ok ill try to keep this a short story as best as possable. side note this is relevent to here: tier 1 job (http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=156590)

anyway here is the issue. i quit my job at the boys and girls club giving my resignation letter on the 5.14.08 leaving 5.28.08. at that time i had no job lined up except for good faith that i would get the tier one job. the t1 job pays 60k all together, and its something that i wanna do. i had an interview with them on the 16 and it went great. they told me that i would only need one more interview on and then they would make thier decission. only thing was the second interview owuldnt be until 2 weeks later b/c the regional manager that i would have to interview is in a traveling meeting and wouldnt be back until then.

panicing that i would not get this job and be jobless i kept looking. and scored 3 other intervew on my last week of workiing.1 and 2 had to schedule me the same day 5.27.08 . job #1 i hated anyway b/c i was being interviewed for 1.5 hrs for 3 diffrent people and it was pointless (offering 38k) causeing me to be late for #2.

the #2 one went great but they asked me why was i late? i told them the trus about i was in #1 and i didnt know that it would have taken so long. they were offering me 33k b/c thats what i put as my salary requirements (being desparete). so i told the employer that i would need more now being that i have been getting better offers. he told me to make an offer and i said 38k and he was fine with that. he then told me that i dont have to decide right away b.c he knows that i went on interviews. he told me that if i call him the following morning to decide he will not interview anyone else.

at that time i was looking at my options. the t1 job should be callig me anyday now to interview for that week. if i score that second interview id be good. so ill tell #2 yes and if i know by monday t1 will take me ill call back and decline it. problem was, t1 told me that there is an interview on 5.29.08 but it would not be the last one. there will be one more on the following week. so im like shit!!!! ill say yes to #2 but i would have to call off or be late my first week at work.

on 5.29.08 the interview went well. i met the superviser that i would be giving me m routes in brooklyn. very laid back guy and very down to earth. now the person who is coaching me through the interviews is my recruiter. apparently he scouted me from monster and i guess if he gets me in he will get paid. anyway i explained to him that i left one job and now i will have to except the other one being that its a sure thing vs my t1 isnt. in addiction i would need enough notice on the final interview to let the other job know in advance. he said he will do that.

now job #3 was a go as well. i told them can start on the 6.16.08. this was in case non of this worked out for me and i had a back up plan. only thing is this job is $15per hr BUt they give you a car and a cell phone along with a gas card for work.

on 5.30.08 friday the recruiter calls me and tells me that the interview is on monday 6.2.08 11am................. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? what happend to my ample notice? #2 starts monday!!! HOW TEH FUCK DO U CALL OFF WORK OR COME IN LATE YOUR FIRST DAY?!?!

most people tell me to take it as a sign and dont go for t1. not a sure thing and you got something thats not far form your house and you can relax. but naw we only get the best when we reach high.

i need a solid excuse HELP!!!!!!!!

what i got so far is:

call them tonite and tell them that my son is in the hospital and i wont be in until the afternoon. {wont they ask or expect to see proof?}

go there at 8 work till 10 then get a random phone call and act like its a diar emergency and run outta there and come back after the interview frantic.
A. house on fire B. get someone to take my car with a key then low jack will call me to tell me that my car is moved. then i can later on say that my car got towed after i get back. {would they ask fro proof?}

why not ask t1 to reschedual the interview? Or tell the job you need to take a long lunch to take care of some personal business - and offer to stay late that day to make the time/work up that you miss.

Definitley do NOT tell them you are going on an interview - but no need to lie. Also don't fuck yourself with karma.... The ideas you listed are just asking to be raped by karma. It shouldn't be a big deal if you just say its personal and will take an hour or two over lunch time.

Good luck!

thx man. gues i forgot to mention that the t1 stated that they would only be able to interview that day and is also interviewing another prospect that day as well. its he only day that the regional manager will be there. he wont be in 2 weeks after that. if i dont go to this one. they might be desperate to take the other guy being that they wanted to fill this postion a long time ago.

not to mention that the final interview in in new jersey wich would be like an 1:15 hr away. that long lunch break will not be and option being that it would be like 3.5 hours total.

appreciate the idea tho

what happend to paul pierce lol ?

Begging their forgiveness I say that you call in sick, speak with your direct manager and ask if it's okay. You figure there won't be much you'll be missing. It may look bad, you calling out on your first day and all but if all goes well who cares.

Don't have to lie. What if you tell them you need an extra day just "to finalise personal matters"?

Anyway, say something like "Family" or "personal issues" because it will be half true in any case.
"family emergency" is pretty convincing sounding, go for "family frenzy" if you're daring.

Option 1: Reschedule with T1
Option 2: Tell #2 the truth
Option 3: Stick with #2 since it's already assured

I listed them in order of which is the better option.

better of going with the t1 interview, like you said if you get it the hell with the #2 job.
shit happens and they arent gonna like that you missed the first day but you only live once and really good jobs dont come up all the time.

so #2 called me this morning wanting to know what happend in y i have to not show up. i told him that my licience got suspended over the weekend and i need to go to long island and fix the matter. we talked and long story short he said to "gimme a call when you fix the matter and i ill think through ur situation and we will see whats will happen". prettymuch saying that hell think about if i still have a job..... the ideal perfect situation is that he dont take e back but i get hired by the t1. but of course, the world dont work like that. i might be fucked. im nervous now : (

... Why did you tell them your license got suspended? WTF.

I don't think the License thing was a good idea. A dedicated person would just take a cab or found some form of public transportation to take to work, this excuse is flimsy. Sickness or Personal family was your best bet, but oh well the damage is done. Hopefully you get T1 and this won't matter. Did T2 send you an offer letter? Did you sign it yet?

So with all the good advice you got in thise thread about how lying isn't a good solution, and you should find a non-lying way to get around missing some work, you went ahead and lied anyways.

Now you are not only being dishonest, but your company things you are some gangbanging piece of shit who gets his license suspended - which is a big negative in terms of employment. Way to shoot yourself in the foot.

really, really bad move. I've been in that situation a few times in my life and it always comes down to greed owning you at the end. On one hand, you can't just take the first thing that comes your way and just because one took longer than the other one and pays more doesnt necessarily mean its the best one. The company that took you in couldve provided you with lots of benefits and opportunities, if both provide the same, well, the people and the job itself here could've been better that it was worth the pay-cut. Now you got yourself into a bad spot where you are unsure if that one you were holding out is going to hire you and even if you do get hired that doesn't mean things will go well at work.

and rooks correct u are. they told me that they do not wanna go further my employment.

i just got back from teh interview. it looked good but they told me that had to interview someone else at 2pm. i said personal matters but i didnt know what else i could have ran with. what truth could i have actually said. now im thinking that i got greedy. i should have stayed with 40k insted of reaching for 60k for now im left with no job. : ( . i should get a call by 5pm

You didn't have to lie at all.. It's none of the jobs business. All you had to say was some personal issues that you needed to attend to that you couldn't reschedule outside of the first day at work. You'll take care of it, adn then all will be well thank you so sorry. If it's a legitimate business and its your first day, there should be absolutely no problems.

Anyways, too late now. I hope for your sake the 60k job works out. I'm not sure waht industry you are in, but if 2 different places offer you 38-40ish and another one is spouting 60 im wondering if you are qualified ... Might have wanted to take it from the bottom and stay with the 40.

thx man. gues i forgot to mention that the t1 stated that they would only be able to interview that day and is also interviewing another prospect that day as well.

considering therse another prospect that is pretty much exactly and probably being fed the same bs by his recruiter i wouldn't be putting too much stock in the job "being yours" yet.

So the T2 job doesn't want you to come into work tomorrow? Where was it a factory? I mean where else could they find your replacement so quickly. Granted calling off on the first day is pretty unprofessional but nonetheless it shouldn't be a fireable offense.

well its a private business. i guess they will start just looking all over. i had to call teh recruiter. not a good sign for me to have to call them but i did. he said he will call me 15 to 20 mins. but that was 15 mins ago. he said that he has been playing phone tag with the guy and he had been busy (aka again not a good sign). man i hate to lose a 50%/50% shot. man i thought that interview went well tho man shit. i odnt know what to do the suspence is killing me

I can't believe you just lied after plenty of people told you specifically NOT to lie. Then you go and lie about your license getting suspended if I'm not mistaken? That is a huge deal! God couldn't you have at least said that you got sick, or something that doesn't imply you were doing illegal things?

This boggles my mind.

I can't say i wouldnt have gone for the 60 a year, because im hella greedy, but. If your gonna tell the lie it has to be a lie that isnt about getting something as important as your license suspended. Is there any good way that can even happen??
