Well,

#1: You say 20%? I'll go with that number because I grew up in an area where it was believable, but I don't know if that bears out, statistically. That said, that's a relatively low percentage, for something you describe as sort of an overbearing impulse, or a subconcious impulse.

#2: If true, this still doesn't mean wives cheat on their husbands with "alpha males." In fact, it seems to me that it's more common that a chick will have kids with some guy (high school crush, "alpha male," or whoever), and then when they get older and less retarded, they find themselves attracted to guys who are also less retarded. Which still plays to the theory about women being attracted to the bad boys and then settling down with the nice guys, only this version doesn't involve screwing anyone over, really. Certainly not relatively.

#3: There is, I think, a significant factor that is, some people are just kind of broken and fucked up. Some chick growing up with an absentee or abusive alpha male type and then seeking out one of her own has been happening since the down of time. Same with rape, same with infanticide. The fact that it is supposedly "natural" is of no real meaning or value, and much less than that in modern society. The only good thing about it is that we should understand why/that it does happen.

I think there is some natural inclination to be attracted to the "alpha male" types even in emotionally healthy women, but sucking off your boss (no need to call Dr. Freaud on that one, btw) is obviously so above and beyond that, I would hesitate to say the two were even related.
