Trainer, Pika, Juggly, and Lucario.
I'ma start out by saying Lucario > all of them.
EmblemLord
03-12-2008, 06:35 PM
Nope.
Lucario is not the best.
PT is the best.
But saying Lucario isn't the best isn't saying much since he looks to be high tier material as does pikachu.
PT will be no less than high tier IMO.
But I think he is top tier material.
Jiggz....is ass. >_>
Or so I'v heard.

Yeah, Jigglypuff got the nerf bat.

So which of the 3 PT pokemon is supposed to be the best. Hopefully its Charizard, because I like him the most.

PT is good, but he's not better than Lucario (on my "list"). Not in my hands, at least. In other news, I find Squirtle the weakest of the three PT Pokemon.
EmblemLord
03-12-2008, 06:44 PM
Eh.
It's really close.
Ivysaur has a very gimpable recovery.
Honestly I think it's between Charizard and Squirtle.
Squirtle is very fast with some decent kill moves.
Charizard is very powerful and he isn't slow at all really.
Good AAA combo. Decent smashes and his specials are solid.
He also has really good tilts that are very fast.
Honestly Charizard is a serious contender for the best of the three.

Yeah Definitley between Charizard and Squirtle. im leaning more towards squirtle. Good combo potential, fast air pokes, and speed. Ivysaur's up smash is pretty powerful though.

Just a few things I've noticed with Lucario:
-His counter gets stuffed on the first few frames of start up(as does Ike's). The energy-charging sound plays but Lucario still gets hit.
-You can counter pikmin if they are clinging to him. And since Lucario gets a bonus when he gets higher damage, this is an interesting match. If you counter the clinging pikmin then you will teleport kick where you were, not where Olimar is. Pikmin guarantees a counter activation, if they cling then you can close in with something extra under your sleeve.
-I have a love/hate relationship with d+Air. Sometimes that shit beats out characters on both sides of him but will often get stuffed by attacks BELOW him. And you can get a D+Air on the ground by pressing holding down and pressing Jump~A. I haven't found any real applications but I have been doing AA~Instant D+Air into some followups but I didn't verify if it was an actual combo. I love small jump f+Air~d+Air. Sonichuman and I call it HM2F2(Hold My Mother Fucking Feet).
-Fully charged Aura Spheres get canceled out by one pikmin.
-Back-turned charging Aura Sphere actually hits. I can't wait to see the combo vids.

he Pokemon Trainer's pokemon all get fatigued at about 2 minutes, even if you dont move them. They all show visible signs of fatigue: Charizard lowers his head and wings. Squirtle drops his front hands to the ground. Ivysaur's bulb withers.
Once fatigued, a Pokemon becomes much slower.
Squirtle kicks ass for his run -> shield -> up smash

Yeah, when your pokemon get tired, they visibly hunch over and start to breath heavy. I noticed moves had a ton less knockback and damage to them as well. It's just hard to switch out pokemon safely, so its best most times to not, unless you can get some distance or a knockback to buy some time.
I personally like to start with Ivysaur, bullet seed is too good.

Honestly, switching out isn't that difficult when you need to, it's just a tradeoff: do you want to give your opponent a free recovery?
Agreed on starting with Ivysaur, I do too, same reason. Once you get some damage going, launch, switch to Charizard. You'll probably have significant damage on you too, and Ivysaur's recovery is untrustworthy at best. Charizard's glide is a much better choice.

Like Kirby, in Brawl he's not as good as his godly 64 version, but much better than his garbage Melee version.

Pikachu overall seems to be a solid character. He's probably my favourite of the original characters.
Here are some improvements I've noticed:
- D-Smash is quick and much stronger than before in terms of knock-back and damage, it can actually KO now. It also launches them almost straight up so you can normally follow up with Thunder if it doesn't kill outright.
- F-Smash is extremely strong and seems to have as much range as Marth's.
- U-Smash is weaker than in Melee, but it can be used a as launcher for combos.
- N-air comes out quickly and is pretty strong, so you can probably KO with it.
- F-air has nearly no start-up and very little lag so if your opponent shields it you can either try to grab or use neutral-a.
- D-air is strong and sends out a little shock wave upon landing that pushes away anyone nearby.
- B-air does good damage and has a vacuum effect on hit, so you're pretty much guaranteed all the hits land.
- Thunder got a major buff in this game. It's stronger, comes out much faster, and has a lot less lag when it ends. Overall it's pretty spammable now.

Jigglypuff recieved 2 MAJOR NERFS THAT MAKE HER UNPLAYABLE!
1- Sleep is awful now, people like to say "it does alot more damage now with that dot it got buffed!" the only problem with that is that the only way for the dot to do you any good is if your opponent DIDNT DIE FROM SLEEP, therefore it fails.
2- SHE NO LONGER HAS THE CROWN!!!!

She most certainly is not.
I love Pikachu in Brawl so very much, he's quick and has great chainability. Everything flows into everything else, he can pull some nice air to ground and back to air stuff, and his DSmash is almost Melee Peach like in it's efficiency.
Jiggz is fun too, I'm still having trouble getting DAT REST. What makes things worse is that the hitbox is larger, but it feels much harder to hit with. WoP is still nice, and her air game is as good as it was in Melee.

Sleep is still hella good. It KO's around 50 to 70 for most characters which is good considering the average KO is around 100+ for most characters. Plus the hit box is much bigger now and there are some very solid setups for it.

Her are some rest setups:
-Short hopped Dair into sleep
-Pound short hopped into sleep
-Reversed running rest (like a reverse Bair)
-WoP off the stage into rest(on a stage with water)
-Uair, Fair, Bair, Nair into rest (after stale move degradation)

You said combo, so I know you are a lie.
Dont get me wrong I still love da puff, she was my main in melee, (and im still deciding between her, D3 and PT for main in this one) but i dont really see "an equal amount of buffs to nerfs" rollout mini-buff is not = sleep nerf, but more than anything I WANT MY F@#$'n CROWN BACK!

What? That doesn't even make sense. Jigglypuff can combo from the middle of a stage all the way off the screen with Fairs and Bairs. She can even combo off the top with Uair and pound. Plus she has easy combos into rest for some quick KO's. So you can't tell me that Pikachu honestly has better combos then that.

Rest did not get nerfed! In Melee rest could KO at like 10 while the average KO was around 80. In Brawl rest can KO at 50 while the average KO is around 120. As you can see the damage difference is pretty equal. Also the hit box for rest is bigger, she has less lag afterwards, and it launches completely vertically upwards. This means you'll no longer accidentally kill your opponent horizontally and allow them to punish you before you wake up. Plus if you do rest in the water it cancels all your lag. But most importantly of all your opponent no gets a little flower over their head which does damage if you didn't kill them :razzy:. So in general I feel that rest got more buffs than nerfs.

First thing I did when I got Brawl was play as P. Trainer.
Wow. <3
P. Trainer is pretty bad-ass.
As most of you already know (I'm assuming) he isn't affected by Stale Move Negation due to Pokemon Change.
And to be good with him you actually need to be good with all 3 pokemon..for the longest time I heard people wanting to main a certain one. Agian something I'm sure you already know.
I play a pretty decent P. Trainer (ask Tigerboi) and I switch when the mood arises.
Or when one of my Pkmn gets the ole KAY OH.
I usually start with Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtle because at the start of a match he can rack up fast damage. I pretty much play them in order now that I think about it...
Soften them up with Squirtle....Clean up Squirtle's mess with Ivy and rack up the damage for Lizardon to give the headshot.
But yea...P. Trainer is beastly. Hands down my favorite newcomer next to Snake.
EDIT CANCEL: Some more shit about P. Trainer.... (my bad if it's shit you already know..I just feel like contributing)
Squirtle's F-tilt links to his AAA combo.
Uncharged Water Gun does damage...like 12%.
Squirtle's D-Throw + High Percentage = K.O.
Ivy's Up tilt has invisibility when shes off the ground. I used it to dodge a Marth d- tilt.
Bullet Seed is fucking brutal. But you all knew that I'm sure.
Razor Leaf = <3
Up Smash, Uair and Dair = OMFG KAY OH.
Fair kills as well.
Lizardon's F-Air is a good jump in.
Flamethrower can be angled up or down. Good for trying to keep people in for the duration. (Bowser can do the same)
Up-tilt links to Up Smash.
and...thats all I can think of.
Again..my bad if it's shit you already know.

I like using Pokemon Trainer, although I'm not very good at any of the Smash bros. games. Some things (which may be old) that I noticed...
Charizard - Forward B move is a lot better than I thought. It hits twice and the rocks that get crumbled is also part of the hit box. And yes, his down smash is pretty nasty.
Ivysaur - Up air is pretty damn insane. Up Throw into Up air has given me a few kills. Anybody use bullet seed while on the edge? It's not really edge guarding, but if your opponent is clinging to the edge and jumps, simply bullet seed and it's a pretty safe way to put in more damage.
Squirtle - I don't really like using him, to be honest. I do start the match off with him, but that's just to start things off. I'll switch if/when I feel I need more damage and will rarely go back to Squirtle. I can say that his up smash is really good. I think his down air is a good move, but I don't quite know the priority yet.

try wavebouncing the forward B it makes for a pretty retarded poke.
Other than that charizards d-toss holy crap at the knock back, and same goes for any of his attacks with his tail if you hit them with the fire spot.

google wavebouncing basically press forward B then immediately press the other direction and experiment around with it, with some chars, this is almost a must with others its just a neat extra to your game. Its pretty obvious when you wave bounce you immediately reverse your momentum.
