He goes by the name of Rufus.

So far I've been pretty passive about all the SF4 updates. But I gotta say I'm really not a fan of the Rufus design. I think maybe they're going for too much diversity with the new characters.

The series has always had a fantasy type setting. Blanka and Dhalsim were never realistic. SF3 introduced more freaky guys.

My problem with Rufus isn't the unrealistic-ness, I love the idea of a cool blubbery fat dude doing crazy moves. It just seems his look needs work. It's kind of uncreative and not as polished as a lot of the rest of the roster. His move-set could use some help too. Some of his stuff is aight, his air hand slaps and his super are at least decent. He just needs some work done all around to fit in better.

Rufus looks nice. He seems to fit well with the style of the game and I think he is pretty unique. Bob is fatter than he is, and Rufus has a different look. I think he is a welcomed addition. New, unique characters means the creators still have a creative touch when it comes to character design. I still can't wait to see official art for Rufus.

Part of me wants to be open minded and optimistic, but my initial reaction was a kind of dumbfounded disbelief. On first glance, I honestly thought Rufus was a joke character. Some kind of April fools.

Giving a character uniqueness and a strong identity is something that every SF game has always done well, but this one is a huge step way out into the unknown and I suspect, like some of the (still more conservative) 3S cast, this newest arrival will alienate people. It simply doesn't gel with the rest of the franchise. It looks like a clown and the movement and responsiveness of the character defy credibility.

The designs reminds me somewhat of the fat guy from Rage of the Dragoons, I haven't played that in awhile so I could be stretching.

Anyhow I don't think it's the design itself that's bad, it's just I don't personally think it fits cohesively with what we already have. Certainly a fun idea, but I don't know it's almost as if they have more than one creative force creating characters. I guess that's what you get when you juggle old characters with completely new ones, but that's the only concern I have.

I honestly think you're onto something, as long as it obviously deviates from the original design it should be fine. Joker is an interesting character so if they were inspired by him it would be a step in a much better direction in terms of overall design.

What I don't get is a lot of people were weary of adding new characters and complained about 3s character design when the 4 characters are equally if not more strange than the 3 characters. Ono also said that this would take place right after ST., so what's up with all the crazy characters? They are very close to EX characters IMO. I'm personally not complaining I'm loving how it's coming along so far. I think if a 3s character was to be added I would go with Necro, ibuki, or yang. Probably because this is a NEW game in the SF series, and currently there's 12 return characters, and only 4 new characters.

I think they realize that they need to pull in some new blood to keep the franchise fresh. So, they have to maintain a good ratio of new and old. At the same time not forgetting about the females this time around.

Give Rufus time to be fleshed out. Judge him again, after they put official info and vids out, that they want you to see on him.

Sagat has far been over becoming champion for a while. All he really wanted was another fair fight with Ryu. He got a win over him in SFA3, but he was being possesed by Bison's psycho power, so his win over Psycho Ryu doesn't count. Very idiotic, yes, but Sagat has never once been thinking about becoming champion again. Just preparing for his next fight with Ryu. The championship bullshit is especially irrelevant since it's just characters doing their own agendas again

On Rufus- I don't see the big deal about him personally. He may not be easy on the eyes, but he looks like he would be rather fun to play. They should just tweak his design or outfit a bit more.
