so my account got hacked and they started withdrawing money from my bank account. i log in, unlink my bank account, change my password, etc. so today, i got an email saying the email and password got changed, making it unable to log into my account at all. i call customer support, and this is what they have to say

Dear Michael Miranda,

Hello my name is Nul-Amar, I am sorry to hear about the situation
regarding your account, and understand your frustration and concern over
this issue. I will be happy to assist you with your questions.

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

When you sent your payment through PayPal, you received an email
receipt. If you still have access to that receipt, just open the email
and click the "Sign Up Now" link to sign up for a PayPal account. If you
no longer have the email receipt, visit https://www.paypal.com/signup.
Or contact us and we'll resend the receipt.

Once you've opened your account, you can find a record of your previous
transactions by going to your Account Overview and clicking the
"History" subtab.

Note: In order to view your transactions, you must register the credit
card number used to make the purchase.

We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this matter, and
wish you continued success on PayPal.

ok first of all, i didn't send payment anywhere so why would i have a receipt. they withdrew directly from my bank account and not a credit card. and i'm trying to get into my account, not make a new one. so i'm supposed to let this hacker dwell in my account now (even though there's no bank account linked to it, all my personal information is on there)?

fuck pay pal!!!

Call your bank for now. Cut all ties with your paypal account from the source. When they can't withdraw any more money THEN you can deal with Paypal.

I have a similar situation. 3 guys (Samer Kattouf, Charles Lind, and Hamid Chamanchi. Judging by the names, I'm gonna guess they're a group of hacker kids in the UK, and made all the charges from the same pc) made charges to my credit card on the 17th of this month, and I got a "Payment Confirmed" email on the 19th, so I contested the charges with Mastercard, closed that credit card's account, and got a new card with a different number, and have no intention of informing PayPal of said new number (I'm still leaving my account open for the time being...I wonder if that could bite me in the ass...)...I was wondering: Do I HAVE to use paypal to order from Amazon.com and ebay.com? (I HATE having to rely on the uncertainty of money orders)

Call your bank and file a dispute on the charges, you can also should be able to put stop payments on any electronic debits.

I never trusted paypal. having online ready access to your bank account is asking for it to get broken into. i wish the best of luck to ya reload

What I would do is go to your bank, tell them your identity has been stolen and that you would like to close ALL activity with your current account. They will then be able to investigate the unorthorised charges as obviously it's against the law to fraudulently make those withdrawls. Don't bother with Paypal, their protection offers you nothing at this stage compared to your bank...

Question to OP: have you ever responded to email that looks authentically from PayPal asking you to re fill in your details?

If so then thats probably where your problem lies. PayPal have always said that they will never ever ask customers to update / re fill their details via email.

Very good question, considering this is something they always warn against.

Amazon? Oh hell no, credit card away son. Amazon doesn't even use Paypal.
Ebay? It's not up to Ebay to determine how sellers charge buyers but because of Paypal's popularity it's really the only option.

I think what Ebay should do but won't is allow Google Checkout to be accepted on the site. Google Checkout (GCO) just stores your credit card number and acts as a middle man between your card and the site you are buying from. It's easy and fast to use and many popular E-tailers are using it nowadays. Just not Ebay. Kinda surprised that Google hasn't started a bidding site so that GCO can have a home.

Damn bro, that sucks. PayPal has fucked me over, too...but I still use it since it is actually easy.

By the way, when I first read the thread, it said your name
"Michael Miranda" and I was like "wtf, I know someone with that name!"...then I realized you're from Vallejo and I forgot I knew you in real life...lol, stupid me.

Anyways, hope you get your shit back in tact yo.

welcome to my world. When I was selling WOW cards I kept getting scammed by chinese gold farmers who hacked other people's paypal accounts and it was very difficult to actually detect until it was too late. Paypal did nothing to help me b/c it wasnt a physically shipped item so they just put my acct in the negative. 2nd account got screwed over as well when I tried to sell my account and a movie, now on my 3rd, and can't verify bank because I won't make a 3rd bank account just for this crap.

Just cut off my bank account to my paypal account. I hardly use it anyways. I only use it to pay for premium or in rare cases I buy something from E-Bay. Its a good thing I saw this topic.

Don't use PayPal...

Regarding Google Checkout, eBay won't allow that because well, eBay owns Paypal now. So using Google Check Out would literally cause them to lose money. eBay is a monopoly and I've always dreamed that Google Checkout could outdo them eventually. Who knows.

Yahoo Auctions was stellar for like a year maybe...then it wasn't good anymore.

The best thing to do about this situation is just not use paypal unless ABSOLUTELY needed. Also, paypal sucks at things like this...I had an account with like 500 dollars in it stored with paypal money. And there was no way that I could do their demands, and eventually they would keep that money inside paypal and use it for themselves because they give me like 6 months to do something about it.

I hope you get your money back, paypal needs to go, and google needs to become amazing-er.

Word, only time I was ever involved with PayPal was to sell MMO shit, and even then, I paid my friends a percentage to handle the item/money transactions.

Same thing happened to me. (http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?p=4989248#post4989248)

I've had to make another checking account to pay bills until my funds are given back. Apparently, whether you call USBank or not, once the request has been put through, they can't stop it. Basically, paypal told me to call my bank, who in turn told me "ain't shit we can do....cash out nigga!".

After a lot of no bullshit phone calls with the higher ups, I am finally seeing my account put back to normal. It's still in the negatives, but it should be worked out by the end of this week. That was my evo and PS3 money :shake::sad::sad:

Since this has happened, I have de-linked the bank account. The only reason I had it on there to begin with was so I could transfer money from paypal. But now that I have the debit card, it has no use.

In short = Fuck paypal and US bank.

It's not that you shouldn't, it's just that we are dealing with a monopoly that only Google seems to be capable of confronting head-on. GCO is used on many many different sites and growing. Some use both GCO and Paypal. However, Paypal is the only way to fulfill transactions on Ebay and Ebay is the most widely used auction site. So we are caught between a rock and a hard place until an auction site emerges that can compete with Ebay.

I read the link, but do you know how exactly this person could've gotten your info? Like, did you supply info to a bogus Paypal email or something?

Naw.

I tend to use the same password for everything. And my email on the paypal was one I used frequently to sign up for forums/other sites.

I'm guessing that's how it happened.

I just recently started using Paypal, ans since i am a paranoid MF, I opened up a second checking account with a very minimal amount of bread and tied that one up to Paypal. I did not want to tie up the family account just to avoid that kind of crap. Once I get XX amount of $$ in the Paypal account, then Ill put the moeny somewhere else, just leaving like $1 or something to avoid bank fees. The way I see it, Id rather get locked out of my $150 papyal bank account than the $4K+ family account.

I just managed to force my paranoia away to get myself a paypal account...

Gladly my account requires changing verification codes from a slip of paper I physically have.

Shiiii. I'm gonna get myself a maximum length password. Also, protip; use symbols. I personally use passwords like #7H3_R4GinG¤DeM0N. That's close to unbreakable.
