I just became aware of this issue. Massive highways are being built which start from inside Mexico, travels through the U.S. and end inside Canada. It is part of an arrangement settled upon by bush, fox, and the Canadian pm back in 2005. It was called the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SSP) It is an extension of the NAFTA treaty ( i think). Anyway, supposedly it is the beginning of the formation of the North American Union (NAU). It would be similar to what the European Union is.
Is this good or bad? Who benefits? Who does it hurt? No one seems to be talking about this. But the states through which the highway is being built have brought the issue to their senate floors. Some states allow it and others have reservations because of eminent domain, and the idea of non-us citizens driving 18-wheelers down main st. Not to mention who is actually building the highway, the cost, tolls, who maintains it, etc.
here are a few links i found.
this is some confusing stuff, real shaddy. the ending is damn...

As much as you want to ignore it and bash zeitgeist, this is real jackass. I for one dont want it. Especially with all the problems Mexico is having with its police force and the cartels. Last thing I want is that shit spilling over here. Yeah we have drug problems, but not like they do.

Agreed, it'd like to see this thread kept open as long as it is civil and based on fact.

Pretty sure this the original post is trolling. However:

The whole NAU thing is based more on paranoia than in fact anyway- and mostly American paranoia. I mean, really...I think of all 3 countries the USA would gain the least from it.

the issue at hand is the actual construction of the highway.
correct me if i am wrong, it is planned to go forward.
Arizona has express their concerns a few days ago.

Last month, Oklahoma gave the ok.

According to this, the highway is under international law. Oklahoma is about to relinquish their 11th amendment right to sue the state in federal court.
i see if i can find what the others states have done so far.

My main problem is that we are losing sovereignty in this. Hell america wont even reap the money from the tolls, a company from spain will. Can you imagine committing a crime or violation on that thing, you wont be held up to american law, but international. Then there is the issue of eminent domain, i know some people in texas were in austin protesting, albeit alex jones was there too, but its for real, and its a serious issue. Its not simply a trade agreement, i hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but there are already laws in effect that will allow canadian and mexican troops in us soil to help keep the peace should a situation big enough arise. yeah last thing i want is the us army on the streets with automatic weapons telling me what to do should martial law ever be declared, and its comming, but now canadians and mexicans could do that too? fuck that shit. Seriously we need to go back to an isolationist foreign policy and fix our shit at home before we even want to incorporate with a borderline second world country and canada, although canada wouldnt be so bad, but mexico is like a window into the future of america in 50 years time. Instead of the rich mexicans coming to the us, its gonna be the rich americans going to canada, or south america(paraguay im lookin at you).
Regarding the NAFTA superhighway: to some degree it already exists.

Here is an article from The Nation, which is often shamelessly leftist, but it's a good article none the less.

As is often the case, the root of the conspiracy theory is something much more boring.

Your whole point about whose troops get to enforce martial law upon you is weak by your own admission. There were private mercenaries and National Guard in New Orleans that shot at people for looting, or turned them back when they were trying to flee the city to survive. Really, read some of those accounts. I'd say we could use some goddamn Canadians.
