I'm guessing it also depends on what you specified as your payment method when filing your return, be it a mailed check or a deposit into the same account as your refund.

When you filed, you have an option of either direct deposit or papercheck.

If you didn't select "Direct Deposit" when you filed your taxes, then it's too late to do anything about it now. If you received a paper check/are going to receive a paper check for your taxes, then you'll receive a paper check for the stimulus check.

Oh, I know it's for dependants/children 17 and under, just didn't know if there was a cap on how many dependants you can claim. Like, if a couple had 25 dependants (birth, adoption, etc). Would the government really fork over $8,700 for the couple+25 dependants?

I am actually in the same boat as you with that. But I decided to put the Federal refund on the card and the sate by check. So Im wondering like crazy When Im going to get mine. For the record I filed mines like early February.

I bet you its time like these, parents, guardians etc are happy that they got dependants! Thank you baby sister!:wgrin:

Question is, what are we going to DO with the rebates. Me Im spending like half and stashing the other half. Im thinking of getting that iTouch or save it till June and get that Wii for my Birthday.:woot:

I do not have ANY loans to pay off. Or have taken out any EVER! The only things I have to worry about are:

1)Rent
2)Cable Bill
3)house Phone Bill (REALLY cheap)
4)Cell Phone (pre-paid)

That and the essientials food, clothes and what not. Which can pretty much be taken care of with my salary. Other wise than that, Dammit,Im going Shopping! :woot:

Edit: When I filed they included the 600 or whatever in my tax return, so yeah, 600 of that was from the stimulus thing. The rest was because I bought a Hybrid in 2007. I'm not actually big on sports, as I assume your reference to a ball refers to, most likely, basketball. I believe that hard work is overshadowed by being able to play a sport in this country, and that we strive for unrealistic goals of attaining fame and fortune through either sports, music, or acting, and we lose focus of performing well in school and learning a trade or craft in favor of toss 'round the old pigskin.

That said, I believe this economic stimulus wouldn't be necessary if our money was spent more wisely and was spread out a bit more than it is. I believe civil workers and schoolteacher should make more money than they do and athletes/musicians/etc should make less.

I also feel that this stimulus is just some bullshit the current administration is throwing out so people focus on "WOAH FREE 600 BUCKS SWEET" and think less about the financial blunders they performed. It also could just be a ploy to get people to file taxes and claim dependants, a form of census, as people are much more motivated to do so when money is being presented to them.

But I babble too much. And I don't like sports.

People work very hard to be good at sports, not everyone is a born prodigy. Their dedication to sports get them through college and through to their future. It's not like anyone can be good at sports, music, whatever. These people still have to work for money, they just do it differently.

Where are you people finding these dates? Oh nm

AmbiguousCrosup
05-05-2008, 12:57 PM
Dates and how it works:

Here’s how the checks will roll out:

If you file your return on time and request that your federal income tax refund is directly deposited, the stimulus payments will directly go into your bank account by May 2 if the last two digits of your Social Security number are 00-20.

If the last two digits are 21-75, the date to remember is May 9.

If the last two digits are 76-99, you’d get that money by May 16.

But if you do not use direct deposit to get your federal income tax refund – or you are paying taxes owed when you file that 2007 return – you’re going to get your tax rebate check later. The rollout times are more complicated, too.

If your last two digits of your Social Security number are 00-09, you could expect that rebate check to be mailed by May 16.

It’s by May 23 if the last two digits are 10-18.

It’s May 30 if the digits are 19-25.

It’s June 6 if the digits are 26-38.

It’s June 13 if the digits are 39-51.

It’s June 20 if the digits are 52-63.

It’s June 27 if the digits are 64-75.

It’s July 4 if the digits are 76-87.

It’s by July 11 if the digits are 88 -99 and the person did not use direct deposit of a refund this year – or if you wrote a check to cover money owed for the 2007 tax year.

I got my rebate on the 2nd, and frankly it was 1/2 what I was expecting. Married couples where 1 of them is a non-working student or stay at home parent is going to be shafted and only get credit for the income of the working individual. $600.00 is better than nothing, but I'm pretty annoyed that we were led to believe that married couples would be getting $1200 bucks.

the irs webpage has a "where's my stimulus check" page where you put in your ss, how you filled and how many exemptions you had and it will tell you when your check is going out, or being depositted.

remember to put at least 1 in exemptions, otherwise it will error out.

Checked has cleared, nothing feels better than looking at your checking account and seeing under deposits. US Treasury 600$ USD 5/6/08.

Damn and to think i was all set to see it on friday, so happy i got this early. I get paid friday too, MO MOney MO MOney!!!

But Im somewhat focused here. paying off the last credit card bill i owe. Also taking care of the student loan.

MGS4 is already paid for guess its time for a few clothes then.

I always save my money, but i actually feel like spending a lil paper. Might as well set up a new savings account. titled the gas account: Put savings away for gas in the yr 2010 when it'll prolly be 5 bucks for regular..lol.

Well, I certainly don't need to say it but I will anyway: that really sucks.

well the one annoying thing is

i have a couple businesses and some lose money and some make money, just how it is

the problem is, as far as gov't taxes, i have to treat each business as independent. i pay taxes on the ones that make money and don't have to pay taxes on the ones that lose money.

but for this new rebate they want you to add up every business and the rebate is going off combined sales not combined profit

so if one business generates over 100k (the sales threshold), but you have 2 other losing a combined 100k, it doesn't matter. you're still considered too much sales and are screwed

i mean luckily i'm set up so the rebate would be nice but if i don't get it thats fine. some people i know though are struggling and going to probably lose some of their businesses as a result, but thats life i guess.

i should get some bonus though because i only hire legal american citizens not illegals like every other business owner, but nothing

Rebates and Refund Transfers Using Santa Barbara Bank & Trust
Updated: 5/06/2008
Article ID: *****
IMPORTANT -- Using "Refund Transfer" with Santa Barbara Bank & Trust could affect when you get your rebate
Even if you have received or will receive your tax refund by direct deposit to your bank account using Santa Barbara Bank & Trust, the IRS will not do the same for your tax rebate. It will mail your rebate instead.
This applies only if you used the "refund transfer" service when filing. The service lets you pay for your tax preparation and/or e-filing from your refund proceeds, for an additional fee, rather than use a credit card.

Why does a refund transfer affect the date I receive my rebate?

When TurboTax customers chose this payment method, they authorized the bank to set up temporary accounts to be used only to receive their 2007 refunds from the IRS. The IRS sends the refunds to the temporary accounts and the bank transmits them directly to customers.
Because the IRS does not, in fact, receive taxpayers bank-account numbers under this method, it has stated that it cannot match taxpayers with their current bank accounts.
That's why the IRS decided that taxpayers who entered into financial transactions with third parties, such as SBB&T, would get rebates by mail. This also applies to taxpayers who use "refund anticipation loans" or RALs (loans made to tax filers against their expected refunds). TurboTax does not offer RALs.

Why did it take awhile for TurboTax to tell customers about the impact of refund transfers on the rebate payment schedule?

The law creating the tax rebates, the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, was signed by President Bush on Feb. 13. As soon as details of the act emerged and could be verified, TurboTax updated customer articles about the rebates, including information on refund transfers.
It was not unti mid-March that the IRS announced the rebate payment schedule. The schedule revealed that rebates would be mailed in order of the last two digits of taxpayers' Social Security numbers AND that direct deposit recipients would get theirs first.

When and how you'll get your rebate
Check this IRS Web site: Stimulus Payment Schedule

To learn the status of your rebate, visit this IRS site: Where's My Stimulus Payment?
Use this online tool to learn when you will receive your rebate and how much it will be. However, the IRS says that information about your payment won't be available until about a week before your rebate is scheduled to be issued. Refer to the schedule above.

"so it looks as if i've been placed at the back of the line for recieving my stimulus check, even being i direct deposited...please see if this effects you

We just found out today we wont get ours until june or later. Seems we overlooked some of the stipulations. We had our refunds direct deposit but we didnt pay the filing fee with a credit card, we just had it deducted from our return. In that senario you get a paper check mailed. So we gotta wait. =( We were lookin' forward to those checks. They were gonna be used towards buying myself a new car. My car was stolen like 3 weeks ago

I used Turbo Tax and I sent mine through the mail (didn't want to pay the 30 something bucks to e-file for both state and fed). I also owed money, so I wrote them a check rather than have them take it straight from my account (they didn't even ask me to set it up like that), so it looks like I'll be getting the check in the mail, which hasn't come yet...

My dad also used Turbo Tax and he filed electronically but paid that fee of 30 something bucks though, but he got his tax refund rather quick and he got the Bush rebate already too. Arg, looks like I won't be seeing mine for a while...

Same. But there's some regulations on who can get that money. I had to amend my dependency status to be eligible for a return. Looks like I'm getting it in 08.

I used Turbo Tax and filed online; I should've gotten mine almost two weeks ago. I had no tax to pay, would that cause a delay?

Why don't you go to the IRS and find out for yourself the status of your thing? You might not even any money back since you didn't pay any taxes

Here's the thing; I did check that. I get 300, as I had no tax liabilities. So I get less, but I do get some.

Ninja edit: I just checked the IRS website again (it wasn't able to tell me before): I get the 300 dollar rebate, but it's mailed to my old address on May 23rd. Good thing my sister is still there!

Keep in mind that if you paid for your tax preparation/fees/etc with a tax return deduction, you receive a paper check. If you paid upfront, with no deduction taken from your tax return, then you should have gotten it direct deposited (assuming you had your tax return direct deposited).

now that I think about it they did take a cut out of my refund so i didnt have to pay up front.
