Did you know:

For this year's April Fool's Day joke, Adult Swim aired some rough cuts of a lot of its popular shows, including Venture Bros. The VB creators did not know this was going to happen. What was shown was a 15 minute, straight-from-korea rough cut of the yet-to-be-aired 2nd episode of the new season. They were mad at first, but are okay with it now (according to one of the creator's, Jackson Publick, livejournal).

I missed it.

And any speculation to the "cliffhanger" of last season's finale? Dr. Girlfriend's revelation will be...?

Brock will finally find the scars he told Phantom Limb to check for.

The first week is a "Guild of Calamitous Intent" Shirt. $22 each, includes shipping. Limited to this week only, they'll stop selling them after this week.

These shirts are kind of expensive, but if you subscribe to them (http://www.astrobasego.com/subscribe.html) (for $250), you get 14 shirts, one of which is a bonus shirt that has Brock on it. Tempting. That is really expensive though, so I probably won't.

If you divide it up, it'll be about $18 a shirt.

I have the money to drop on a subscription...I just might do it.

Thoughts on Venture Bros 3-1:
-----------------------------------------

- Jackson Publick, you FUCKING ASSHOLE!!! You tease us at the end of Season 2 with Dr. Girlfriend dropping a huge bombshell, make use wait 1.5 years, then DON'T EVEN TELL US WHAT SHE FUCKING SAID. Fuck you, you fucking asshole... (And I mean this in the kidding way. I'm not really mad, more amused than anything...)

- So, the entire episode, we see Brock, Dr. Venture and Myra, but none of them speak and the boys don't even show up... shrewd. (Then again, the boys weren't back in full-force until episode 2-2 either...)

- Lol @ the Murderous Moppets whooping the shit out of the entire Monarch phalanx of henchmen.

- Anyone know what song that adult swi--uh, I mean The Guild couldn't get the rights to?

- While I certainly enjoy the antics of The Monarch, Phantom Limb, Dr. Girlfriend (or is she Dr. Wife now?), et al., to quote The Monarch "WHERE IS HE? WHERE IS VENUTRE?"

- I certainly wouldn't want to be on Phantom Limb's sh**list...

I think the "we couldn't afford to license the song" bit in this episode was a joke referring to the money spent on licensing that other song on the Season 2 premiere. Supposedly a lot of money was spent licensing that one song.

One thing I didn't like was that there was no scene depicting the Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend getting their old rebuilt HQ. It was rebuilt and they suddenly seemingly got control of it again.

I loved the whole villains working together to help the Monarch get back on his feet bit.

Did the Moppets do anything to 24 or 21 for getting Brock's help?

I love the new Monarch vehicle.

Now we know who killed Venture Sr.!!!!!!!!!!!!

So we got the thirteen bosses and then the super boss right?

I love these flashback episodes. The college one was one of my favorites. I'm not that keen in tying the Monarch into Phantom Limb's army but it was not bad. I always thought the Monarch came up on his own as a villain. But its a good explanation for his motivation in becoming a villain.

Overall I loved the episode. The fact that it ties so many bits of history gives me hope that this season will have a more cohesive storyline. I want to learn more about the backstory and various groups in the VB universe.

VB also relies on a lot of in-jokes. The show is basically a parody of retro-style adventure movies/cartoons. Actually its a parody of a lot of different pop culture elements. That's not to say that the show is one big joke. The characters are interesting and the dialogue is witty. But it's not for everyone.

Season 3 started off pretty shitty. Season 2's opening episode was WAY better.

N-StradAT9
06-04-2008, 12:43 PM
i enjoyed the episode, but it really wasn't up to par with season 2's opener. Part of that might have to do with the episode not actually being episode 27 of the series (which is where season 3 actually starts). The episode was actually #32. i imagine they showed that first out of which episodes completed post-production since it appears to pick up where 26 left off. Although honestly the episode provided almost 0 new information about the characters.

Oh and i saw someone mention about Dr Venture Sr being killed by the guild....
nobody in the episode explicitly said that, the henchman just said he was dead, he didn't say anyone in the guild killed him... so i wouldn't take that as the truth just yet. Besides, his father's death is going to have to be a pivotal story at some point, or at least i'm willing to bet it will.

Next weeks episode should completely make up for the not bad, but not great opener.

Dr. Henry Killinger is gonna be all funny.

And N-Strad, that was obviously the season opener. Even if the production numbers say different, why would they air something that didn't have to do with the huge cliffhanger.

It's kinda funny how they just left the cliffhanger behind for an origin story.

Directly from Publick's blog:

Anyway, the aforementioned production problems and a couple of untimely flus have put us slightly behind in post-production. We've fully completed three episodes to date, we're currently editing picture on the fourth (its next stop is the sound engineer), and we'll be starting the fifth this weekend. To give you an idea of how screwy the production order is this season, the first episode we turned in (#27) is going to air third or fourth, depending on how quickly we can rush #37--written eleventh and produced tenth, which we hope to air third but will probably air fourth--through post-production. The second episode we turned in (#29) was written third and produced second, but is going to air eleventh. The third (#28) was written second, produced third, and will air second. And #32, which was written and produced sixth--but will be edited fifth--is actually the premier episode of the season. I dare you to try to keep that kind of continuity conundrum straight in your head...

I thought it had more eps than that. Seemed like it as AS shows it so much I guess. I just don't like the art style. I don't really like the 2 kids. That manly speaking woman is funny kinda but I just can't get into it. The storyline just isn't there for me. I prefer shows with a in depth storyline and this one just doesn't have it for me. I do like comedy just couldn't get into this. I did give it a chance. I did catch an episode where Brock finds out his mentor and the guy that trained him wanted to be a woman or something like that. Just couldn't get into it. Plus that bee looking villan. Or butterfly or whatever he is. Just not my thing.

Yeah you must have never seen Johnny Quest when you were a kid, cause most of that shit is all parodies and references to those old cartoons.

Lucretz
06-05-2008, 10:05 PM
oh Lucretz stik that negative up your ass. How many more people are gonna call me whitey and faggot today? That's right I'm a whitey faggot. (not really but who cares what people in a box say) I'm actually a Greek Goddess! Or perhaps a poot in a jug. Either way you can't touch me. Ha!

.. but yeah, go back and read your post at the end of the second page if you're wondering why you got negged so hard. You come across as really elitist sounding whether that was your intention or not. Noone really attacked you before that, so there was no reason to immediately start slinging insults and such.

On topic, yeah, I liked having an episode strictly about Monarch/Dr. GF but it wasn't as funny as I was expecting. It definitely had a few gems though.

Another new episode premiered today on adultswim.com. It was another "origin" episode. This time it dealt with Pete White and Master Billy Quizboy. It was all right.

The highlight of the episode though was:

It was a total G.I. Joe parody. Pretty good.

I hope we get back to more 'present day' episodes that push the overall plotline forward. Regardless, this one explained quite a few things.

Gay GI Joes were funny too.

The episode was the same level of the opening, not great, not bad, just okay-good. The next couple of episode need to be present day tomfoolery.

The shirt this week is either going to be the OSI symbol or the Quiz show Q. I'd buy a shirt with that Quiz Show Q on it

Another new episode premiered today on adultswim.com. It was another "origin" episode. This time it dealt with Pete White and Master Billy Quizboy. It was all right.

I hope we get back to more 'present day' episodes that push the overall plotline forward. Regardless, this one explained quite a few things.

I agree. Episode was decent. It's cool to see some gaps filled, but I'm ready for more present-day action too.

Kinda comes across like the show is getting too full of itself when it goes so heavy on the flashback - but maybe that's just me.

yo some background info from jacksons lj regarding shirt info and the episode itself:

For those of you peak-at-your-Christmas-presents types out there, this week's episode of The Venture Bros. is already viewable online over at the Adult Swim Fix .

I won't spoil it or anything for those of you who'd rather wait until it's on TV Sunday night, but "The Invisible Hand of Fate" was the first episode to be written and produced for season 3, mainly because I originally planned to write it as the penultimate episode of season 2...before the finale got away from us and turned into a two-parter. Given some of the secret histories revealed within, you can well imagine why I would have wanted to shed some light on these particular characters before launching into the finale story. But it was worth the wait, I think.

For the record, I wouldn't have aired this one third in an ideal world, but production deadlines forced our invisible hand. While I'm quite proud of the episode, I worry that throwing another secondary character/flashback-heavy episode at you guys so soon after our Monarch-centric premiere could be a bit confusing--or, worse yet, kind of disappointing--and the episode mightn't get judged fairly on its own merits. But whatever...hopefully you're all into it. And if you're not, there's always next week's episode, "Home Is Where The Hate Is," which is a super-hot Doc & Jackson joint script (and, for no particular reason, probably the most beautifully animated episode of The Venture Bros. ever) and would have aired third if not for the fact that we're still mixing it!

Shirt Club Update:

The Guild of Calamitous Intent shirts and Super-Bonus Brock Samson Kodokan Blood Judo Subscribers-Only shirts will begin shipping next week. For those of you who ordered and are getting antsy wondering where your shirts are, they're being lovingly crafted at the printer's as I write this, and those overworked folks will be jumping onto the Killinger shirts shortly thereafter. Please allow this LJ post to serve in the place of some mass email--this Shirt Club thing has blown up in a way we never expected, but we will get everyone their shirts as quickly as possible. Our website did warn that they could take 3-5 weeks for delivery, but we plan to stick closer to the 3 than the 5.

One caveat for you 2XL subscribers only: some of you will be getting your super-bonus Brock Samson Kodokan Blood Judo shirts a little later than others, because we apparently cleaned American Apparel out of all their 2XL white/red ringer tees. But they're making more, and we'll get them to you as soon as possible. Your Guild shirts are right on schedule, though.

I won't spoil the surprise of this coming Sunday's shirt for you, but... those of you who've been craving a little color in your life after two weeks of plain black tees? You're going to get your wish.

And just a friendly reminder to you week-to-week Shirt Club enthusiasts: Orders for each weekly shirt officially close at 11:59pm (EST) Saturday nights!

And speaking of t-shirts... the Adult Swim Store is selling their own Venture Industries logo shirt , which I thoroughly endorse, and which Shirt Club won't be offering our own version of. So if our shirts don't float your sartorial boat, please check out theirs.

Okay, enough of this...I gotta go Hulk. I mean "write."

We Love You,

JP

Pete, I dunno. He seems like he's very dependent on other people. He always needed someone to help him along and he found that in Billy. When Billy left to help with you OSI, you can see that Pete's life is just terrible living in the trailer and all messy. Funny episode, but I am tired of the moppets as characters. They used up the brunt of their one joke humor when they first appeared.

They need to get killed in some horribly hilarious manner, I was hoping the boys of the henchmen would somehow do it.

Sgt Hatred makes me laugh, I was sad his wife wasn't in the episode. I'm thinking the next shirt will be based on his Tattoo somehow.

Cloning the dead kid was genius, and it was fantastic that the kid that Brock ended up hating and wanting to beat up was actually his son. "Doc, wait a sec! They're kids... let them sort it out!"

Episodes like this remind me of why I love this show so much.

Gotta agree, this season is getting better and better as it goes on.
Now, if Quymn and her posse come back into the story, i'd entertain that they're siblings somehow, but otherwise i wouldn't read too much into it. i got the feeling she has red hair, adventures, scientist, etc because she and her group were supposed to be analogous the the Venture team, not necessarily intertwined. But yeah, if she comes back into the show then there is likely to be more to it.

My favorite part was also when she slammed the brakes and Doc went flying off the roof and down the hood, that was fucking hysterical. Nobody reacting to it and then the next scene just starting up sealed the deal. It's just so assumed at this point that Doc fucks up so often that little shit like that isn't even supposed to surprise anyone, it's normal.

As for the wereadile, he could've taken notes from Brock Samson and kill 2 birds with one stone like he always does.

You forget his name is Dean, and he's a pussy. He fuckin ran away at the mear sight of another teenage boy. How do you think he's gonna react to girls he's explicitly states he's not attracted to, start trying to fuck him?
He'll scream, like a little girl.

Hey Dean should sing vocals for a band, similar to Robert Plant in Zep. He's got that high pitches voice, all he needs is to grow some balls and stop being a pussy, which he's done two episodes in a row, but he's still a pussy. At least he's not wearing a speed suit.

And yes best joke in the whole show was when Venture Flies off the roof of the car, followed by an orangutang beatin up the wearadile, followed by 'bottle that ass', followed by Samson's awkward, 'blood rushed straight to his... umm', followed by Dean instructing Hank to come to the jungle with dynamite or something, and then he walks backwards into the foliage. Another new ep...

It wasn't an action packed episode but it really pushed a lot of plotlines forward. It was nice to see the Monarch bond with his two special henchmen. Its starting to look like there's two separate factions in the Monarch's army and the general army seems like they like Dr. Girlfriend's leadership. Brock's lost son reappears and acts like a douche. Pefect line: "Now I know you're Hank's friend." And of course the two monarch henchmen reveal why they won't die. Hilarious. I'm scared to think what Hank will do with his new "knowledge". For a somewhat "filler" episode, it set up a lot of great plots.

I thought for sure one or both of the henchmen were going to die this episode, the way they were acting all cocky about being "unkillable" That would have been a shock. I still feel sorry for number 1, but at least he went down fighting.

Why is Ms. Girlfried, wife, whatever back to wearing her drab old costume? Her butterfly outfit was much cooler.

The Voltron tribute was awesome! An ice cream cone arm? what the hell??

I was hoping Number 1 would not have died.

The Monarch's ultimate success at tricking Jonas Jr. was completely unexpected. The manner in which it all worked out and its unexpected success was just pure comedy gold.

Number 21 and 24 cockiness was starting to get on my nerves. Regardless of that, their logic was totally spot on and hilarious.

 we're quickly coming to the end of S3, only 3 more episodes left. Last 2 are another 2-parter, and from the name you can pretty much tell that it's about the Monarch going after Doc, as he mentioned halfway through last weeks episode. Sounds like JJ will be involved too, judging from the name.

So i don't know if anyone has seen the commercials for this weeks coming episode? They only show one brief scene and it's not a comical one. If you haven't seen it, it's Brock driving in his car and then the car locks everything down and he loses control of it, then it tells him he is "fired" which i would assume means the OSI are trying to kill him? And it very much does not look like a flashback from his hair.

That would be a cool and logical plot twist if Brock was working with the Monarch...

As for the laser trap, I think they did trip it. Didn't the alarms go off? It's just that since they've become regular supporting characters they were thus unkillable. Poor #1 was not a supporting character so he died.

(Don't complain about spoilers okay. Stop reading).

Anyhow, its already been mentioned that Doc Venture was killed by the Guild. From the flashbacks it seems that the Guild originally was a group of famous inventors/writers/magicians. Then the group splintered because half wanted to use the Orb for evil and the other half wanted to use it for good. Now what I'm unclear is what side Rusty's grandfather was on. He wanted to use the orb and his bodyguard killed him for it. Who was giving orders to the bodyguard? Was the bodyguard acting on his own accord?

A lot of questions... OSI definitely knows about the orb and the need to keep it hidden. When OSI thought Brock failed at keeping the Orb secret he was going to get eliminated. Did OSI exist way back when? Maybe OSI was started by that old bodyguard.

Anyhoo... awesome episode. It had me on edge the whole time. A lot of great lines...

Wanted to make sure everyone who watched that episode noticed some key stuff. During the flashbackish scene where they talk about using the orb... the magician that gets carried out is the same voice actor for orpheus, and i would gamble is his grandfather who swear revenge. Later, when the alchemist figures out where it is, the scene shows him staying quiet and seemingly trying to act like he doesn't know what is going on.
There's got to be more to the Kano thing too, since the rest of the old venture team feels so embarrassed/distraught about Ven Sr.'s death.

That was a pretty good episode. I laughed at the Nintendo DS Lite line.

I noticed the Orpheus voice actor, too. Phantom limb's grandfather was obvious. At first, I thought Sambo (?) was a nod to Colonel Gentleman's gay bodyguard ("My faithful bodyguard"). I think he was acting of his own accord and trying to "protect the world" from it being unleashed.

He asks if they were documents which is kind of referring to stuff like when the little dude was praising Venture every time he had an idea like "Oh man, just like the old days!" And Venture agreed.

In other words, people are wondering wether or not those "cartoon" episodes are real events that happened and someone randomly recorded there adventures, or just some made up stuff.

Thing is, it can't be said for sure at this point.

Agreed, all the characters looked slightly different. Col Gentleman had different hair entirely, and doc sr's face looked kinda funny too in the beginning. i'm thinking it was basically a cartoon made about real-life (um, relatively) adventures rusty had growing up. And that would mean lots of people assume things about Doc because of the cartoon, would explain all the fans of him, etc.

Overall the 3rd season couldn't eclipse the 2nd, but was still pretty damned good overall. Definitely got better as it went on too.

Some questions i saw mentioned in here that i think i might know...
Helper rigged himself with a couple of hooks and stuff on his arms. How he did that i dunno, but that's how he was able to drive the car. Him getting messed up like that and then still working has happened several times so it didn't really surprise me.

The moppets had to be who set the bomb off, there wasn't anyone else left to. They've also been actively plotting and trying to kill 24 since the season began, so it would make a lot of sense. As usual, this will probably never be explained or even brought up again.

Yeah you can definitely see the animation progress as the first season goes on. That pilot episode looks wack as shit, it's like newgrounds flash bad. You can tell just how they hadn't even nailed down the characterizations for people yet either, the Monarch's costume is all different, etc. The writing gets better too, but that's a little more subjective.

The thing about Baron was in the special Season 2 dvd thingy, they joke around about how they're done with him in the show (good riddance imo). Then they joke about explaining why billy's hand is messed up, which they had apparently planned to do in S2 and just didn't have time for so it went to S3.

Watching old school Venture Bros. has me wanting me to see more of that same style and simplistic comedy. I actually prefer the old school grit and Brock Samson's 2-Dimensionality w/ the all killer no-filler approach to his job. That slow thumb movement into eye gouge is so god tier!

Dr.Venture was actually less of an condescending a-hole too which is one of the reasons I started to detest his character over time.
Yeah, true that.
Seem like Dr. V was more of the "hey guys, cut some slack! So I fucked up" kind of person, were as when the series progress he was just very condescending.

And Brock was a lot more brutal too.
Guy never gave the dudes he fucked up a chance to talk, like what he did to monark (?).

"We're are the boys?!"
"Wait-- just wait a moment! AAAAHHHHHH!!"
