I don't think I'm going to be super hype for this game until I finally get a chance to play it. Like I think the game is looking good so far but thinking about it too much will just get me...thinking too much about it.

I am looking forward to it. But one thing is bothering me i hope its not a game where you have top tier characters and "the rest". Like wich they did with third strike. Really every character should be able to win meaning balanced. And actualy you should not play 3 times better with a low tier character in order to win. Totaly unfair, tournements what do you see? FOR THE MOST part top tier characters, there are a view exeptions. Twelve vs ken or chun li? Dont let me laugh
Hugo vs dudley yun yang etc.....?Those where just examples. Those characters have right from the start an disadvantage from most opponents. Let Capcom learn from Guilty gear, where you can actualy win with alomst every character, its much more balanced IMO. Its like Capcom telling you if you want to win take the top tier (best characters) the rest is just for the show and filling up the character roster. I know some characters do take some time to master and others dont i totaly except that. But dont give us characters with lame priority moves and supers. People should not be punished for choosing a character wich they find cool, even if it means a so called low tier character. time will tell.......

yes skillz it is. Instead of top tier characters. Fact is if you watch tournements then who do you see the most? Il tell you Ken, Chun-Li, Yun, those are the most choosen characters in tournements. Then you have Urien, Dudley.
Well thats about it, and this is not a joke i watched a lot of tournements, and the characters i just named are THE CHARACTERS. I wonder why....? Sure you have other characters but in general they dont make it to the finals. Even if these people have enough Skill. If people play casuals they play much more with different characters. But when it comes to tournements, no one wants to take the "risk" of playing characters that hardly any one plays. (exceptions yamazaki 12, ysb hugo, hayou hugo).
So Capcom make this game one that is balanced.

Tier rankings are normally based on matchups.
Characters that have advantageous matchups against most of the cast will be put in the top tier. And characters that have disadvantageous matchups against the rest of the cast will be at the bottom tier.
It's not a complex concept. When we say a character is "top tier" is not just because of one or two moves that make them universally strong, it's because they are more likely to win in most of their matchups.
And when a character has a lot of bad matchups then they're obviously going to be ranked low.
It's desirable to have a lot of characters in the same tier ranking, close to upper and mid. Or to have very even tiers. And this is because people want character variety.
It's not exactly easy to avoid making to cast homogenized and balance them at the same time though. The more different they are, the more likely they are to become overly weak or overly strong. It is a rather complicated problem, especially because no one likes it when their character gets nerfed or changed dramatically.

I want SF4 to have a small tier gap as well, but Capcom should not learn from Guilty Gear. That way of balancing would be atrocious if applied to SF.

yeah tiers are all about spread of character vs character win rates. a well balanced game has a narrow spread.
and i don't really get what people mean when they say "the Guilty Gear way" of balancing things is different from how every other game is balanced. the whole "give every character his own gimmick and some universal moves" thing is prevalent in every game - the gimmicks are just more pronounced (i.e. they _really_ look like gimmicks) in GG.
i think his point was that the power of the universal systems needs to be matched to the power of the character-specific tools. if you apply GG's systems to a game like SF which has far, far weaker character-specific tools then the game would become all about the systems.
V-Dan in A3 is a good example of what can happens when you do this. an intentionally terrible character based on his regular moves actually became pretty damn good SOLELY thanks to having pushblocking. imagine if they'd given that shit to every character :wasted:

I merely meant that I didn't want to see a SF that had a ton of universal subsystems shoved up its ass. "The Guilty Gear way" I mean is that it has about a few thousand mechanics in place just in case a character or playstyle would be broke without them. I didn't have anything about gimmicks in mind when i posted that.
GG's subsystems are pretty soundly devised for the kind of game it is, imo, but yeah a game like SF doesn't need them, or any universal systems at all beyond the SF2 ones really.

so sorry, i didn't mean to imply that the argument was moot (or that gimmicks were a bad thing) i really had no idea what the GG way was, so thanks for explaining. Alpha 3 was the first game that came to mind on how big a part the universal system is in Capcom games (i.e. everyone getting good in V-ism).

Yeah your right in a sence but.......Lets take 12 for example if 12 has a bad match up against 1 or 3 characters i could live with that but....he has a bad match up against nearly every one! or your playing a noob.... Same applys to Hugo, Sean, let alone other characters. Ofcourse sf4 should not be like GG, but make it balanced like GG in a capcom way.....You stated that some characters are good vs a lot of characters (matchups) like, Ken or Chun-li, Yun in 3s. So in other words there is defenitly a Top tier characters list, because Ken can win from Chun, yun, and all the rest, same applys to Chun, yun and some others. Well how long has it been since capcom making this game. They should listen to fans, and the pro's and cons (balance issues). To make this game one that is balanced. When this happens....how cool should it be when you see a lot of different styles (characters)
because people dont have to worry about hmmm better take a top tier character to make a stance? If that was the case for 3s you would see 12 vs chun, hugo vs dudley, sean vs ken, even in tournements, but i think this is a dream......time will tell....

I've bought a next gen console just to play this game. So I would say I'm pretty amped.
'm stoked it's getting a relatively warm response from players and the press. I was gutted when Capcom Fighting Allstars got canned. But it did get alot of negative feedback.
I hope that above all it ends up being a fun game.
