Mini Road trip

Hey guys im having a mini road trip from NY to Wisconsin with couple of my friends. Since it's about 16 hour drive we dont want to drive through all the way, are there any places to look around while we are traveling? Feel free to name some places.

or you can take an alternate route through Canada and stop in at Toronto, Buffalo, Rochester, drive through the adirondacks
