View Full Version : Trying to get my GF to like Star Wars

ok after spending an entire year trying to convince my girlfriend to watch star wars with me she has finally agreed! my only problem now is that I dont know which to pick episode 3 or 4 she has only agreed to watching one so myplan is to get her hooked with one movie so she'll watch the rest. I was thinking episode 3 since it has the flashiest fight scenes and sets up the other movies, I was also thinking episode 4 since I feel its a little more straight foreward. she has always hated star wars for no reason she hasnt even seen them so I want her to give the films a chance since star wars is one of my passions and I want to share it with her..

....Hmmm.
I would think that SW4: A New Hope would probably be your best bet.
If your G/F is any thing like my sister (who also didn't care for SW, but was willing to give it a chance), you may run the risk of her being bored within the first half-hour, upon watching Episode 3. EP4 is much more straight forward, and less on the faux political drama, which is also appreciated.

First one, Episode 4: A New Hope. I don't think any of them are that significantly better than the others in that it's worth seeing them out of order. What is she, a six year old? Forget the prequels.
And if she doesn't like them, then fuck her. Not literally, but figuratively.
No lie, those movies are like objectively, scientifically, awesome movies. True, all movies (or mediums of art, in general) are subjective, but to a point. If you think the Mona Lisa is crap, for example...that says much more about you than it does about the Mona Lisa.
If she doesn't like Star Wars, then she's got mental problems. She's a crazy person.

The easiest route is to force feed her lard until she's 300 lbs and steal her deodorant.

Star Wars was never really appealing to me until I decided to watch episode 3. Once I watched episode 3, I looked at all the other movies. I personally recommend letting her watch 3, because it may spark her interest to atleast watch 4, 5, and 6.

Start her off at the beginning, on Episode I. Jesus, you want to introduce her series by throwing her right into the third one? Might as well start her on Dickens by opening up to a random page in the middle of Tale of Two Cities.
Actually, require her to watch all six movies in order from Phantom to Jedi. Tell her she'll do it if she truly loves and respects you, and that if she doesn't, you'll tease all the female members of her family until they develop eating disorders.

fuck no. The prequels should not be watched until after you have seen the originals. The prequels don't fucking count as Star Wars as Star Wars implies something magically good. "Star Wars prequel" implies something really fucking shitty. The only Star Wars things about hte prequels were Darth Maul, the Emperor, Yoda, and Christopher Lee. Everything else isn't canon imo. The prequels should only be watched after she has seen the originals in order for her to fully understand the collective rape of multiple generations of young boy's childhoods that Lucas has committed.
Let her watch Star Wars (episode 4. what the fuck do you think I am talking about? The phantom menace?. non special edition as special is just a pc designation for retards). Then make her watch Empire and Jedi, non special editions. After that make her watch Indiana Jones (start with Raiders, then Doom, then Last Crusade.)

Has to be ep 5 of all things. I mean it leaves so many loose ends she can't but help to have to see the rest of the films to figure stuff out. Especially since it leaves the story unfinished. But too bad it's only 3 or 4. If she has a tolerence of older film then 4 for sure, but if she needs the new then ep 3.

Hate on the prequels all you want, but there are two reasons I advocate introducing a new viewer to them before moving on to the original trilogy:
1. Much of the reason why so many fans dislike the prequels is because they grew up on the originals, thus, they're already accustomed to the insane level of imagination that inhabits every frame of the movies. Nothing short of the second coming of Christ would have impressed them by the time the prequels came around. For a new viewer, this obviously won't pose a problem if the films are watched in the order of the story.
2. Even if you dislike the prequels as movies, they enrich the original films so much that they absolutely must be seen in order to enjoy the full depth of the story. Just as Empire added layers upon layers that weren't otherwise present in the first Star Wars movie, the prequels add more layers to the original trilogy. The full arc of the story, in order, is nothing short of a modern myth.

I was in the same boat. I decided to start with IV, since I feel it's the best in the series. She really liked it. After that, she watched I, II (her favorite), III, V, and VI.

im not a fan of star wars personally but, startn her on the newer ones would make more sense imo. They are just easier to watch...my older sis loves star wars...i didnt watch one until the one that came out in like 99 or whatever...when darth vader is a kid? Anyway after i seen that one..i then made the jump to watch the older ones...

If you have to try and convince your GF to watch some sci-fi movies, then good luck to you on that relationship. I hate stubborn bitches like that, just fucking sit back and try to enjoy something that your man enjoys. He's not asking you to take a lightsaber up the ass while dressed up as a fucking Ewok - it's just a movie.
Wait. Are we talking about the original trilogy or the new ones? If it's the new one's then you have no chance. Even I won't watch that new shit-trilogy.

one evening just pop in the vhs/dvd/HD/blu-ray whatever you want to watch. if she objects just say "well too bad, I want to watch this". and if she says "you always do this to me wah wah wah!" just bring up ALL the times she made you watch/do stupid crap you didnt want to do. it works like a dream with my gf.
do I REALLY want to watch Wife Swap/Girls Next Door (tits are the only positive thing about that show)? NO!! but do I watch it because I know Ill have a damn good reason for getting my way later on? oh yes.

ESB
For these reasons.
#1 its the best
#2 it will tweak her female brain interests
How? Details. Her brain will be caught up on what happened first.
Why they are on hoth, who is the emperor, vader, etc, what is the force, who was Obi Won, who does Liea like more. Then when the movie is over she will want to see the next one. In the meantime your answer to all those questions can be, "Well, sweety, if we only watched the first one" (explaining the "first" is 4 and so on)
So with her interest raised you should be able to get her to watch all 4-6.
If she doesnt like it, she never will and is stupid. dump her.
If she does, take her through teh craptacular adventure of 1-3. Warn her its not nearly as good.

really the ones I can never get enough of are New Hope and Empire. Ive probably posted a long winded rant about my distaste for ROTJ. If I were a newbie to Star Wars I wouldnt never, EVER be able to take the series seriously if I started with episode 1. fuck Jar Jar, fuck that big jew Watto, those korean trade federation aliens, fuck little kid Anakin (even though he is totally wizard!). there is just an abundance of things to hate in that movie. New Hope is really the only smart way to start it off.
