there was a problem on the SF3 series thats why it took so long to get SF4 due to fighter popularity.

I disagree. I think that free speech is an important prerequisite for producing the best state of well-being. The highest states of physical or biological well-being have come in societies that prize free speech, and certainly the highest state of mental and spiritual well-being can only be attained when free speech is possible. Putin's Russia can reach a better of state of well-being than Russia has had in the past, no doubt, but restricting civil liberties like free speech creates a ceiling beyond which its well-being cannot rise.

I know many of you might think Why did i brought up this thread?Despite i know many would choose '2' over 1 because traditionally the first/initial SF game in a sequel example is SFA1 & SF3NG are games that has lack of characters and those games were Very Storyline Driven(connection to the last sequel) rather than anything.
I just really want to show to capcom how much people would choose and valued variation fighting styles over those canon.

I would be very disappointed if we do not get more new characters. If 2 new characters is all we get then it does not deserve the name of 4. It would be just an updated version of part 2.
In all sf games they always start with a handful of new characters.
