I think you can change the Zero Laser's angle. I noticed it while my brother was using Samus.

Yes, you can. Not sure how to do it yet, I assume push up/down while it's about to go off.
The only Samus experience I got last Tuesday was in the one fight in the last level of SSE, so I don't have much. She hasn't changed much though. I don't know if this was in melee, but her missiles can randomly come out as Super Missiles: these are NOT homing, but they hit like a busload of Donkey Kongs and move pretty fast. If there's a way to predict these, they're a serious KO move IF you don't deplete the power of your missiles too fast.
Charge Beam still KOs at fairly low percents, but beyond that she doesn't have great KO ability. Fsmash, Bair, and Dair seem like your killers. She can use the Grapple Beam in the air to poke: this is a RETARDEDLY good poke that leads to many setups. Honestly I think she's the character that has the best meteor usage in this game, between her DAir, the air-to-air grapple beam, missiles, and a Charge Beam she has sick mixups on their recovery. Most of these work on your way back, too, and additionally the grapple beam will grab an edge. Edgehogging Samus is generally a Bad Idea from what I can see, so you shouldn't have to worry about that getting hosed unless you're in a VERY bad recovery situation.
Keep a charge beam up as often as you can. For one thing, it stops an edgehogger cold. Get low, fire --> grapple beam. Either he rolls/drops and you grab the edge, or he dies from being banked off the side of the stage and you grab the edge. :P
From vids I can see her bombs are still quite useful for recovery, especially if you recover high.

^ so essentially she is an excellent edge guard. I also tend to spam bombs alot with her especially when returning to stage upon hit.

Homing Missiles are much better than Power Missiles this time around.
D-Tilt is now the secondary KO move now, it kills earlier than even her Charge Shot... which is freaking sad when you think about it.

^ Abuse Screw Attack and Air Grapple Beam. If you get hit mid-range do a bomb so that they rush into it or they wait for it explode which gives you breathing room.
TBH I've been slowing giving up on Samus. Her KOing game is just pathetic now, it actually bores me to play as her. -_-*

Power missiles aren't random, they're basically smash missiles, while Homig missiles are "Tilt" missiles.
Get your opponent over the edge and go for that meteor. That's basically the best chance for a KO.

samus is looking decent so far. haven't played a lot with her but it seems her aerials have less lag than most of the cast so thats a good sign

Screw Attack hella hoes. That's the key to my success. Samus only has two good KO moves now: her up-tilt and her f-smash. Her bair is also good, but it's only good as a trick. People can fuck you up if they see it coming. Same deal with the Screw Attack.
is there anyway to play as zero sam without having the armor? from the char. select screen?

Hold R or L when you select Samus. When the match starts her armor will come off, and you can use it as a projectile :tup:.

From what I heard it's still there. You can create a wall of sorts by homing missile canceling out of a short hop and firing two of them. Try it out.
also, Samus's grab game got a boost with the Pivot Grab. Dash forward, then turn around during the animation and press the grab button. Her grapple will fire faster and will have ridiculously low lag. BEst way to use it is to dash away from your opponent, then turn back around and grab them.

Bomb mind games are fucking rediculous. Thanks to the guys in the irc channel, my Samus went from mediocre to decent in a few hours. Yes, her KO options aren't there, but holy shit can she edge gaurd. Looks at the options.

So, SHADZ becomes a great approach vs other projectile spammers (Short hop air dodge Zair). Very very cool.
I think Samus is very underrated so far. She has quickly become my 3rd.

IIRC, ZSS is lower tiered than Samus, is that correct? And I really like Samus' original B move set, with all it's shitty projectile spamming. I really don't like having to trade in the character that I want to use to do a Final Smash.
Picking up a second Smash Ball as ZSS re-equips the armor though? I guess that's good, but it's costing you an attack opportunity just to get back to square one. Maybe it's just the way I'm thinking about it though.

Zero Suit Samus is currently high-tier, and Samus is lower-mid, so no. A number of characters can be put into a disadvantage or even kill themselves when they use a Final Smash, so it's not really an issue that Samus ditches her armor and becomes a better fighter.

Hit up the tier thread. But mostly it's due to Samus's inability to kill. I attribute it to Subspace's draining of her Power Suit's best functions.

Speed and ability to kill. ZSS has a very long range kill move and can effectively kill from anywhere in her range. Samus has to get close to land kill moves that aren't as potent.

charged shot is still a great kill move, and you dont need to be close at all to hit that. The reality is that most characters are trying to get in on samus, not the other way around. Once they get there, knock em away or KO.
True, but it takes a while for the Charge Shot to effectively kill. Seeing as how Samus can rack up damage with missile spam and such, this isn't a problem. Point still stands that she has a dearth of kill moves.

I think that Samus and ZSS got screwed in the Final Smash department. Zero Laser? Don't recall ever seeing that in a Metroid game....EVER. And ZSS just got gypped. Power Suit Samus...pff. Here's what I think would've been better for their respective Final Smashes.
Samus: Shinespark
I don't know why this isn't Samus's Final Smash. It makes SO MUCH FSCKING SENSE. She'd sprint for about ten paces, then go TOTALLY RAGE MODE, sort of like Wario-Man. She'd be able to do her Shoulder Tackle, her Ultra Jump, and her Cannonball techniques by using side-B, up-B, and down-B, respectively. It'd last for fifteen seconds like all the other shit.
ZSS: Summon Gunship
The fact that Samus can do this in Metroid Prime III is ridiculously cool, and there has to have been some way for her to do it sans the suit. I'm guessing there's a tracking device either on Samus or in her very bloodstream. Either way, she can call it remotely. That'd be the best Final Smash ever, just have it be like Grenade Launcher but with moar SHOOP DA WHOOP.

Samus has really good combo'ability. She can rack up damage like mad, and im finally getting the hang of it.
Dash A > Up+B
Up Smash > Uair > Uair > Up+B
Short hop Fair > Up Smash or Up-Forward Tilt > Up+B
And once they hit around 150%, easy kill with a charge shot.

Earlier today I played a Wario and killed him with a Super Missile when he was at 157%. He was recovering, halfway between the boundary and the stage, and I hit him for the kill and the win.
Just thought I'd throw that out there, since people are talking about Super Missiles being nerfed....

Samus is DANGEROUS when you are in the 150%ish range. And for her to get you that high is easy, as she deals a lot of damage and has more combo options that a lot of the cast (most strings of attacks leading to 30-60%

Yeah. I use an assload of combos with Samus. I also zone with her missiles. Mixing up homing and Super Missiles is actually a pretty viable tactic. Gimp someone's fucking recovery with those goddamn Super Missiles.

Gimping a PK character who's burnt their second jump with homing missiles is hilarious. I usually try to mix-up my homing and super missiles for the guaranteed charge shot. It's madd satisfactory when successful too.

What's even more fun is playing against a Toon Link. After he does his midair jump, missile him. Then he'll do the Spin Attack. Missile him. He'll keep doing it, and every time, just missile the fucker. Repeat until he either falls short of recovery, gives up and drops to his doom, or is flat-out boundary killed. I actually had a scrubby kid at LameStop tell me that Samus should be banned from competitive play because of that shit.

I just realized... When you grab the ledge with samus, there's a short amount of time you have to wait before you can climb the ledge.
But when you use your tether recovery, you can instantly climb up the ledge.

I tested that out recently, and it should probably be noted.
Also, what's the most reliable way to climb the ledge? Anyone? I usually use either the attack or the roll, but both are punishable. Should I just jump?

It seems to me that Samus has a good variety of ways to approach from ledges. She can drop, jumping f-air or u-air toward the stage if they're close (they combo well on hit). Rolling up and ledge attack are good depending on what the opp. will do and their position. I'll usually approach w/ u-air when they whiff an attack right by the ledge and they're unsafe, then I f-air if they're a bit further. F-air from the ledge should allow all of the hits to combo so the final hit should give some good knockback for Samus' zoning game.

I actually started messing around with her and have now picked her up as another character...I'm digging a lot of her stuff and when I play other people I'm surprised at how many people run into the charge shot lol. It's like as soon as they heard 'it doesn't kill like it used too' they heard 'it won't kill me at all!'. People still need to have healthy fear of a fully charged beam...I've blasted too many people point blank in the face and gotten ko's lol.
