Hi everyone,
I was talking with my friend about the documentary "King of Kong," and he said "I wish there was a documentary about Street Fighter games." I told him that there's Bang the Machine, but he had never seen it or even heard about it.
I've already seen it when it was shown at that one Evo along with Street Fighter Alpha: Generations. But I'd like to show it to my friend.
Anyone know where its available?
I know it's an old movie, but please don't post any spoilers in here.
Thanks,
its never been released to dvd i believe.

So instead of making some (not much at all, but some) money and making sure everybody who wants to see it can see it, they prevent piracy...but not releasing it at all?
Good lord.
Especially NOW of all times, with the success of King of Kong and whatnot. That has to be the dumbest move ever.

IIRC, before Bang the Machine went into mass production, the creators lost all of their data due to a fire.
Now I pass the legend onto you, oh asker of the forbidden question.

it's a documentary of sorts from either 99 or 2000, I forget. It features top players from the US at one of the B tournaments playing for spots to rep the US in Japan.. and the stuff that happens in Japan an some stuff even before the B tournament. I saw it years ago and I enjoyed it, I wish I could make it to EVO and watch it again.

It could be its own disc when the EVO disks are sold, who knows. But not releasing it in some fashion commercially (or free) over the net is ridiculous.

Hey Wizard. Whats the official reason for this having not been released?
Are people holding out to make a proper release one day or is it just being kept a holy grail of sorts just for the hell of it? i don't understand the reason thats not been made clear to the community after all these years.

they are still trying to have a big company pick it up like MTV or capcom.
i doubt they would make any money just by releasing it by themselves.

^^^Do you think the further time goes by, there is less of a chance of this happening? Gonna be 10 years soon and some of those cats are already retired.
Possibly with interest that could come with SF4?

I don't understand what happened to it, I mean, if their offices hadn't been destroyed, what would have become of the film? There's obviously still an existing copy of the film, so why was it abandoned? Surely they still created what they wanted to create, right?

Yes, the office was in the World Trade Center.

i missed this, thanks.
seems reasonable enough, but i can't imagine many people would be interested in pre 2000 sf. if sf4 reignites casual gamers passion like smash brothers has, i see more chance of a new documentary being created with MLG and all that stuff being involved. noone but us can relate to the old stuff surely? Unless its packaged within a new documentary which covers sf tournament history.
I wonder how long they will keep holding on to the hope of someone picking it up when it surely grows smaller every year?

Dates and times shouldn't matter, like retro games are long gone (well kindda) and people still found an intrest in "King of Kong". I figure it would be the same with the "Bang the Machine". With "Bang the Machine", it's not just about the game itself but about the community so it really wouldn't matter what games are being played now compaired to "pre 2000" ya know.
