Saw this a few months ago, it has it's moments but it mostly feels a little... off in regards to pacing and overall flow.

But it looked fucken brilliant.

He probably means that the pacing/editing job was a bit choppy, not necessarily that the movie itself was too slow.
I myself dont mind slow movies anyways, one of my favorite movies is The Assassination of Jesse James, for crying out loud.

It's one of those films that probably had a lot of stuff left on the editing floor because someone wanted to shorten the run time. It's like... one thing is happening and all of a sudden it just cuts to something else for no reason.

I'll have to watch it again, but there wasn't that many epic fight scenes, it's more of a character piece for obvious reasons but don't expect something like Troy or Omaha Beach in Private Ryan to happen.

afaik, they're making this into a trilogy.

Looks decent, but I really can't stand trailer-narrators at all. They don't work anymore, they belong in the 90s.

Unless the narrator is a character in the film and is showing you whats up, instead of telling you whats up, I don't wanna hear their stupid shit.

Honestly, I think it's worth the watch, but I'd rather movie hop and see it as opposed to paying to see it.

Since you liked Assassination... I guess it's safe to say that Mongol is worth seeing in theater. I enjoyed the film, even though I honestly expected some glorious battle scenes lol.

edit - I should look into the domestic release... maybe they've added some things that were never in the cut I saw.
