View Full Version : My letter to Wendy's

I'm about to leave a comment (or letter) to Wendy's on their website (http://www.talktowendys.com/) about their uncanny ability to fail.

Here it is...

I need instructions on how to sign up for your "How to eat 6 chicken nuggets, 1 order of regular fries and a burger with only 1 BBQ sauce" class.

100% of my last couple of visits to Wendy's have ended in failure. Upon my discovery of that fact, I decided I would not visit the restaurant unless there was absolutely no better option.

Well, today I had to choose between the lesser of two failures and it goes without saying that I was not surprised by the results I received. Even though the type of failure tends to fluctuate in severity from hair in food to incorrect order, one of the details seems to remain fairly consistent per visit. Wendy's reluctancy to provide BBQ sauce. This consistency led me to believe that I may be the one that is at a misunderstanding. Maybe I'm the only one that has encountered this problem. Maybe there was a class I missed that teaches people how to eat their entire Wendy's meal with only 1 BBQ sauce.

I'm not ignorant to the fact that eating a burger or french fries with BBQ sauce might seem weird to some, but since Wendy's doesn't always provide Ketchup for some of it's drive-thru patrons, it makes me wonder if I missed the tutorial class.

So, now I am on a journey to increase my knowledge of Oldmark LLC's/Wendy's policies and procedures.

Is there a specific reason why Wendy's (or the employees) only provides 1 BBQ sauce package per customer?
If a paying customer asks for extra BBQ sauce is the default response always "It's in the bag."?
And finally, is it okay for paying customers to purchase more BBQ sauce?

I don't expect an answer and I don't intend to visit you restaurants EVER again. Nor do I want the free Frosty Float that I'm suppose to receive for telling you about my visit on your website.

I just seek an understanding.

I remember my other rant topic about Wendy's so I decided to ask if anyone here at SRK had questions (or the sudden urge to proofread) or concerns they would like me to bring up before I send this letter.

Wasn't your original thread about how your order got messed up? I think that can be attributed to the fact that the employees you talk to don't really speak English, if I recall correctly. Perhaps the same issue applies here with your need for more BBQ sauce? And does this only apply to the same Wendy's?

Yeah, it's the exact same Wendy's, that's why in my letter I reffernce previous experiences. I'm merely asking for clarification. This time. At the order menu I was well prepared to recieve failure and I did.

Now I just want to ask them some questions.

ask them to bring back chipotle sauce back for their nuggets while you are at it. I would seriously pay 200 dollars for them to bring it back, maybe more. Was i the only one who liked that stuff?

The best part of the letter is when you say you dont want the damn frosty they give you a coupon for.

Nothing is more infuriating then when you take the time to draft a decent letter explaining how they can improve service and they dont even acknowledge anything you say.

And to top it off they give you a fucking coupon for more crap food just to patronize you!

They'll probably give him a free baked potato instead.

Seriously though, the list of fuckups that Wendy's have done to my meal is endless. I ask for Chili sauce, they don't give me a spoon. They give me a spoon, they don't give me a straw. They give me both, but they mix up my order with my friend's. If it wasn't for the Spicy Chicken sandwiches I would've gave them up long ago.

You guys must have shitty Wendy's, it seems. From what I can remember, I've never had any kind of screw up at Wendy's. The biggest order screw up I can remember I had at a fast food place was at Jack in the Box. I ordered a Bruchetta Basil Chicken sandwich or whatever it was. I get my food, which was just a simple combo, and return home. I bite into the sandwich and notice something very, very wrong: the chicken pattie was missing!

I hear you there.
You can tell them how you want it 1,000 times before you drive up to the window, they will NEVER get it right.
Ever.

Wendy's is pretty mixed for me.
Usually they're good, but when they fuck up, they seriously fuck up.
I ordered a baconator, medium fry with a coke.
They gave me a spicy chicken, large fry with a frosty.
WHAAT THE FUCK.
And it was midnight, with no cars behind me so it definitely wasn't someone elses order. I mean, I loveeeeeeeee their spicy chicken, but I wanted a goddamn burger.

They're still delicious as a motherfucker though, so I don't mind it too much as long as they fix it.

Honestly, with the kind of people working there, I REALLY, REALLY don't see how you can - for one second - expect to get your order done properly. Any extra requests would just throw them off so badly that a vortex of infinite stupidity would just open up under them and suck them into a never-ending twisting nether of pain and misery.

I mean every once in a blue moon you'll come across someone who actually knows what they're doing, but I think you'd find Amelia Earhart alive before you grace the presence of such a mythical being. D:

lol this letter made me laugh

I used to be a assistant store manager at Wendy's and heard complaints like yours all the time. You don't really need to write a letter, here's my advice. Well I'll give you the evil advice and good advice in that orders.

Evil advice
Just go back to the store and explain what happened, and you'll be able to get free food. Lots of free food if you play your cards right. If you really wanna get results, I'd recommend going in at a different time then you ate. Usually the least experienced manager works from 4 till close (that was me while i worked there) if you go in to the store from 10 to 4 (earlier if they serve breakfast). Ask to talk to the GM. Most Wendy's have a GM two assistant store managers. Shift managers if it's a bigger store.

You want to talk to the general manager (GM) for this reason. Most Wendy's are in a district of 5-9 stores. If there store is anything like mine, the stores get ranked every period for things like speed of service and complaints. Managers also get promoted, transfered, demoted, and fired because of these ratings. If someone ever calls corporate about a complaint the store looses tons of points in the rankings. This makes GM's really really mad. I'll give you an example, lets say the store runs a day speed of service average of 100 (that's really good). If the store gets a complaint, the stores rankings in the district will make their excellent time more like a 130 which sucks.

Next time you go into a Wendy's there should be a timer by the drive through window. If there aren't any cars in the drive threw, it will stop running and show an average. 100 seconds is really good for the lunch rush, 120 is good for dinner rush. If there average is something like 180 the store is shit and I feel bad for them.

Blah, got sidetracked there. Goto to the store during lunch rush and ask to talk to the General manager. Tell them about your situation. Actually, if they didn't give you a receipt, which is very common in Wendy's because they want fast speed of service so much, I'd recommend exaggerating your story. Saying the fries were cold is easily the most common complaint. I almost garuntee they will not doubt you the least bit on that one. Threaten to call the hot line that's printed on the bag if they show any attitude at all. Remember, you don't want to talk to shift managers or assistant managers, the GM is best. Be very clear that you know which store it is. Ask for a combo meal and they will most likely give it to you. This is not uncommon. Again, managers don't like getting complaints.

kind of on a more positive note, if you wanna be nice and avoid problems like that in the future I'd recommend simply asking for the sauce at the second window. If their store is an image store, which is what mine was, the cash registers don't have specific sauce buttons. Also the coordinator, the person who puts the food in the bag and gets drinks *IMO the most difficult stressful position in the store* might have been busy doing something while you were placing the order. That's pretty common.

If they say it's already in the bag, ask for more. If they say no, ask talk to the assistant manager and threaten to call the hot line. For things like that they really can't say no.

Man um, no. I understand what your suggestions are but I've grown tired of getting the default response.

Mad customer, give free food, everyones happy.

That's always the answer. You can get free anything if you complain right. Some of you know that guy in school who cried about being a virgin so some hot chick would feel sorry for him and let him poke.

I guess I'm the picky person. I want the problem to be solved at it's source or not at all. What's the point of giving free food when the next cutomer has a 90% chance of having the same problems.

I want people to recognize the problem and solve it. Not patch it up.

It seems like Wendy's is one of those spots that doesn't care. So after realizing that, I'm not gonna ask them to change their ways. I'm gonna ask them to explain (or maybe even justify) why they fail.

Some people like service over food and some like food over service.

Serpent

I thought the letter would be about their rapidly shrinking burgers. I don't like fast food in the first place, but with those burgers that small I'd rather just eat elsewhere. BK burgers are actually decently sized, so I'll just eat there instead of Wendys. Good idea, shrink the burgers and figure nobody will notice. You'd have been way better off just increasing prices, people expect prices to go up over time, not food to shrink. The prices go up anyway even with the food shrinking.

You should ask for honey mustard. I always ask for that and get BBQ instead.

I think the worst experience I've had at Wendy's was when my mom was doing a late night food run and ordered whatever she gets and a spicy chicken for me.

They tell her, "We need to cook more chicken, if you pull over to the side we will bring it out when it's cooked." she say ok, and pulls over.

5 minutes goes by and she looks in her rear view mirror and sees them shutting the lights off and locking up. She runs up and knocks on the window and they ignore her. So they locked up and closed WITHOUT GIVING ME MY FOOD!!!

We call the store the next day to tell them and they deny the whole thing and accuse us of trying to scam them out of food.

I've had similar experience when it came to sour cream and butter for their bake potatoes.

My take is that due to the our horrible economic status, Most Fast Food Restaurants, not just Wendy's, have had to reduce their sauce dispensing to only 1 per customer/order. I really enjoy their foods. In fact i enjoy their burgers over all other places. Really I've never had such a bad experience to make dislike the brand.

Maybe if they gave a reason for this such as the one i stated, everyone would be able to understand their reasons.

I also find that some wendy's employee's dont wear gloves or dont change gloves after dropping some shit on the floor..."your making someone's burger's wit stains and holes on ya gloves? change that shit!":rofl:

what happened to wendy's?. they made the 99 cent burgers smaller, used to have a taco bar in the 90's, and was fast when taking orders

wendy's is on the same level as mcdonald's now...*sighs* dave thomas used to hype people up for wendy's....those where the days

Fuck fast food, the closest thing i've gotten to fast in about 2 years was subway. Wendy's, McDonalds, Burger King, ect. ect. are just trash. Sorry for the people who like these food establishments, I just think it's nasty as fuck. I would sooner find myself drinking water and eating bread instead of going and getting some chicken(?) nuggets at McDonalds or Wendy's.

Good luck to you guys sending out those letters.

It's tough getting decent food, fast food is just far more convenient, cheaper, and in more areas. When I lived on my own I mostly cooked and ate Pho. I don't know any Pho places around here, and it's harder to cook now at home.

I will probably move out within a few months, and then I guess I'll go back to mostly cooking for myself, and having far better nutrition than when I live at home. My mother is pretty much worthless.

You're right, it's hard to find a good meal now a days, even buying food from your local Wal-Mart or H-E-B what have you takes a great amount of time and luck. I mean look at what's going on with tomatoes and shit.

I donno, I don't hate you guys for eating fast food, I'm not gonna lie I use to eat that shit like crazy.

Yeah I know what you mean, and what's up with that, they say it's flame broiled or whatever and when they take out the meat to put on the buns they get it from some tray? WTF is that? I never see an open flame or anything back there.

I try not to eat it much, but you have to eat. Like I said, when living on my own, I pretty much never ate fast food. Now I do eat fast food far more often than I want, usually a few times a week. I classify as fast food a lot of things, pizza from pizzerias, anything from duncan donuts, burgers, nathan's hot dogs. I'm not sure if all of that is usually considered fast food, but none of it is that good for you.

What do you usually eat? I was thinking of trying out diners and delis more often, but again I don't know a good deli around here anymore, or they take longer to get to, plus they are usually more expensive, and are closed far more often. I think cooking for yourself is the best by far, but that isn't always possible.

Cooking just takes practice. If you do it enough, you can make a full meal in about 20 minutes and still have leftovers. Most cooks/chefs have to churn out high quality dishes in minutes to meet restaurant demands.

I think fast food is something that someone else makes and you don't have to pick up after yourself. Even with diners and local mom and pop resturants you still have the unknown factor of what they put in the food and where and how the food is made. But like you said you have to eat and when it comes down to it making the food your self hoping that no one messed with it on its way from being proccessed is the way to go. You're able to decide what goes in and what doesn't, plus you know what you're eating so it's makes it easier if you're on some sort of program on eating healthy or whatever.

To the guy bitching about fast food:

If you go to BK and ask them to "put it through the broiler" they will actually cook it. Burger king burgers from the broiler = the same shit you get at Applebees/Chilis etc... or are you too health conscious for "family dining" too?

Nah I'm not health conscious, I'm just curious to how they make the burgers when they say it's Flame Broiled and I don't see a Flame. PLus I mentioned like twice that I think it's gross and have no problem with other people eating it. Eat what you like and let me eat what I like and I won't say you suck for eating that.

Oh yeah, I'm not a big fan of Chillie's or Applebees. I'll be tight with a sandwich or some fruit or something. But might idea of a "Fine family Diner" would have to be just chillin and cooking something on the ol' BBQ pit. That's just me though, to each their own.

They don't have Rodeo Cheeseburgers at the Burger Kings here anymore... the value menu there is complete shit. I never really go there anymore and I live across the street from one. I can see it from my door, and everytime I look at it I reminded of the failure that is the Burger King value menu. Thankfully, there is a Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, Wendy's, Subway, Quizno's, McDonalds, and other random food places, all within a 5 block radius of where I live so I never have to go to BK.

I have the same experiences with Jack in the Box, everytime I go they fuck my order up somehow or don't give me something. Could be as simple as putting the sauce on my Ult. Cheeseburger when I said plain about a million times.

Or it could be as bad as when I order the chicken fingers (For fear of sauce) And somehow end up with cheese sticks and ketchup, while still paying for the fingers meal.

Sadly sometimes I have no choice but to go there, since Houston is fucking filled with them. Damn Starbucks of the fast food world here...

There is a McDonalds here that always fucked up my breakfast order when I went there for breakfast, but oddly enough, never fucked it up in a bad way. I'd always order like a McMuffin or sausage biscuit and an ice coffee... I get up to the window and they hand me a huge bag and a drink holder full of drinks. The first few times I didn't even notice the huge bag since they got the ice coffee right but after that I started getting tons of food there for free.

I need instructions on how to sign up for your "How to eat 6 chicken nuggets, 1 order of regular fries and a burger with only 1 BBQ sauce" class.

1. put the nuggets on the burger patty (i usually use 4 on a jr bacon)
2. apply half your sauce packet
3. stack some fries on that sandwich
4. and top it off with your other half packet
