We always get a bunch of nostalgia threads regarding 80s and 90s TV shows, but we almost never talk about earlier shows, like I Love Lucy, Tom & Jerry, The Pink Panther, and Three's Company, so I wanted to start a thread for those, as they are some of my favorite shows and cartoons of all time.

I don't know why, but I thoroughly enjoy I Love Lucy. I think its cause it was one of my moms favorites, but I still enjoy the show today.

I've always been partial to The Greatest American Hero and M*A*S*H. The latter mostly because of the Hawkeye character, and then, after watching the Altman film, again because of Hawkeye. The former because I'd always wondered what superheros would have been like if they were your average guy trying to figure it out on a much more trial-and-error way than say, Spidey. Gotta love the fact that he even loses the manual that would have shown him all his powers.

Three's Company is probably my all-time favorite sitcom, PERIOD. That classic "overheard misunderstanding" never gets old. Chrissy was hot, but I was more leaning towards Joyce Dewitt. Terry was horrible and had not chemistry with Jack and Janet.

Yeah, I've always liked Terri more than Chrissy and Cindy, since she was a more versatile character who could be smart while still playing the ditzy blonde once in a while.

I really hated the series finale, though. They were setting up Jack to end up with Janet since the beginning, but a small ratings drop made them think that following the British format and going with that awful Three's A Crowd show would be a better move.

It also sucks how they only told John Ritter that the show would be ending and that he would be the only continuing character and basically caught everyone else by surprise (which is why I think the finale felt rushed and didn't feature any returning guests, like the Roepers or Chrissy).

I watch I Love Lucy still too. Since I finally got cable earlier last week, I watch The Jeffersons, All in the Family, The Andy Griffith Show, The Beverly Hillbillies, Sanford and Sons, Good Times and pretty much most of the shows on TVLand. I grew up on most of these shows. I hope Green Acres comes on which it prolly does.

EDIT: Forgot Dr. Who, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Benny Hill, The Munsters, Route 66 and Car 54 Where are You? Man my parents and sisters had me watching these classics. One of my older sisters got me hooked on Dr. Who. I thought it was boring at first but I started loving and understanding it. I'd watch it on one of our old B&W TV's, we had color too BTW, at night and that just brings back hardcore nostalgia.

Anybody liked the Jack Benny show (TV or radio)? It was pretty much Looney Toons in a variety sitcom setting.. it even had Mel Blanc playing different characters. Funny as hell yet cleaner than Sinbad's comedy act.. if you ignore some of that good-ole-boy stereotyping littered here and there.

cheh,

I couldn't stand I Love Lucy....it wasn't funny to me, and even worse....Lucy was not hot. She was just annoying.

The oldoldold stuff I enjoyed:

Dennis the Menace, the live action show. -It was at least good with Joseph Kearns as Mr. Wilson. Gale Gordon was lame and seemed fruity....plus Gordon's head was the size of Jupiter. Anyway, the show was actually funny to me....I miss it. Plus, Mrs. Mitchell(Gloria Henry..surprisingly tough to find photos on the net) was a legendary TV MILF for me. You just know Tommy was only coming over to the house so often to check Dennis' mom out.

Gilligan's Island - I thought the interaction between Skipper and Gilligan was funny...classic straight man + idiot/goof combo there. The characters on this show were great....and I had a thing for Mary Anne. She was way hotter than Ginger, all the time. She even aged better than the actress who played Ginger.

Three's Company --genuinely funny, AND it had some of the best TnA of all time. Every man has thought of that question---"Janet....or Chrissy? Both at the same time would be niceeeeee." I was more of a Janet fan. It was tragic that she hit the wall early on though...while Suzanne Somers continued to be hot until just recently in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Good Times---I mostly watched for that hot sister..."Thelma"? Bernadette Stanis. She was incredible. Oh yeah...she needs to be on my Eternals™ list, cuz this woman is STILL SMOKING HOT.

The Honeymooners--I think this is the oldest show I liked. It always made me laugh. Ralph and Norton were one of the sitcom duos in the history of tv. Ralph's wife could get BONE™, btw. I was probably the only kid watching this on a regular basis in syndication back in the 80s. I most likely got started watching because this would come on in the afternoons right before a cartoon. I'd probably get this on dvd if I see it one day....even the theme music was memorable for me(*yeah, it's already part of my collection)

The Three Stooges---who didn't like the Stooges? It is a requirement for anyone who loves comedy to have seen their antics. They were masters(pioneers?) of slapstick, and their overall chemistry was always smooth and yielding hilarious results. Unfortunately they started to go stale once the lineups changed....Shimp had his moments, but wasn't nearly as funny as Curly, and the guy after Shimp was even worse.

Mary Tyler Moore ---I just watched her show occasionally because she was one of the sexiest women EVER to appear on tv.
*I love how the anteater from Pink Panther sounded exactly like....Jackie Mason. (example of Mr. Mason himself -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jn9cX5BaqYc <---the best "american jew comic voice" ever, ladies and gentlemen.)

And many more!---

Bewitched---watched it just because Elizabeth Montgomery = 9.5 at least.

I Dream of Jeanie ---same reason...that woman is gorgeous. Sexual fantasy is off the scale hot when you factor in the scenario of her as your personal genie! Ohhhhh that show should've been put on in the modern era on HBO with tons of nudity and sexual situations. Those sheer leggings....good lordy  On another note...I really loved that theme song too.

The Addams Family --I actually enjoyed that. Morticia was hot so of course that was a factor.

The Munsters --this would come on early Saturday mornings before the cartoons started.

The Dick Van Dyke Show is still one of the best sit-coms ever. The fact that Mary Tyler Moore was at her most broken-tier just makes it even better.

Remy Saotome
06-02-2008, 07:03 AM
The Dick van Dyke show was my favorite classic sitcom. God, I haven't watched an episode of that in years.

Also, classic Star Trek. That show was awesome and always will be.

I am also a big fan of The Flintstones, The Addams Family, The Munsters, Get Smart, and Gilligan's Island. Although Gilligan can get old pretty quick, like no way I could sit through a marathon of that show. Bewitched! started out pretty good, but it gets noticibly worse in the later seasons.

Finally, it was just terrible, and yet I liked Lost in Space too. I mean, every time I watch it I groan at all the stupidity and corniness of it, yet it is still fun for some reason.

54 (55 now, I think) and she could STILL get it.

The Three Stooges are freaking AWESOME! Remember when LC & M were ice-deliverers? They had to walk alllll the way up this long flight of stairs. When they were at the bottom, it was a huge block, and by the time they got to the top, it was a little ice-cube. Or how about when they were painters and they had to paint this rich womens house and Moe (I think) was pulling a phone cord and just kept ripping it out of the wall? What about "Disorder in the Court"? Or the Halloween ep? You can find their DVDs in the $5.50 bin at Wal-Mart (but that says nothing about their quality, trust me). They still crack me up when I see them.

LC & M were the true Stooges. Shemp was funny...rarely...(such as in the one with the gorilla in the cage) and Joe. As far as I'm concerned, Joe didn't exist.

Little Rascals - Man this show is so great, because it is BLATANTLY sexist and racist, its too fucking good. Its was made way before everyone in America became a yeast infected vagina.

Popeye - Black and White Popeye kicked so much ass, he was all over the place getting things HANDLED. A few of the color Popeyes are good, but that was the beginning of the end for Pop.

Get Smart - Holy shit this show was so awesome, I watched that show every afternoon. I am a black belt in the 10 most deadly forms of self defense!! (Gets whupped) Would you believe..... (P.S. I thought agent 99 was hot as hell when I was a kid... :lovin:)

Someone mentioned Sanford and Son, Redfox's stand up was hilarious the way he made fun of racism in his day. He was all "I read in some white people's magazine named X that all black people carry knives, so I went and got me one to carry around." or something like that, good stuff.

yeah, I vaguely remember having a wet dream thanks to Ms. Elvira. Her mountainous melons were so serious.....I could only glance up at her face occasionally while she was talking about...whatever the hell she was talking about. Have you guys seen her lately? This woman could STILL GET BONED™. It always amazes me when these broads manage to parry the age factor, and continue to radiate hotness.

One great quote I'll never forget from Popeye..."ehhh it's just one of those invisible mirages you can't see in the desert..." It always gets a laugh out of me, as it's one of the best examples of the random, low-key muttering going on in 99% of EVERY popeye cartoon. Popeye could be taking a dump, and he's always muttering about something, like "eh, I'll get a little paper here to wipe up OH OHHHHHH ehhhh I should've bought a new roll at the walmart yesterday ehhhh" Non-stop with the muttering, this guy....it kills me. The "invisible mirages" line is the best though.

It was silly how he was always ready to fight for this ugly anorexic slut though....Olive was one of the ugliest broads in the history of cartoons, yet she was somehow a "prize" that Popeye and Bluto constantly fought over. Was there no one else in Popeye's world? Come on, Big Pop, she's not all that.....in fact she's straight up ugly.

....but eating raw, cold, nasty ass spinach out of a can....that has to be worth serious Man Points™ right there in itself...not to mention the awesome stuff he would do once pumped up from that. Popeye got the spinach and it was just game over for you....he would stomp a mudhole in your ass and walk it dry as good ol' JR would say. And then he had special "ass-kicking time" theme music to go with it. Popeye was the man.

I have been suspicious of that can of spinach as well as that box of scooby snacks for as long as I have lived. I've had many a can of spinach in my day and I've NEVER gone even a fraction of a percent above normal human strength. Popeye can eat a can of spinach and hit a lion, tiger, bear, or other animal so hard that they turn into food and clothing. Shaggy and scooby, the legendary cowards of the cartoon world. This is true as long as they don't eat scooby snacks. whatever is in that box will make them take on any foe. ANY foe. goblins, godzillas, werewolves, frakenstien, you name it, they'll do it. hot lesbian sex from daphne and velma? no thanks sez they. You give them a pair of scooby snacks and you can strap capes on their backs and spray paint an "S" on them. During the Fred Quimby era, Tom won a few times. Usually, the instigator would lose. However, with the other iterations of the cartoon, the directors and producers sort of seem to have lost touch with that particular aspect of the show.

Tom & Jerry Tales, though, brings back that original quality, supposedly.

The classic Pink Panther cartoons look pretty good in HD, btw. I have some channel there called Animania and it shows Mr. Magoo and the Pink Panther in HD. When is Cartoon Network gonna step it up?

EDIT - I forget the French inspector's name from the Pink Panther, but I actually prefered those shorts rather than the Pink Panther.

That was in Tom & Jerry Tales? Is the series actually worth watching?I believe that was a classic T&J cartoon. I saw it during the T&J hour on mid-day Cartoon Network once.

Tom and Jerry "Is you is or is you ain't my baby". Nuff said. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about.

 YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! And as for Looney Tunes, it's "Slick Hare" which featured Humphrey Bogart's likeness.

Cartoon network is near-death. they can't seem to get anything right anymore. is that animania channel one you have to order or is it just where you live?

as far as I know, the inspector didnt' have a name in the cartoon. he was only the inspector. his assistant was judo (sp?) however. I wish they would gather up all of the inspector clips and put them on DVD. I'd grab that and Ant and the Aardvark with the lightning quickness.
