If you were low hungry/ low on health , what would you do? You'd go to mcdonalds, cast big mac, maybe apple pie, at the cost of around 10 mp (money points) you'd be good to go.
Who are the people who make things happen? Who build mass produce stuff and exploit 3rd world countries? How are they capable of it? Is it because of high strength or dexterity? No they have INT and lots of MP.
What is a government other than a mana pool? Individual citizens, too weak/poor by themselves send their power to an elected representative who channels and directs their magic. There are only a handful of wizards (IE, bill gates) are powerful enough to summon a stealth bomber on their own and attack a country (Like, nobody has a billion MP), but with mana pooling, high level spells become available to the masses.
More MP= greater effectiveness, who has ever heard of a 10 mp charm spell? You want to impress someone you've got to drop the digits.
Skyscrapers are like wizard towers
Stock exchanges are like wizard councils.
Most newbs think that barbarian is the way to go, strong, independent, lawless. But mid game you are going to realize it was the apprentices and acolytes who struggled in the past, grinding and completing boring fetch quests who are getting all the epic loot and crazy buffs because they have the mp to make things happen.
