I'm working on my PhD in Legal Psychology (cognitive and social psych). Actually working on a paper as we speak. What field would you go into for grad school?

I'm doing my masters on time/safety effectiveness of K-9 searches as opposed to Officer searches of suspects.

Let me read your paper when your done. The dogs here in VA are trained with Dutch commands. And some of the prisons have the dogs teeth covered with metal.

hehe, I actually applied and got in to a couple of counseling programs but the funding they were offering blew hard. I'm getting a free PhD over here at FIU. What would you need help with? Research ideas? Tips for getting into grad school? I'm no pro but I'll help where I can.

Funding blew hard eh? Hmmm... I really want to be counselling people though, so I think i'm going to stick with it. I'm more worried about GETTING IN right now. What should I be doing? minus getting the grades? I even heard you can just know the supervisor and if you have mediocore grades he can let you in.

Also, how come you applied to diff. programs?

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE! That is rule #1 for getting into grad school. You need the GRE score and the grades but you also need research experience. Find a lab at your university and volunteer to help with research projects. This will help you two-fold because you can get some great letters of recommendation from the professors running the lab.
I applied to mostly counseling programs but I got my research experience in a legal psych lab so I applied to a couple of those programs to cast a wide net. Even though it wasn't my favorite area, I find it interesting so I figured I could do well in a legal psych program. Most of the counseling programs I got into offered funding for the first year only (out of a 5 year program) or offered a percentage of total tuition each year. The program I'm in now gives us a tuition waiver AND pays us in exchange for TAing for a professor.
Don't bank on getting in just by knowing a supervisor. We just had a guy who volunteered in our lab for a year and wasn't offered a spot in next fall's incoming class. He was pissed but knowing people isn't a free pass into grad school.

After my BS, I was hoping to go for a master's in Radiation Therapy. I've heard that for the most part people just do their masters work in free time it generally isn't that bad.
