Yes, on April 8th, the Japanese Capcom blog for SFIV will notify the public about the next location and dates for the next loketest. It's been confirmed by several people already.

They're more publicyed due the huge hype. BTW, the next loke will be in a couple of weeks (no details announced).

Maybe they repeat.

I saw some HD vid and it looked a lot better than the stuff I have seen so far so I would love to see the game in person.

On the SF4 dev blog they stated that they were going to announce the next location test date, but because they're facing a "critical turning point", and they are really in the final push of the development of the game, so they're asking fans to wait just a little bit for a future announcement. In the mean time they got Daigo Ikeno to provide some sketches of C. Viper and her attacks, and they into detail about how she performs her moves. She's got jet boosters in her boots and her metal knucks emit electricity and all that.

The attack in the sketch is called the "Capital Punishment Combo", but how they're going to put it into the game, they don't know, but they were able to create such moves for SF4.

Damn, that looks painful. They should make THAT into her Ultra when the game's released.

How would it work? When she activates, she flashes and they get scared expecting a high/mid attack. But she slides underneath their legs (has to be blocked low), they turn around going "WTF?," and then it starts.

yeah the cards are good even when the final version comes out, they stated so when the cards were first issued. For this loketest it seems that only Ryu and Ken cards are available, but the downloadable wallpaper is Honda lol.

man I am so glad to hear that this game is like SF2, but I wish Guile was the more of the old Guile with the standing roundhouse anti air.

have you tried kara throwing?

obviously look for a few moves worth trying before you do though, anything that moves a person very forward fairly quickly.
if kara throwing works, try kara focus attacks.

see if taunts have any noticable effects.

can you low tech? (hit LP+LK while crouching, see what comes out and if it will tech a throw).

see if you can focus attack a focus attack, even an unblockable one.

can you focus attack cancel special moves? if so, try one after a throw whiff.

I'd like for the following things to be tested, concerning C. Viper


-Does she have a meaty normal--Crouching or Standing?
-I've seen Guile do rapid fire weak attacks (5-6 Crouching), does C. Viper have them or does she have links? If so--is it possible to 2 in 1 from any of them into special or supers?


Ken

-Can Ken link Short, Jab, Short into Shoryu Reppa?
-Also, is it possible to juggle his ultra from a dash cancel combo (Theoretic Example: Saving Attack, dash up into stand fierce into EX Shoryu--dash Stand Fierce into jab shoryu, as they're coming down--time the Ultra to hit?) I haven't played the game so forgive if my combo sounds ridiculous I just thought it would work according to the combo system in Theory.

-Can Ken still do low roundhouse into Zenpo Tenshin (roll)?


And, is Gief's stand Jab still AA somewhat?

can you find out if there are double srk in the corner with ken? Can you also look and see if mp mp is a target combo like in 3rd strike. Does Ken's air ex tatsu juggle into srk? Shinshoryuken? Does Blanks's air ball hit on the way down? Or is it like super turbo? I just want to play the damn game.

Yeah, I learned my lesson. :wink: I'll stick with English on the next feedback session.

I also hope Seth and other key SFIV people from Capcom also read these threads. I'm not even close to Seth's level in terms of skill and strategy, but I would hope that even a person like myself can uncover something that wasn't apparent before.

We got a great SRK Osaka wrecking crew out here, though... so I'm sure the input will be there for Capcom to see and read.

Some impressions of the loke test version from a couple Japanese dudes on 2Ch:

-The graphics and gameplay system have been greatly improved
-There are bee icons to collect
-There's massive slowdown everywhere (think Futari BL God mode)

四天王とルーファス (Shitennou and Rufus) are being reported on the Keitai player ranking site. Az, Reno, confirm?

El Fuerte apparently plays a bit like R. Mika with a button input super.

Hebitotsu ecstasy
Jumps diagonally forward into a multi-punch combo. Perhaps useful as anti-air. Ultra is some sort of wild dance.

四天王 refers to the "four kings" aka Bison, Vega, Sagat and Balrog. Rufus is also on the keitai site. I checked all of this via the character rankings on the SF4 mobile site.

Some info off the keitai site:

There is a new shop open for Color Variation. By using Zennys (currency you win from matches) you can purchase new colors for your characters. Every character has two colors each. I just scanned really quickly and noticed that Abel has all black and all white outfits, and C. Viper has a blue outfit now. There are also "stamps" you collect for playing at arcades. Right now there is a Ken wallpaper (? I think) that is available once you play one game at the location test site.

Ok cool, thanks for the info. What are the times this is going on? Also, more importantly, does anyone know when the trains stop? Because it seems everything shuts the hell down at 10 in Kyoto, and I'm wondering if its the same most places.

And it is guaranteed that they will be saying that because I am a major scrub at SF, I just want to check the new game out since I can haha.

The loketest goes from 10am until closing, which is like midnight. Trains stop in Namba at around midnight as well.

Claw: Classic SF2 style but a bit more muscular. One claw, not double.
Boxer: Very muscular, very Alpha-style
Sagat: Beastly, Alpha-style
Dictator: Muscular, SF2 classic style.
Rufus: Definitely a dude, very round. Mohawk and everything.

Well, let's look at M/F ratios in other SF games...

WW- 1/8
HF- 1/12
ST- 2/17

SFA- 2/12
SFA2- 3/17
SFA3- 10/37

NG- 1/10
2I- 1/14
3S- 3/19

SF4- 2/15

The ratio looks about the same when compared to other SF games. The only game with a freakish amount of girls is SFA3.

Well, Ono claimed there would be more female characters early on--so people are a little shocked that there's only 2 females in the game. Honestly, I mean at this point I guess people just have to hope more will be revealed prior to release. There's still a few months prior to slated release and we all know Capcom will hold off on things purposely to generate hype if there are more female characters.

Really, I'd just like to see footage of the new build, preferably some good capture vids. I don't get why thye dont want people to really see test footage alot. If a game is hyped people are going to want to see it--It'd be really nice to get some hi-res. Those sagat vids you could barely see him much...


To Reno, Az, Kunai, and co....thanks for the input regarding the game it's much appreciated for people that don't have an opportunity to play the game quite yet.

Apparently super guage and revenge guage have both migrated to the bottom of the screen. Character portrait on top of life guage now. Look of guages have changed too.

But damn, they seem to be taking a lot of ideas from Slam Masters now. First El Fuerte, and now a guy who sounds like a redesign of Jumbo Flapjack, who was directly conceived from HnK's Mr. Heart. He'd better be interesting to play.

Maybe they'll throw in all the "old" characters including O. Sagat so you can throw tigershots all day :rolleyes:

They might as well bring back deejay, cammy, and t-hawk for all of that. This isn't exciting in the least. To me at least. But thats just me. Theres a few people the game could do without, dictator being one of them. Especially if he's the boss. And he's supposed to be dead especially when every situation, he does die and Gouki sends him to hell anyways.

Oh well, keep the updates comin about the loktests, im lookin forward to them. I wanna know how El Fuerte plays.

Saviour kick = jump kick. Can be followed up by a sommersault which hits three times.

Ginga tornado
Spins a bit then moves forward and punches. If EXed, opponent is sucked in.

Hebitotsu ecstasy
Jumps diagonally forward into a multi-punch combo. Perhaps useful as anti-air. Ultra is some sort of wild dance.
These are El Fuerte's moves, not Rufus's. My Japanese isn't stellar but from what I gathered of the description of the Saviour Kick, there are three different followups; a somersault kick, a low kick, and a jumping kick.

Back at home for a sec, I was there for about an hour and will be back soon.

Jigsaw thanks for the corrections. Wild dance, lol. Those are Rufus' moves though, at least from what I just saw.

Um, vega (dictator) is really good. Teleport has hardly any recovery, cb+k is as good as ever, has jugglable j. MP. Went on a 4 game and 7 game streak with him. Tried out Rufus, who is a blonde big fighter, similar to that fat guy in Tekken 6 almost, but with a ponytail. I'm not really sure how he could be Chinese-American, he looks white to me but ::shrug::. His attacks are weird, one is a jumping multi-punch (Hebitotsu ecstasy or whatever) which yeah, sort of works as anti-air, then his milky way tornado is good up close. He spins and hits the opponent at the end. I believe Reno was able to follow up this move with other high/low attacks. More info on that later.

Saw some guy get a 7 game with El Fuerte, but all he was doing was running, doing the Vega esque vertical dive move and mixing up hit/throw.

Saw all the four kings, nothing especially notable so far. Ok, back to the arcade.

There are definitely new stages, I'm not sure how many.

They have a machine just for 1p matches, not sure if you can beat the game on it just yet.

Fuerte has a lot of running moves, as if he were running into the ropes and rebounding himself off.

Rufus is a round character with blonde hair, a ponytail, wearing suspenders (?), and his whole model jiggles this way and that hehe.

It was exceptionally ugly though. I'd be rather concerned if the face wasn't tweaked.

Those pics that were mentioned; while we can't access them, isn't it possible to like PrintScreen the page and host jpegs of the character pics? That may be overkill if we're they're about to reveal them anyway but there's a dearth of (visual) info.

It's difficult to PrintScreen on a cellphone. I'd say your best bet would be having someone take a photo of their cellphone screen, but that's just kind of silly, heh.

Random stuff from 2ch:

-Dictator is voiced by Norio Wakamoto.
-El Fuerte's moves apparently involves running around a lot.
-Characters faces seems to have been touched up a fair bit. Supposedly Ryu and Ken look much better.
-Claw is apparently also voiced by a famous voice actor (the poster said "I know I've heard this voice before")
-There's a Russia stage, set in some sort of concert/assembly hall.
-Dictator said something like "Do you want to join your friend in death?" to Guile. ("友の元へ逝くか!!!?")
-El Fuerte has been compared to Rainbow Mika as well as Maki from CVS2, what with the command run and all. "He's really difficult, cause he's so fast! He's like a cockroach, scuttling back and forth..."
-El Fuerte's Ultra has him standing on the opponent's shoulders, bending their body in "impossible-looking ways" in mid-air, before slamming into the ground. "Looks like it hurts!"
-Even when standing still El Fuerte seems to be moving about. He seems to be very vividly animated and apparently looks pretty funny.
-When he appears, Dictator floats down from the sky and says "このベガ様が相手してやろう" (roughly, "Lord Vega will fight you"). "His win quotes are perfectly Vega-like, too".
-El Fuerte has some kind of running attack that can trample the opponent, or be canceled/linked to a throw? Not really sure.
-I can't really understand the discussion about Fuerte's moves fully, but apparently for some reason he has a strong anti-air game.

I like the gameplay stuff I'm hearing and I hate the character design and choices that are coming out. I really want like 4-5 SF3 guys and it seems like we may not even get 1. That just sucks as a fan of the game. They really are making SF2.5 in terms of plot/story/characters.

Thanks for clearing that up. Either way he uses a lot of kicks and flying moves along with throws and stuff so that might be my main. I'm still not excited at all about all the original cast returning though. Dead people need to stay dead dammit! Replace him with Ingrid I don't care! Or please just change or get rid of a few characters. Why can't we have chinese boxing instead of american boxing? Or Krav Maga or Kenpo and new characters with them? Only 3 new characters doesnt do it for me. And this is supposed to be an August release?

It's cool for Dictator fans that he's back, but he really wasn't necessary. I pray to god T.Hawk and DeeJay don't come back. Rufus sounds pretty lame, but El Fuerte sounds like a great fun character.

Really really hoping for Cammy, some new females and some muthafuckin III characters. Dudley please for fucks sake!

Why does anyone think this was ever a legit problem? It started as speculation by people who don't know anything about coding/animation. This is a 3d game made in 2008 and you think there's going to be problem getting a claw on one hand to switch sides? Come on think for a second.

I actually don't care if the claw magically switches hands, but until video of him in action surfaces, may as well ask.

Judging by the character select screen it probably is. I was hoping for at least one more female character, but looks like that's not happening. Good news about Ken and Ryu's faces being touched up, overall I'm not exactly satisfied with the character selection--but this is what Ono was going for so I already knew that. I don't much about Rufus but he sounds like a clone of Wong Who from Final Fight, so more than likely I'll pass on him. Anyways, this only means that the game is closer to completion so more people stateside can play.


I look forward to the reports that will come from Team SRK...and I don't think peopel should get their hopes up for vids because more than likely there won't be any.

Vega switches hands with the claw magically.

Eating a single attack with Saving Attack works differently now. You still get a grayed-out portion of meter, but now it refills faster. The catch is that it refills if you DON'T attack. I am still trying to figure out other speculations... I believe blocking will also prevent you from regaining your grayed-out meter. An interesting twist, because that means more than likely you will have to decide on keeping the pressure on your opponent and hope you can somehow find time to regain your life w/o getting hit again, or you can stop... regain life... and lose momentum.

Revenge meter is the same. Proportional to your lifebar... if you're close to death, you will have a higher revenge meter. HOWEVER, Ultras don't take off nearly as much now. You are lucky to get 40-50 percent even if you have a closely maxed-out bar.

Yes, Ryu looks a lot better now. His face has been fixed and now he looks even more like the Ryu we know and love. Chun Li also got a major facelift. I read an interview where the art director said he spends so much time making Chun Li look good in this game. He wasn't lying. C.Viper looks the same as before but Chun Li looks way better than her because of added detail.

You can still do SA Stun => Dash Cancel -> Ultra. You do not flash anymore when you cancel, but I don't know if you use up super meter because of it.

Super Meter is now segmented into 4 parts, for easy reference to see how many Ex moves you can use. Of course, you can only use a super when it's filled.

I saw two people do SA at the same time, one person charged to level 2 SA, but the other person absorbed the hit and hit him back with lvl 3.

I cannot try out links because I am too retarded at playing most characters. I'm sorry. I still have problems linking C.Viper's electric punch to super. I never said I was any good.

Some info on Sagat... don't ever jump at him... tiger uppercut is good with no air-blocking. Tiger Knee is also a great weapon that comes out quick. His fireballs are slower than usual, though... but he's still good.

C.Viper changes:

EX Flame Kick does not have as much priority as before... last loketest, the EX Flame Kick hit an opponent who was too close, crouching or standing, and hit multiple times. It can be blocked, but it was good for chip damage. Now, it sorta floats above crouching opponents. Decent but a bit more random now (concerning how it hits).

Before, C.Viper's jumping attacks were pretty lame. She couldn't hit anything in front of her to save her life if she jumped forward, because the angle of her kick was too steep. Now, her jumping forward kick is pretty useful as a tricky cross-up. It will hit in front of her now.

You can juggle Fierce Electric punch to another fierce electric punch some of the time, depending on how the opponent floats. Sometimes they will drop like a rock, sometimes they will float enough for another electric punch (I only tried fierce).

So basically, some stuff is better for her, some are not as good.

I gave up on El Fuerte very quickly... he's too quick for me. He's literally on crack.

I don't think Rufus can dash, and if he can... it's not even noticable.

Claw has maximum spider ultra combo, not joking here.

Flip kick can't be juggled from what I saw. People tried to do flip kick anti-air, then another one, and it just didn't connect...

Claw's fierce is just deadly in any state right now. j.fierce has insane range and priority, and standing and crouching fierce look almost like half the screen.

Boxer's standing fierce doesn't seem to have the range that it used to have.

Sad to say for CvS fans... Sagat's c.fierce is nerfed, deal with it. :P

El Mexicano's j.fierce is insanely good for crossups. Extremely useful, and unlike Chun and Vega, he actually gains speed after a wall jump, it's pretty cool.

Gief seems unchanged right now... SPDs left and right. I actually pulled off blocked EX green hand -> Ultra and it connected... somehow.

First of all, they changed his style of voice... it doesn't sound nearly as cool. Second, the announcer says too much stuff... to the point where it's REALLY annoying. It's all in English, too. The announcer talks while you select your character, on the vs. loading screen, while you're fighting. He talks too much and the stuff he says is annoying (content-wise and voice-wise). It even drowns out the background music during the vs. select screen.

The old version from the last loketest was perfect IMO... they need to make it simple again. The announcer content is actually worse than Alpha3... A LOT WORSE. It really kills the mood of the game and detracts from the experience.

Rufus is MALE. I have confirmed this. He looks like Cheng from Fatal Fury, Bob from Tekken, Heart from HNK... you name it. He looks AMERICAN, but looks like a wanna-be Chinese fat guy. Whoever posted that in 2ch was misinformed.

He is a fat, obviously caucasian who has a half-beard (no growth on the chin, but has hair on the lip). Has one of those chinese hairdos where they are almost bald, but has a ponytail and a patch of hair. He wears a skintight suit that exposes his stomach and a patch of hair where his navel is.

I played him once... he seemed hard to move with but had a few good moves. It was mesmerizing to watch his fat move... he's built like an orange. I called him the "uniboob". It's like if you had a DOA girl, but she had one boob and the boob took up her whole body. With a patch of hair down the middle. That's Rufus all right.

El Fuerte was like Ramon from KOF, but hyper and way fast with the command run. He is dangerous if you knock someone down and play wakeup games, but he is high-risk with his attacks. His Ultra is not very useful, because he will jump in the air and can only catch a grounded opponent from midscreen. It is also slow, ironically. You have to leave yourself wide open to get hit from this.

He has an anti-air command throw, some moves he can do while running and that's pretty much it. We are trying to figure out how to make him successful, but it will be difficult because if he's running, he's very vulnerable.

Back home now. Some quick thoughts...

Network System - Changes and Improvements

-- They've added a contents shop where you can buy wallpapers, and new colors for your character. As of right now, everything costs about 1 zeni. There's also something about "stamps", but I don't quite understand it yet.

-- You can really customize your character. You can choose your main color, sub-color, you can choose which action they'll do when they taunt, and you can set which win quote they'll say at the victory screen (pre-set choices, you can't enter in a personal one).

-- If you're part of a guild, the guild name and picture will appear with your name, battle points, W/L record, and comments on the VS screen.

Graphics - Changes and Improvements

-- As was said, a few faces and details have been cleaned up. Ryu/Ken/Chun look A LOT better, and more like the familiar faces we've come to know. A few more details have been added, like a white smoke/energy trail following a shoryuken (my explanation sucks, but it looks good, honestly).

-- The Revenge/Ultra meter has dropped to the bottom of the screen, besides the super meter. The super meter is now partitioned to see how many EX moves you have (a full bar is 4 EX moves). At the top where the Revenge meter used to be now there's the character portrait. I think this is a pretty good idea, seeing as how the character's name disappears if someone's using a network card.

-- It seems like a few of the 2P colors have changed. Ryu is now dark blue/navy with the yellow headband. Ken is white (Daigo Ken!).

-- YES, at least two new stages. One is an outdoor industrial stage, sort of snowy, with people watching in the background. I think this is a Russian stage (Zangief?). Another...hard to describe, but the two fighters fight in a lower area while people up top cheer them on. It feels sort of like a cross betweem the poolside stage from Tekken 5, and Ken's stage from A3. In Guile's stage, we didn't see any planes flying overhead anymore, but we did notice the planes on the ground had a lot more detail and color. Though I didn't see it personally, Adverse reports that in Chun-Li's stage, there's an old guy riding a bike - if a character hits a big move, the old guy will fall off the bike, and get up sort of cursing the fighters.

-- It looks like some of the on-screen prompts have been jazzed up, like the "Ultra Combo Finish" text. Also, the win icons will reflect what kind of win you got - normal, super, ultra, perfect, etc.

Characters - Changes and Improvements

-- YES, the "Four Kings" (Shitennou) are in it and playable.

-- Did not see too much of Balrog. Didn't seem too different. His ultra is like a beefed-up version of his punch-rush super, but with the uppercuts. It seems to be able to tag people in the air and juggle them for damage.

-- Vega is reminiscent of ST. Once he gets in close, life becomes very, very bad. The claw magically switches sides as Vega does. J.FP has insane range and good priority. His ultra is a souped-up version of the wall lunge move - I saw it hit and I saw it miss plenty.

-- Sagat - C.FP is no longer the Evil Bringer of Retribution it used to be. Now, it's just a normal move. Seriously lacks pokes. However, Tiger Uppercut = too good. Regular version is one or two hits, and EX is Alpha-style multi-hit. Tiger fireballs, while gorgeous, seem to be a bit slower than before (no O.Sagat fireball traps). Tiger knee is fast, covers good ground, and doesn't seem to have any recovery. His ultra is an incredible version of the Tiger Genocide - after launching the opponent with the Tiger Uppercut, he lets them fall into a HUGE version of the Tiger Uppercut. Players today seemed to be hitting his ultra a lot.

After playing him a few times, I thought he was kinda dependant on being defensive. However, we talked to one of the best Japanese players there, who said that Sagat was strong. He then racked up a few wins with impressive usage of SA. Quite a few people were using Sagat today.

-- Bison. Some of Bison's animations are just incredible. He looks closest to his CvS2 incarnation. Slide and scissors kicks get out of recovery before the opponent gets out of blockstun. El-Fuerte - Holy crap, this guy is on crack and then some. Has a forward and backwards run. Has a move where he runs at the opponent, jumps up into the air, and then does a frog-splash on the opponent. There's another version where he will perform a command throw on the way down. Has a good anti-air move where he kick-jumps into the air, and if he catches the opponent, he slams them down with a neck-breaker/hurricarana (?). Has a wall-jump that seems to cover a lot of range, and he might have an air throw. Reno used him a lot today, but we sort of felt that he was lacking. We're sort of waiting for the Japanese players to break him wide open tomorrow though.

-- Rufus....yeah. Sort of like Bob from Tekken 6, or imagine Chang with Choi's moves or something. Saw him very, very rarely today. Right now he's almost like the Dan of this game, but again, I'm waiting to see if Japanese players break him open tomorrow.

Rufus is MALE. I have confirmed this. He looks like Cheng from Fatal Fury, Bob from Tekken, Heart from HNK... you name it. He looks AMERICAN, but looks like a wanna-be Chinese fat guy. Whoever posted that in 2ch was misinformed.

He is a fat, obviously caucasian who has a half-beard (no growth on the chin, but has hair on the lip). Has one of those chinese hairdos where they are almost bald, but has a ponytail and a patch of hair. He wears a skintight suit that exposes his stomach and a patch of hair where his navel is.

El Mexicano's moves

QCF/QCB Punch - Run backwards or forwards. Press punch again and a move comes out. Jab makes him stop, Medium is the body press (overhead), Fierce is a throw (hits standing and crouching). EX Run gives him super armor for two hits it seems.

DP+K - Anti-air throw. I think EX version just has greater priority and damage... haven't seen it do anything else.

Hold K (duration unknown) - Mexicano does a running body smash. Dunno how long you have to hold the button for, because i tried for 2 seconds and it didn't even come out. It seems best to use this after a saving attack stun.

Super is a bunch of backflips into a throw. For some reason, I think the throw you have to duck for even if you block all the backflips... this needs confirming.

Ultra combo is qcf x 2 KK - The stand on head thing. He throws opponent up by his legs, then comes crashing down with a slam.

c.fierce is his anti-air normal. Pretty good priority. I hit Chun out of j.short a couple of times with it.

j.fierce is a godly crossup. very good priority.

c.strong is his main cancel move. Good tactic that's been successful is c.short x run back x medium overhead when someone tries to poke you after blocking a c.strong.

The 1P only cab had more stages, like the "Shadowloo brewery". I shit you not, the stage has the Shadowloo logo inside a barn of sorts... with a rack of beer kegs. There's also some sort of German-like dude in a kilt nearby. If you get knocked down near the kegs, they will collapse and roll everywhere. The German dude freaks out.

Another stage is your typical "fight in a coliseum background with a television screen in the background showing your fight" stage.

Why these stages aren't in the linked cabs? Not sure.

I think that's a bit harsh... I'm happy SFIV is in an actual form. We could have had nothing.

Rufus is decent, but like El Fuerte, he is a new character who doesn't have much to him that is apparent at first. I think they could have potential, but they will be hard to master. They could use a few more options but we'll see what happens later.

Viper and Abel are solid IMO. Good design and pretty well-rounded.

Ono already mentioned that later they're gonna try to cram more older favorites in. This is the important time to lock down all the new character designs. It is SFIV, you can't just have all returning characters.

About characters, the way its set up now, there are the 8 World Warriors, the divider line thing, then the 4 bosses, and then the 4 new characters underneath them. I think there's still plenty of room to add at least 4 characters on both sides of the divider line. Who knows what that will end up as - the 4 New Challengers + 4 more new characters, Akuma and 3 random Alpha/3S guys + 4 newbies, etc. But I don't think the character roster is done yet.

Sounds like you're just hating....although i agree that some SFIII characters need to be in this game....lets not judge Rufus until we can confirm he's a joke character. Then we can flame the Capcom boards all we want and tell them how much we hate playing with fat guys in fighting games and how they wasted a valuable character slot that could've been given to someone else.

Otherwise, i think the improvements (better looking faces, balanced moves/damage settings, new stages, etc.) are fine the way they are right now.
Now...if we could only get *NEW MOVES*(normals, specials, whatever) for some of the old characters...then i'd be happy. But for now, let's wait and see.

Been begging for this forever now at the Capcom SFIV forum. There's no way a lot of these guys returning from SSF2 Turbo can come in without some new special normals, specials, and supers. This has to be rectified before the final build.

Great information guys :tup: keep it coming. I am getting so hyped for this game I can't hardly wait :woot:. I'm really glad that they brought Vega(Claw) back, but Bison(Dic) came out of no where considering Akuma was supposed to kill him. Speaking of Akuma (since he was mentioned to be returning in the game early on), I wonder why they haven't had him playable (maybe you have to use the code to play as him from ST...a thought anyway).

If anyone does have the time to try out Guile and see how he is coming along, it would be greatly appreciated by me and many other Guile fans here. Thanks to all of you for keeping us updated on how the game is turning out though. I cannot wait for this game.

El Fuerte was like Ramon from KOF, but hyper and way fast with the command run. He is dangerous if you knock someone down and play wakeup games, but he is high-risk with his attacks. His Ultra is not very useful, because he will jump in the air and can only catch a grounded opponent from midscreen. It is also slow, ironically. You have to leave yourself wide open to get hit from this.

That description of El Fuerte's Ultra makes me think of Alex's Stun Gun Headbutt from 3S since you say it is easy to avoid.

There's only one character design I haven't gotten the chance to see and I've read a good description of him and I highly dislike what I hear. Yes little bitches are clearly distinguished by their negative attitudes towards SF2 rehashes and enjoyment of SF3 designs. This isn't purely based on SF3. I dislike the between SF2 and SF3 idea. I dislike the introduction of new characters, half of which I think have bad designs, over including (so far) at least one SF3 character. Now all these SF4 guys need to mysteriously leave and these SF3 guys come out of nowhere, genius. Well, Kunai, Azrael and Reno have covered most of the major changes. Only thing I would add is that Abel's 360 grab is now reverse 180, and at least seemed to be weaker to me today. Will try to test more tomorrow.

The guy using Sagat (yudaya) had some really sick strategies where he would bait a high-recovery move, SA->dash cancel->c. short->ex uppercut. Crazy damage.

Dhalsim is fucking strong...jump-back fierce is really good and perhaps should be toned down a little.

I lost the most to Dhalsim and C. Vipers, the tweaks they did to her have worked in her favor.

El Fuerte is a fun character. Yes, jokey, but not in a dumb way, in a fun way. Rufus on the other hand...I don't like the design, straightaway. But his gameplay is intriguing. You basically have to keep rushing with him to get anywhere, and he has some good options after his moves.

I'm gonna agree with people bemoaning the preponderance of SF2 characters. Particularly the 'four kings' just didn't have to be in IMO. This is probably Capcom trying to revive their IP, but nostalgia has a limit. Whatever the roster now I hope that this is the very last of the SF2 characters.

Well they all automatically have new moves because of the new system. Then Guile and Honda got overheads, Dhalsim has different jumping normals, Chun-Li is all over the place concerning her other SF appearances, and who knows what else they'll do.

Man, can't wait for those videos... if there'll be any, that is. Won't any magazine/site cover this?

Some arcades in Japan by default don't really allow cameras. Mikado is one of them--they themselves only record tournament matches via direct feed. When it comes to beta testing--they usually frown upon it, although there's plenty of Sengoku Basara matches up. I'm thinking that they really don't want footage up of SF4 really except for official magazine publications or vids made specficially for websites.

I don't really think any legal vids will pop up. We may get lucky but I highly doubt it.

And to tell you the truth, he doesn't sound anymore freakish than Zangief, so what the hell? People dissing him now must come from a line of otaku fanboys who refuse to pick ugly characters because they're not as cool as Iori or something.

Gotta wait till I see him. I might develop a liking for him since I like Chang in CVS2 anyway.

The Vega and Bison info sounds cool. I hope they'll speed up Sagat's Tigers, but it's nice to hear that he's good with everything else. No time to read up on the rest. Got too much to do. Keep it comin' guys. :D

Characters - Changes and Improvements

-- YES, the "Four Kings" (Shitennou) are in it and playable.

-- Did not see too much of Balrog. Didn't seem too different. His ultra is like a beefed-up version of his punch-rush super, but with the uppercuts. It seems to be able to tag people in the air and juggle them for damage.

-- Vega is reminiscent of ST. Once he gets in close, life becomes very, very bad. The claw magically switches sides as Vega does. J.FP has insane range and good priority. His ultra is a souped-up version of the wall lunge move - I saw it hit and I saw it miss plenty.

-- Sagat - C.FP is no longer the Evil Bringer of Retribution it used to be. Now, it's just a normal move. Seriously lacks pokes. However, Tiger Uppercut = too good. Regular version is one or two hits, and EX is Alpha-style multi-hit. Tiger fireballs, while gorgeous, seem to be a bit slower than before (no O.Sagat fireball traps). Tiger knee is fast, covers good ground, and doesn't seem to have any recovery. His ultra is an incredible version of the Tiger Genocide - after launching the opponent with the Tiger Uppercut, he lets them fall into a HUGE version of the Tiger Uppercut. Players today seemed to be hitting his ultra a lot.

After playing him a few times, I thought he was kinda dependant on being defensive. However, we talked to one of the best Japanese players there, who said that Sagat was strong. He then racked up a few wins with impressive usage of SA. Quite a few people were using Sagat today.

I like that they're using more of an SNK style on some of the new characters. I never used the big guys that much, except Chang in Capcom vs SNK 2, he was cool, coupled with baby Freddy Krueger freako. Gotta see him, Bison, Vega 'n El Fuerte in action.

Ultima: No, the dude who was the commentator for CvS2 is not the same commentator for IV. Like I said before, the commentary was great last loketest. Sounds like the same guy in this loketest, but there was no special voice effects (sounded like a normal dude talking) and I swear I heard quite a bit of commentator stuff that was kinda annoying. I'll write down some of the commentator stuff when I go to the loke.

I'll also try to play more Rufus today. Reno has got El Fuerte covered. :wink:

I'm gonna agree with people bemoaning the preponderance of SF2 characters. Particularly the 'four kings' just didn't have to be in IMO. This is probably Capcom trying to revive their IP, but nostalgia has a limit. Whatever the roster now I hope that this is the very last of the SF2 characters.

Piano isn't really negative edge, is it? I thought it just increases your chances by using both button presses and negative edge, so by pianoing you have 6 chances to get the move off.

Negative edge is simply registering a move by releasing the button instead of pressing it.

So, if you do.

close fierce > qcf > release button

You are negative edging the fireball.

Can anyone confirm how good Dhalsim's Normals are priority wise? Does anyone see top tier Sim players using ground normals to anti air and poke? Iv only heard that his jump back close fierce is like A3, which is dope. I know his teleport is faster, but is it as fast as Bisons with recovery? Please someone confirm

Afrocole, none of us SRK guys are really good with Dhalsim, but there is one guy named Teruchika who is tearing up people with him. Yes, he is very good with priorites and nullifies a lot of characters in this game due to his range. Also, his teleports are extremely fast and you can attack immediately when you warp. Compare this to dictator Bison, who will warp instantaneously (like Dhalsim), but dictator will have his arms folded and cannot do any moves for 1/3 to 1/2 a second.

One thing Teruchika kept doing to people (including me) would be to warp behind you and immediately do... what appears to be a jumping fierce attack that only has him off the air for a split second. It basically acts as an overhead. It looks like he's slightly jumping off the air before teleporting, reappearing behind you and hitting you from above. It's hard to block high on reaction. He then finishes with crouching jab or short (?) to fireball for knockdown. It was VERY hard to deal with unless you were expecting it, and even then, he attacks so fast that you can't do much.

Adverse said he saw the same player do something that seemed unblockable, where he would throw a fireball after he knocked you down, then immediately cancel the fireball animation into a SA... charge it, and as the fireball hits the person from behind while getting up, he will release his SA (I think he said it was a lvl 2 SA). Hopefully, he can clarify because I didn't personally see this in action.

I'll try to study more Dhalsim players if they are at the loke today... but Teruchika is far and away the best Dhalsim player for IV in Osaka, and he is easily one of the best IV players, period.

Sounds to me like he is tigerkneeing the teleport in the air, just like cvs2, you can do it in air low to the ground allowing you to b+fp as soon as you come out of it. If thats just his regular teleport, that is fucking dope. Im pretty sure he is tigerkneeing it hough.

I wasn't referring to SFIV announcer as being the exact same guy as CvS2, per se. I was more thinking along the lines of an announcer that just WON'T SHUT UP. I know we've gotten used to it now, but that was a complaint (well, one of several really :)) with CvS2 back in the day: "The announcer is like SFA3, except he talks even more shit!".

Yeah if u can watch him and just see how he deals with players jumping at him. I want to know if he is using like back+ Foward or Standing Jab as anti air or if he has to resort to going to the air in order to anti-air people that jump.

Also, have you seen him slide when people jump and it actually trip them?

These are just classic ways dhalsim would use to anti-air people. It pretty much is like the basis of his combat style, the ability to counter in all situations.

Yeah, from the GDC version i played, u were able to tiger knee his Air teleport, appear behind them hit B+Fierce, low jab into Super. You could SA cancel jab fireball after a knock down and perform this as well. Not sure if that is unblockable or not, but it seems like a pretty intense lock down for sim.

Thanks for the quick report Kunai. Cant wait to play this version. GDC version was already fun enough and now it seems like they are hella cleaning the game up.

I just thought of a couple of questions. People have already mentioned that damage taken during a SA becomes recoverable life, or grey damage, so:

- Can you die from that type of damage?
- Do moves with super armor also take grey damage?

Has anyone played all the way through the P1 Cab yet?
Is there a Boss of any sort yet? I'm really hoping for a super cheap non playable boss. Do you play through the Boxer to Dictator? Or is all random?

-- As was said, a few faces and details have been cleaned up. Ryu/Ken/Chun look A LOT better, and more like the familiar faces we've come to know. A few more details have been added, like a white smoke/energy trail following a shoryuken (my explanation sucks, but it looks good, honestly).

-- The Revenge/Ultra meter has dropped to the bottom of the screen, besides the super meter. The super meter is now partitioned to see how many EX moves you have (a full bar is 4 EX moves). At the top where the Revenge meter used to be now there's the character portrait. I think this is a pretty good idea, seeing as how the character's name disappears if someone's using a network card.


You don't know how happy I was to read that.
