Is Dawn of Mana related to Secret of Mana, story wise? or any mana games related in that way?

So there's this new site called wikipedia... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mana_(series))

While some titles of the World of Mana series do share direct connections with other installments, the games of the series have few concrete links.[6] There is no overall explicit in-game chronological order. Further, according to Koichi Ishii the games do not take place in exactly the same world, and characters or elements who appear in different titles are best considered alternate versions of each other. Instead, the connections between each title are more abstract than story-based, linked only on the karmic level.[4]

The best mana game was Final Fantasy Adventure imo. The SNES games come close behind and Legend of Mana was also good. Unfortunately the rest are either mediocre or horrible.

Retronauts explanation of the mana series is pretty damn fucking funny.

edit. sorry, I guess I got carried away. The games are very loosely linked in that they pretty much only share the mana tree, mana sword, and the monsters. I think SD2 and 3 are related, SD3 likely comes before SD2/secret of mana.in that they explain how the cannon travel started. I think Legend of Mana gives explanation of Flammie, the series mascot. It also is explained why the mana sword is in its sorry state in SD2. So in my guess is that it's LoM, SD3, SD2, Sword of Mana/Final Fantasy Adventure in that order. Haven't touched DS/PS2 games, they're too expensive. I hear that Children of Mana has zero stories though.

Mana games were my childhood and my obsession. Love the music and the visuals in the mana series. I used to have secret of mana music score, that's how obsessed I am. It's unfortunate that mana, saga and parasite eve games are square-enix IP, because it's pretty much clear now that they don't know what to do with their series any more. I grew up with FFA on GBA, I still remember that one spot in the ship with wolves where it's possible to power level with axe. SD2 is a good game, and even though not officially of mana series, s.o. stars is good. They're all mostly okay games, not exceptional.. SD 3 has the best game mechanics and best characters imo, but music is the worst of the bunch. I agree with the guy who recommended SD 2 and SD3; in those games it's actually possible to do combos and lock enemies down, but it's pretty difficult to manage positions. These guys need their fighting games in my opinion, especially kevin.

Dawn of Mana is Seiken Densetsu 4, so yes.

The US names of the mainline games are thus:

1. Final Fantasy Adventure (GB) OR Sword of Mana (GBA remake)
2. Secret of Mana (SNES)
3. (unreleased)
4. Dawn of Mana (PS2)

Secret of Evermore > Secret of Mana......

Ok not really, but I loved that game. :'( Same exact type of gameplay.

If the Heroes of Mana interface was more like FF12 Revanent Wings, it would've been way better. The way they had the AI to where it made units seemingly intentionally walk directly into the enemy was frustrating...

No. Seiken Densetsu 3 was never released here.

The PlayStation one is Legend of Mana, which isn't part of the mainline series (kind of like how Vice City and San Andreas aren't actually mainline GTA games).

Secret of Mana and Secret of Mana 2 (Seiken Densetsu 3) were godlike. Legend of Mana was okay, and the rest of them sucked, especially Dawn of Mana from what I hear.
