Hello guys, this is my first post. I haven't really been into the 2d fighting scene until I had a chance to play in the arcades, and realize that there is a whole friggin scene revolving around 2d fighting games that I was unaware of. Anywho:

http://cube.ign.com/articles/433/433536p1.html

I'm thinking of getting one since someone is selling for about $20. I guess the aspect being able to connect with three consoles is what appealed to me. I was wondering how this handles with stock parts, and if the parts are easily swappable with official arcade parts? Will the somewhat universal PCB cause problems?

Also, I wouldn't suggest anyone telling me to get something better because it's hard enough to find a decent arcade stick Vancouver, so if you're gonna come in here for that at least mention the problems with Nuby's first.

For the price I don't think I'm getting much, but I was wondering if it's a good stick to keep stock or modded in that price for a guy new to the whole scene.

Complete garbage. Shit parts that won't last and not even good for modding.

Save your money.

I've never used the stick so I can't really comment, but by looking at the pictures, the buttons and joystick both look to be on the cheap side, very unlikely you could install sanwa gear in it.

Plus I don't like the shape. :shake:

Well, you can remove the 3-system PCB and put it in a proper stick. That stick itself (which is available in a King of Fighters theme as well) is indeed crap otherwise.

Well think about my situation. I cannot find anyone selling an arcade stick near my area. I've searched everywhere.

It's either spend $20 now and get a crappy, but ready to go arcade stick. Or spend over $140 and wait for days, weeks, months, probably years till I either:
A.) Get a slot in one of the custom builders here
B.) Keep waiting and waiting and waiting until someone with a good arcade stick dies near where I live and leaves his arcade stick intact
C.) Buy a good arcade stick in eBay and bite the rip-off shipping, with the chance of missing parts that the seller left out.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to be the guy spending $$ all day at the arcades and not letting anyone go near me because "I'm mastering my joystick"

Think of it as like playing a harmonica. A beginner would not want to start off with a $70 harmonica, but they can break cheap $10-$20 ones and consider it as practice.

I have one. It's crappy for 2d fighters but feels not bad with 3d fighters. Depends on what you're playing.

Not very modable I must say. I suppose the PCB could be pulled and used in a custom stick, as it does support 3 consoles.

save your money and get a decent stick. a custom might be expensive and youd have to wait a bit but at least you get a good product that will last you a long time.

Or you can just buy an hrap2 and put some buttons in which would take even a novice about a half hour total.

Yeah Hrap2 sticks aren't common in Vancouver

Sp00ky

They aren't common anywhere. But I don't know where you get the impression they take months to get. Plenty of stores still carrying them.

Also your harmonica comparison is a bad one. Playing on a bad stick is a waste of money and so is learning on one. Spend the money and get a good stick from the beginning.

It seems you're fishing for someone to tell you to buy the stick, which probably isn't going to happen here.

It looks like crap, and you'd be much better served putting that 20 bucks toward a good stick. And I doubt anyone here would disagree with me.

Seriously go with K-Man. Don't get impatient if you don't have the money for a good stick now save until you do. A stick is an investment in your play.

Let me qualify my stance a little more thoroughly.

I've never played using that stick. But by looking at it I can tell that the buttons are probably the rubber contact type and I'm assuming the stick is of the spongy non-microswitch type. People buy sticks to improve their game. That stick will not improve your game, and will most likely make it worse because of the inaccuracies due to the substandard construction. So what do you stand to gain by spending your 20 bucks here, besides some pretty art work?

I understand that sticks are hard to find locally in your area. Hell, i'm from the butthole of Tennessee, so finding sticks locally wasn't an option for me either. I joined this site a few years ago. I had my mind dead-set on ordering an x-arcade stick with a few converters. Upon doing research on the stick, I discovered this site (and all the bad things people had to say about the stick). At first I played it off, thinking everyone here were being elitist and that the x-arcade would serve my needs just fine. I had tossed around the idea of commissioning a stick from a few builders, even speaking to some about it. Ultimately I had a lot of trust issues in sending a complete stranger 150 bucks for a stick. So I decide to buy nothing at all.

Fast forward to a few months ago when the announcement of SF 4 rekindled my interest in 2d fighters. This time I had the expendable income and wanted a stick. I had a T5 stick to approximate the feel of a japanese setup, but I wanted a straight up "American" setup. After flirting with the X-arcade idea again, I decided that people at SRK probably knew what they were talking about in regards to the X-arcade. So I ended up with a MAS Stick. Even with my problem with the dreamcast converter not working with the stick (DC being one of the main systems I purchased the stick for) I don't regret the purchase one bit. I've got a ton of 2d fighters on ps2 and a (near) lag free converter for ps3, so the stick will still earn its keep. The stick is absolute quality. The experience of using it could not be remotely approximated by a 20 dollar stick. It isn't pretty (I think MAS sticks are terribly ugly), but it does the job so well that I frankly don't care what it looks like.

I tell this story to make a point. I had almost convinced myself two or three years ago to ignore everyone's advice here and buy an X-arcade stick and some converters. If I had gone through with that I am sure I would have regretted it. Instead, I bought nothing, sat on the idea for a while, and in the end decided to go with a 99 dollar MAS stick that will last years upon years. I'm not a hardcore player. I don't compete in comps and I play for fun. Even still, the MAS stick I bought makes the experience all the more enjoyable for me. I'm not saying you should buy a MAS setup, but it was affordable (comparatively) and it satisfied my wants for an "American" style setup. I'm assuming I'd be just as satisfied with a custom or HRAP.

And finding a stick isn't as hard as you make it out to be. There are always sticks being sold in the trading forum. I see stick builders all the time with open slots on here. Also, I purchased my MAS stick (in stock) from Arcadeshock.com and it got here in about a week.

I guess ultimately you need to ask yourself if this hobby is worth spending 100-150 bucks on to get a lot more enjoyment out of it. My investment increased my enjoyment immensely. However, I don't think spending the 20 dollars here would give you much more than headaches and frustration. And I certainly don't think it would improve your game in the slightest. You honestly might as well continue to play with a gamepad.

You will find that a lot of the people that post here at SRK have informed opinions and are for the most part very helpful. I don't think people would intentionally lead you astray on this.

I've been in your situation before, wanted a stick but didn't want to spend much money on it. So I bought a crappy $20 stick I saw at Gamestop. It was usable but sucked. So I said to myself, oh well it's just $20. So then I buy another crappy stick for $10 I saw online, and said the same thing to myself. Eventually I bought enough crappy sticks that I could almost afford a HRAP. So I decided to just save the money and over 2 years ago I got a HRAP2 and Sanwa buttons, and I haven't looked back since.

Per should be doing pre-orders on HRAP2 SAs. It's probably gonna be like 120 bucks including shipping and you won't have to mod it at all cause its a full sanwa
