Being in a Batman mood and excited for the new movie, i was curious as to SRKers favorite theme of all the Dark knights onscreen incarnations...

In before poll.
I'm torn between the OG series theme and TAS theme.
Edit: TAS won by coin flip.

I feel like such a douche voting for anything Danny Elfman, but I've got fond memories of TAS.

89 Elfman Batman. C'mon, TAS is basically just a re-done version of this theme. When you think of "Batman", its that 89 theme that comes into your head.
Honorable mention to the Batman Beyond theme though, which should NOT be slept on.

what is the knock people have against danny elfman? the man has done some good work. Is it cause he's not classically trained?

I always thought the phantasm theme was slept on by the general public, being animated.
I really like the choir part of it, seems to have to a lght and dark aspects.

No, its cause most of his shit is goofy, poppy and lame. He just stretches jingles out into full length songs.

:u: but most of the movies that he does are kind of off the wall. Can you have a serious score to peewee's big top adventure?

That's been the sum total of his career though. Compared to composers who write scores that enrich the cinematic experience, this dude writes safe shit time and time again, so if it sucks, you just think "Well, this was just a kids movie, so I expected it to be shit", yet he gets a disproportionate amount of praise for it because he writes for every fucking Tim Burton movie.

:u: praise really? from my casual interactions with movie score geeks and pop culture references it seems like he gets crapped on a lot more than he's praised these days.

Ah, I've been out of the game for a while now, and most the people riding his jock weren't that great of musicians anyway.

Of course they're pretty much the same, Danny Elfman also composed the TAS theme music.

my rankings:
1. Elfman for Batman and Batman Returns. Basically his best work by far.
2. Mask of the Phantasm and TAS
3. Begins/TDK. This might move up though as the Begins score was basically unfinished according to Hans Zimmer.
4. Beyond
5. 60s
really fucking big several galaxy-sized gap
6. Schumacher.

I actually dig the 2nd theme to The Batman a lot. It's got a cool 1960's kick to it. I'm surprised it's not on the list.
