Cheesy ass anouncers [Archive]

God damn it:

one thing that's really grinding my gears now that ive watched a decent bit of SF4 footage is that it seems they've gone back to the cheesy over enthusiastic 17 year old announcer straight out of a bad anime dub.

I know this may seem silly to some but the announcer sets the atmosphere of the game, and this is a FIGHTING game after all. Why do they insist on putting in some ponce to do the voice acting for the announcer? Never mind the god awful cheesy lines the give 'em (alpha 3)

3s has some cheesy lines too, but at least the announcer's voice was such that it didn't make me cringe when he said simple stuff like KO.

SF2 CE announcer was fine but then they went all cheesy, 3s was it getting better, but now they are going back again, wtf?

I havnt played every single streetfighter there is, any announcer that people considered decent? Or even worse?

3s had great announcers IMO.

Enthusiastic black announcer -> REALLY enthusiastic white announcer

I hope they change it too. Then again a part of me feels like they like having shitty announcers and that it adds to the charm of the game. The only game they got it right in was 3s.

CVS2 was especially bad..that guy sounded like he wasn't used to speaking english and had weird pauses in his sentences.

I actually liked the CvS2 announcer. He was cheesy, but in a good way. My favorite, though, is the GGX2 announcer. You think SF players have it bad? Listen to X2, then AC. Yeah. I always thought the 3S announcer sounded a little out of place. The game's visuals were so bright an cheerful, but the announcer sounded straight out of Mortal Kombat. He was a good announcer, though.

Really though, the annoucer shouldn't say much. They only need to say the round intros, and maybe something during the arcade mode. That is about it.

seriously, premade announcer commentary is the stupidest shit ever
-they get annoying fast because there's usually only half a dozen lines
-they never make sense, ever THIS BATTLE IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE! HE'S USING TEH POWER OF THE COMBINATION ATTACK!
-commentary sucks in real sports anyways

3S announcer did a perfect job. SFIV reminds me of A2, which I don't care for. I prefer a mature theme over Japanese. I don't like the visual effects of the intro before the fight and afterwards, either. Looks just like A2, again.

As I said it provides the atmosphere to the game, along with the music. But at least you can feckin turn the music off.

The announcer in MK is probably one of the best things about it. Another example is the announcer from Unreal Tournament, people loved that shit so much they ripped it and put it into CS.

So you can't tell me an announcer doesn't add to the.."coolness" factor of a game, or indeed, take away from it.

Of course it's not a major issue at all, gameplay is the real issue. But its up there with music at least.
